Carbon Crates are Rare crates in Fisch that can be pulled from any body of water, which makes them frustrating to chase if you leave it to luck. The fast route skips random casting entirely and leans on one rod and one bait that are built to attract crates.
Quick answer: Equip the Magnet Rod with Magnet Bait, sail out until the zone label at the top of the screen reads “Ocean,” then cast repeatedly to reel in Carbon Crates.
Best gear for farming Carbon Crates
Carbon Crates have no season, time, or weather preference, so the only thing you control is how often a crate shows up on your hook. The Magnet Rod is the deciding factor here. It almost guarantees a crate on every cast, with a roughly 95% chance to hook a crate instead of a fish, and the type of crate depends on where you are fishing.
Stack Magnet Bait on top of it. Magnet is the preferred bait for Carbon Crates and raises your Preferred Luck by 200, which pushes crates, geodes, and similar items to the front of your catches. Running Magnet Bait on the Magnet Rod is the strongest pairing for crate farming.

Carbon Crates themselves are an easy catch. They sit at a Resilience of 50 and drift slowly across the fishing bar, so the reel-in minigame rarely gives you trouble once you have hooked one.

Carbon Crates can show up in any area, but the deep Ocean is the best place to farm them. Take your boat away from island docks such as Moosewood, continuing until the location marker at the screen’s top reads Ocean. This confirms you’ve reached deep water and can cast.

The same crate also shows up around deep-water locations such as the surrounding oceans of Ancient Isle, Atlantis, and Snowcap Island, and in special spawns like a Strange Whirlpool. If you see the prompt “A strange whirlpool has opened,” that whirlpool is a dense spot to fish for crates.
Open-ocean events can spawn hostile creatures. An alert such as “A Livyatan was sighted circling Ancient Isle” means a large creature is nearby, so keep your boat clear of it while you fish.
How to get the Magnet Rod on Terrapin Island
The Magnet Rod is sold by the merchant on Terrapin Island for 15,000 coins. You only need to buy it once, after which you can equip it any time you want to farm crates.

Other ways to get a Carbon Crate
If you would rather not farm the Ocean, two other routes add Carbon Crates to your inventory.
- Buy one from the Travelling Merchant for 490 coins when it is in stock. The Travelling Merchant moves around and carries only three random items at a time, so check its current location.
- Earn them from the Angler Quest. Turning in the requested fish can reward Carbon Crates directly, adding a couple to your count per completion.
How to confirm the catch and what’s inside
When you hook a Carbon Crate, an exclamation icon pops above your character and a bell sound plays, the same cue used for all Rare catches. Your character will also call out a line such as “A Carbon Crate!” or “Who left this here?” After the reel-in, an on-screen notice confirms the catch, for example “You just caught a Carbon Crate at 16kg!”
To open one, go to your Sell Inventory, equip the crate, and activate it. Opening gives an equal chance of either 130 to 400 coins or a random fish. The possible fish include Longtail Bass and Squid, which appear twice as often as the rest, alongside Cod, White Bass, Yellowfin Tuna, Amberjack, Barracuda, Eel, Lobster, Pike, Ribbon Eel, Nurse Shark, Abyssacuda, Alligator Gar, Arapaima, Bluefin Tuna, Coelacanth, Halibut, Mahi Mahi, and Sturgeon.
A Carbon Crate sells for about 338 coins at its base weight, but opening it is usually the better return since rarer fish and bait can land in your lap. With the Magnet Rod and Magnet Bait running in the Ocean, you will build a stack of them quickly enough to open in bulk.
