Castlevania: Belmont’s Curse – How to Get The Whisperer Arcana With the Ferryman’s Obol

The Whisperer is an Arcana card that hands Rose the Freezing Path spell, and you earn it by returning a stolen coin to the Ferryman.

Quick answer: Beat Mammon, grab the Ferryman’s Obol from the gold hoard in Mammon’s Lair, then carry it to the Ferryman at Ferryman’s Wharf and hand it over to receive The Whisperer.

Grab the Ferryman’s Obol in Mammon’s Lair

In the Catacombs of Paris, Mammon’s Lair lies beyond the Gate of Flesh; reach that gate from the Circle of Greed. Approaching it brings up an INTERACT [R1] prompt.

Drop into the Lair, a chamber piled high with gold coins. A short scene plays at the pile, and the item box then reads “FERRYMAN’S OBOL / A coin with a carved image. Ideal for paying the Ferryman for passage.” Press Cross to continue.

Return the coin at Ferryman’s Wharf

The nearest Ferryman’s Wharf is a short walk back from the Lair. It is the misty green pier where the Ferryman waits in his boat.

Leave through the Circle of Greed and route back through the Antechamber of Sin, the Realm of Old Night, and the Collapsed Path. The doorway at the end of the Collapsed Path opens onto the wharf.

Press R1 to speak with the Ferryman. Rose explains that the coins have been found, and he accepts the obol.

A golden orb follows once the coin changes hands. Interact with it to receive the card.

The Whisperer card and Freezing Path

The orb gives you The Whisperer, an Arcana card carrying the spell Freezing Path at 35 MP. Its text reads: “Makes Rose intangible for 3 seconds, increasing her movement speed and freezing enemies she passes through them while this spell is active.” The card screen shows HOLD TO EQUIP and CONTINUE prompts.

To put it into rotation, open the EQUIPMENT menu and go to the ARCANAS tab, then equip The Whisperer. Once the card is in your collection and set there, the reward is confirmed.

The Hospital clue about The Whisperer

In the Hospital, in the Paris Streets, a purple ghost on an upper shelf holds the title “STOLEN OBOLES”. Its words explain that a demon stole its obol, which is why the Ferryman could not take it. Reading it adds “NEW CLUE ABOUT THE WHISPERER” to the Tarot menu.

The Ferryman himself also mentions that someone stole the coins the dead pay him, so talk to him when you first arrive at the wharf.
