Release status and platforms

Status: Confirmed. The official @Hytale account announced the date and set the global launch for 10 am ET. Chapter 1 also carries the Update 7 label. The patch name appears as either “Chapter I” or “Chapter 1”; both refer to the same update.

Instead of launching as a separate game, Chapter 1 expands the existing Early Access release. On Windows, macOS (Apple Silicon), and Linux, Hytale is played through the Hypixel launcher; Steam and consoles are not supported.

Confirmed features in Chapter 1

Handcrafted dungeon and the Gobliterator boss

The dungeon concludes with a showdown against The Gobliterator, a mech piloted by a goblin, and this is Hytale’s first boss battle with multiple phases. Chapter 1 also introduces the game’s first dungeon designed by hand. The Encounter Manager controls the boss’s stages, enemy waves, and arena shifts. Encounters are made as game content, not engine code, allowing the studio and modders alike to build additional ones.

The goblin faction

Goblins are the focus of the chapter and come in several combat roles, plus friendly NPCs. Some are elite enemies with more complex mechanics you have to learn.

  • Goblin Scrapper — a lightly equipped melee combatant that overwhelms foes in a swarm.
  • Goblin Miner — a heavier melee fighter with a leap attack.
  • Goblin Guardian — an armored protector that wields a shield.
  • Goblin Lobber — attacks from a distance by throwing explosives.
  • Goblin Burner — attacks from range with a flamethrower.
  • Goblin Feastmaster — an elite that charges players, calls reinforcements, and damages the arena.
  • Certain goblins are amicable, and one operates a store.

The Goblin Breach world event

After you begin the chapter at the Forgotten Temple, a temporary portal can appear in your world from time to time. Stepping through takes you to an unstable fragment of Orbis controlled by goblins, with a growing Void presence. The area regenerates each time you enter, so visits differ. A rising “Void pressure” eventually forces you back out, so you explore, fight, solve puzzles, and grab loot before time runs out.

Within the Forgotten Temple, you can track and trap predators, battle Void assassins, open treasure chests that trigger enemy waves, and solve puzzles that bar access to certain areas. The temple will also serve as a long-term progression hub, changing across future Early Access chapters.

Goblin gadgets and carryable objects

New goblin-made gadgets include rocket boots, a mechanical hookshot, a scrap glider, a mining drill, and a spyglass. A carry mechanic lets you physically pick up and move certain objects such as chests and explosive barrels, with support planned for larger items that do not fit in your inventory.

Rune ability system

Combat gets an early rune-based ability setup assigned to E and R. Ability runes provide a core skill, while modifier runes alter its behavior. The system is built around elemental reactions, environmental effects, and combos between players. Chapter 1 begins with about six ability runes and a comparable number of modifier runes; the wider “Runeforging” system is coming later.

Ability runes seen in pre-release builds include Chain Hook, Charged Shot, Enrage, Fireball, Imbue Poison, Ground Slam, and Wind Strike. Modifier runes include effects such as Expansion, Fork, and Ricochet.

Combat, UI, and visual changes

  • Sword, dagger, mace, and battleaxe attacks are roughly 15% faster; crossbow damage is reduced.
  • Taking damage no longer interrupts eating or drinking, and movement penalties while consuming are reduced.
  • Non-elite enemies can flinch when struck, briefly interrupting their attacks.
  • Real transparency support for stained glass, window blocks, and transparent parts of entities.
  • A chapter progression screen that tracks objectives and rewards cosmetics, including goblin-themed sets.
  • New cosmetics and player model improvements, such as more hand and eyelash options.

A collection of 14 short party minigames was shown alongside Chapter 1, but it follows its own timeline and is not guaranteed to arrive on October 12.

Playing Chapter 1 content early

Parts of Chapter 1 are arriving in the Update 7 pre-release channel before launch. To enable access, open the Hytale launcher, visit Settings, and turn on Pre-Release. Treat that build as unfinished, and try it on a duplicate of your world rather than one you value.

The pre-release build leaves out both the dungeon and the Gobliterator, so players cannot practice the fight before launch day. Server owners should know this content is exclusive to the pre-release channel; until the update goes live, most public servers remain on stable version 0.6.8.

The $15,000 Gobliterator challenge

Game Director Simon Collins-Laflamme has offered $15,000 to the first streamer to beat the Gobliterator while meeting a strict set of requirements. He says the complete rules will be published before launch, so some details could change.

  • Hard mode, in a Hardcore world, solo.
  • No armor, no potions, no glitches.
  • Iron weapons are the only weapons permitted in Exploration Mode.
  • Complete the entire run legitimately, without using Creative Mode to enter the dungeon.
  • Streamed or recorded so the run can be verified.

How to confirm the update is live

You will know Chapter 1 has launched when the stable client updates past 0.6.8 to the Chapter 1 build (version 0.7.0) and the chapter progression screen becomes available in game. Start at the Forgotten Temple to trigger the chapter’s opening and unlock Goblin Breach events.

Before updating, back up your existing world and check your mods and server plugins for compatibility, since Chapter 1 changes combat, AI, and world generation. New underground regions power the dungeon and Breaches, so you may need to travel to a fresh, unexplored area for the content to appear rather than starting a new world.
