Where Winds Meet: Return, O Soul Encounter Walkthrough and Rewards

Return, O Soul is an Encounter in Where Winds Meet set in Greenshade Village, high on the Eastern Peak of Qingzhou. It begins with a petty market argument and turns into an overnight ritual to call a villager’s lost soul back to her body. The whole thing runs on one spot and two time jumps, so it is quick once you know the order.

Quick answer: Break up the basket dispute in Greenshade Village, agree to help Granny Guo, advance time to the Zi Hour, then perform the soul-calling at four spots and wait for the black cat before checking on Wang Xiulian the next day.

Where to start Return, O Soul in Greenshade Village

Head to Greenshade Village in the Qingzhou Eastern Peak region. The trigger sits in the village marketplace, where basket vendor Li Cuilan is arguing with a customer named Wang Xiulian over her prices. Walking up and stepping into the quarrel starts the Encounter.

When you intervene, you get the option to speak up for either Li Cuilan or Wang Xiulian. Either way the dispute ends and the Encounter icon for Return, O Soul appears on the Greenshade Village map.

Return, O Soul walkthrough

Follow the objective marker to Wang Xiulian’s residence. The prompt reads “Listen in on the familiar-looking patient.” She has collapsed and is said to have lost her soul.

Inside the house, listen to Lu Wenxin, Zou Shenggui, and Granny Guo (Guo Daoqun) discuss her condition. Agree to help carry out the soul-calling ritual when prompted.

Open the main menu and select the Time wheel. Advance the clock forward to the Zi Hour of the next day, the late-night window when the ritual can take place.

Go down to the riverbank at night and speak with Granny Guo (Guo Daoqun), then pick up the glowing soul-calling lantern resting on the wooden pier beside her.

While carrying the lantern you are placed under a restriction that blocks Lightness, Archery, Climbing, hostile actions, and certain skills. Just walk with Granny Guo between houses.

Accompany Granny Guo to Sun Mangzi’s home, the first house. At the window, perform Soul-Calling through the wall. Sun responds angrily; afterward, speak with Granny Guo. She explains his hostility and tells how Wang Xiulian’s daughter disappeared by the tree at the village entrance.

Head to Li Cuilan’s residence, the second home. Hear her speaking in her sleep from outside the window, then summon the soul.

Continue to the third household, the home of the scholar Chu Xiaoshan. Call at the window, then speak with Chu Xiaoshan outside, who brings up Wang Xiulian’s stray black cat.

Keep searching the village down the path until you reach a large tree with a boy named Little Mao perched in the branches. Talk to him and convince him to call for Auntie Wang’s soul.

The lantern flame goes out at this point. Wait for the stray black cat to approach. When it meows, the flame reignites and Wang Xiulian’s soul is finally called back.

Open the Time wheel again and advance the clock past the night into the daytime of the next day.

Go back to Wang Xiulian’s home and see how she is. She is awake, stroking the black cat, and the Encounter ends.

How to confirm the Encounter is finished

You will know it worked when you enter Wang Xiulian’s home in the daytime and find her recovered, awake, and petting the black cat. The completion screen for Return, O Soul then appears and the Echo Jade, Qingzhou Exploration, Coin, and Stored EXP are added to your totals. If she is still bedridden, you have not advanced time far enough into the next day, so open the Time wheel again before returning.
