Norgan story quests send you to commission scholar Polyeidus, whose location changes as the story progresses. He starts at his tent in the Norgandian Settlement, moves to the Sealed Study, and later appears at Castletown Campground. Check which location matches your current objective before setting out. This covers the story stages named below; it is not a complete list of each time he moves.

Quick answer: Early riddle and sage quests find him at the settlement tent; the Sealed History and early Soul Searching steps find him in the Sealed Study; the later Soul Searching and Into Rancor steps find him at Castletown Campground.

Three places Polyeidus stands in over the Norgan story

His position follows the story in order. Read the quest name above the objective line before you travel.

LocationQuests and objectives
Norgandian Settlement, his tentSage’s Wisdom riddle quests; Seeking the Sage (“Consult with Polyeidus.”)
Sealed StudySealed History (“Ask Polyeidus about the results of his research.”); early Soul Searching; Flight in the Night
Castletown CampgroundLater Soul Searching (“Inform Polyeidus about Niflhel.”, “Inform Polyeidus of what you witnessed with Eir.”); Into Rancor (“Consult with Polyeidus.”)

The prompt on him is the same each time: Hail (Hold to Talk). Hold the talk input rather than tapping it, since a tap only hails him.

Norgandian Settlement tent (riddles and Seeking the Sage)

Once Rumbles in the North is complete, the commission establishes itself in the Norgandian Settlement, with Polyeidus and Wash among its members. Look for him by a pointed tent bearing a gold crest, set against a ruined stone wall on the settlement’s outskirts. Crates and barrels are nearby, and a commission soldier keeps watch. During the day, a brazier is alight outside the tent. The map’s Norgan Portcrystal: Norgandian Settlement fast-travel point places you beside the settlement’s large bonfire.

During a Sage’s Wisdom riddle quest, Polyeidus helps you make sense of the sage’s riddles. In Seeking the Sage, the objective “Consult with Polyeidus.” becomes available as soon as the sphinx has shared her wisdom; speak with him at this tent to complete it. The conversation displays “Completed: Seeking the Sage” and then immediately starts the next main quest, Sealed History, with the objective “Join the commission soldiers.”

Sealed Study (Sealed History and early Soul Searching)

Next, Polyeidus stands in the Sealed Study, an underground stone chamber with three tall carved slabs standing side by side at the far end, lit by a hole in the ceiling that lets snow fall in. He stands in front of those slabs. In Sealed History, walking into the chamber turns the objective to “Wait for Polyeidus to conduct his research.” and a day later it becomes “Ask Polyeidus about the results of his research.”

The Sealed Study is where the first half of Soul Searching plays out too. Its opening objective, “Consult with someone who knows Norgan’s history.”, shows No Destination in the quest list, so nothing marks him on the map, but the person it means is Polyeidus at the slabs. Talking to him there gives the banner “You spoke with Polyeidus about his findings.” hands you the Transcription Kit, and sets the next objective, “Find the passage beneath the Norgan Snowfield.” You return to the same spot for “Deliver the transcriptions to Polyeidus.”, which leads to “Wait for Polyeidus to decipher the slabs.” and then “Find out what Polyeidus learned from the slabs.” He has not moved for any of those three steps.

Getting back into the Sealed Study

Travel to Norgan Portcrystal: Sealed Study. The crystal is outside, at a higher elevation than the study. Enter the doorway in the neighboring ruined stone wall, descend the stairs, and follow the passage until you reach the chamber with the slabs.

The area displayed outdoors by the portcrystal is Putrid Copse; it is labeled “Sealed Study” only after you go inside. The different outdoor name does not mean you are in the wrong location.

Flight in the Night, a side quest, directs you to this chamber as well. Its objective, “Escort Ilda to Polyeidus’s quarters.”, leads to the Sealed Study via the doorway beside the portcrystal.

Castletown Campground (later Soul Searching and Into Rancor)

During Soul Searching’s later stages, Polyeidus relocates from the Sealed Study to Castletown Campground. Use fast travel to Norgan Portcrystal: Castletown Campground; the arrival point is indoors, beside a large iron portcullis. His room changes as you progress, so use the objective to determine where to find him.

The camp room

For the objective “Inform Polyeidus about Niflhel.”, leave the portcullis and take the short stone passage into the room lit by fire. Inside are a tent bearing the settlement tent’s gold crest and a cooking pot suspended above a campfire. Polyeidus is there with a commission soldier. Speaking with him advances the objective to “Seek Rovall’s will.”

The chamber by Mordria Fault

For “Inform Polyeidus of what you witnessed with Eir.”, he is no longer in the camp room. Go past the campfire and tent and along the stone corridor lined with carved figures holding swords. He waits in the chamber at the end, against a wall carved with a large stone sword. You know it is the right room because an open archway beside it leads outdoors, and the first steps outside bring up the area name Mordria Fault.

The room off the camp (Into Rancor)

Into Rancor also gives the objective “Consult with Polyeidus.” The quest list identifies him as the scholar investigating Norgan. From the campfire, go through the stone entrance beneath the raised wooden gate. In the room beyond, he is beside a wooden lattice barricade, with a lit torch on the wall. Speaking to him displays the banner “You consulted with Polyeidus.”

Two mix-ups to avoid

  • “Consult with Polyeidus.” can point to the wrong place. Two quests use this objective, so check the active quest name: Seeking the Sage sends you to the settlement tent, whereas Into Rancor takes you to Castletown Campground. Look at the quest title above the objective.
  • You travel to the Sealed Study and the screen says Putrid Copse. That is the outdoor area around the portcrystal. The study itself is down the stairs behind the doorway next to it.
