Forge Weaponry or Armor is the Blacksmith’s opening request, and it is one of the quickest quests to wrap up once Oswald Anders is living at your base. The whole thing comes down to making a single piece of gear, so the real work is gathering the materials beforehand.
Quick answer: Craft any one weapon or armor piece at the Blacksmith Oswald Anders — a Scrappy Sword, a Spiked Club, or any Fur set item. Clearing the Elixir Well also completes it.
Before you start: recruit Oswald Anders
This quest only appears once the Blacksmith is at your Flame Altar. You get him by finishing Find The Sleeping Survivor, which wakes Oswald Anders and brings him home. After that, talk to him and pick the crafting dialogue option to receive the quest.

Oswald will nudge you along until you deliver. His lines run from the impatient — “Did you forget about yer weaponry? I’m waiting. You need to be able to fight back” — to the blunt “Better to be the hammer than the anvil.” Completing the quest shuts him up and opens the rest of his questline.

Add to Google Preferences →Gather Metal Scraps and fur materials at Rookmore
The quest marker points to Rookmore, a ruined settlement southwest across from Braelyn Bridge. It is the marked spot for collecting Metal Scraps, which you need for the weapons. The Scavengers roaming the ruins drop them, along with the cloth and fur you will want for armor.

Metal Scraps are the item you are most likely to be short on. If a recipe will not light up, go kill a few more Scavengers before heading back.
Craft a weapon or armor piece at the Blacksmith
You only need to make one thing. It can be a weapon or any armor piece, so pick whatever your materials already cover.
Walk up to Oswald Anders and choose Craft to open the Blacksmith menu.
Craft any single item. The Fur set pieces — Fur Chest, Fur Trousers, Fur Hood, Fur Boots, and Fur Gloves — are the natural choice since they use materials you already have, and starting the armor set here means you are not wasting the trip.

If you would rather arm yourself, the Spiked Club is the cheaper weapon of the two and costs fewer materials than the Scrappy Sword for a similar feel.
Fur armor set and starter weapon stats
Every Fur piece sits at item level 4 and is Common rarity, crafted at the Blacksmith under a roof. Here is what each slot gives you in perks so you can decide which pieces to prioritize.
| Piece | Slot | Perks |
|---|---|---|
| Chest | Health 20, Veteran 1, Blood Rage 1 | |
| Legs | Health 20, Thrust 1, Steadfast 1 | |
| Head | Brute 1, Finesse 1, Health Regeneration 3 | |
| Hands | Health 20, Slasher 1, Heavy Handed 1 | |
| Feet | Warrior’s Path 1, Health Regeneration 3 |
Both starter weapons are item level 5, Common rarity, and built for the Warrior class. They share the same attack speed, so the split is just cutting versus blunt damage.
| Weapon | Type | Damage | Attack speed |
|---|---|---|---|
| One-Handed Sword | Cutting | 0.6 s | |
| One-Handed Club | Blunt | 0.6 s |
Confirm the quest is complete
The moment your crafted item lands in your inventory, you will see the on-screen banner “Quest Completed! Forge Weaponry or Armor” and pick up the quest XP. There is nothing else to hand in — crafting the piece is the trigger.

From here, equip your new gear through the Character screen and move on to Clear The Elixir Well, Oswald’s next ask. And if you ever skip this quest entirely, beating the Elixir Well closes it out on its own.
