In Dragon’s Dogma 2: Dark Arisen, the set comprises thirty-five armour pieces: thirteen head pieces, ten body pieces and twelve leg pieces. The pieces belong to Lost Rites proving grounds in Vermund and Battahl.
Quick answer: Best means the highest Defense in each slot, before enhancement. Across every vocation that can wear them, Crown of the Mad Sovran leads head armour, Triumpher’s Guerdon leads body and Reaper’s Tread leads legs.
What the Lost Rites armour is
These pieces are tied to the proving grounds, the sealed trials set behind distinctive doors. The game introduces them with a short panel titled The Lost Rites, and the armour inside shares the single line that identifies it on any item screen.

Archer, Thief and Magick Archer top out at Lex Talionis, while Mage, Sorcerer and Trickster are best served by Circumventor’s Burthen, which also carries the highest Magick Defense of any Lost Rites body piece.

Wyrmscale Cuirass: “Armor of an Arisen who felled the dragon. He then sought power in the world’s depths—never to return. Imbued with protective power by the Lost Rites.”

Reaper’s Tread leads leg Defense for Fighter, Warrior and Mystic Spearhand; no place is named for it. Greaves of the Mad Sovran is the strongest leg piece tied to a named chest, found in Molten Gauntlet. Insidiator’s Boots (Defense 250) can be worn by all nine vocations; no place is named for it. For Mage, Sorcerer and Trickster, Pyrolytic Cloth edges ahead on the Magick Defense tie-break and carries the highest Magick Defense of any Lost Rites leg piece.

Where the Lost Rites pieces are found
Most of the 35 pieces are tucked inside chests placed within a named proving ground, which is why the access tables above point to a specific ground for so many of them.

These chambers are dim, lit by torch or lantern as you make your way through urns, barrels and rows of spear-bearing statues.
Eight pieces come from an end coffer, end chest or hoard instead: in Embersand Mine, Interminable Corridor, Wyrmsblood Arena and Mired Conduit (the hoard that opens after the Evil Eye first retreats). For the remaining pieces no place is known, and the tables say No place named. Every piece with its proving ground is also listed in every Lost Rites armour piece and Ephemeral Key weapon.

Best Lost Rites armour by vocation
Because several pieces are class-locked, the strongest piece you can actually equip depends on your vocation. These are the highest-Defense picks each group can wear.
| Vocations | Head | Body | Legs |
|---|---|---|---|
| Fighter, Warrior, Mystic Spearhand | Crown of the Mad Sovran | Triumpher’s Guerdon | Reaper’s Tread |
| Archer, Thief, Magick Archer | Crown of the Mad Sovran | Lex Talionis | Insidiator’s Boots |
| Mage, Sorcerer, Trickster | Crown of the Mad Sovran | Circumventor’s Burthen | Pyrolytic Cloth |
If you prefer targets you can reach rather than chasing the No place named entries, the three Mad Sovran pieces all have a named chest: Crown in Sunken Spire, Plate in Mired Conduit and Greaves in Molten Gauntlet.
Check the Who can wear it column before you commit to a piece, since the top of a slot may be out of reach for your vocation. For Hal’s crafted armour ranked the same way, see the best Hal’s Workshop armour; for warmth, the best cloaks and armour for Norgan’s cold.
