Enshrouded: How to Solve the Ancient Vault

The sealed door inside the Ancient Vault – Farmer stays locked until you activate three glowing switches scattered across the building’s traps. Each one sits behind a different hazard, from lava platforms to electric orbs and floor spikes. Clear all three and the central door swings open, letting you reach Emily Fray’s pod.

Quick answer: Press all three wall switches (one past the electric orbs, one across the grapple gap, one past the spike floor), then glide back to the now-open central door and interact with the pod to awaken Emily Fray.

Before you enter the vault

The Ancient Vault – Farmer sits at the northwestern edge of the Springlands, north of the Springlands Ancient Spire. Activating that spire marks the location on your map, and gliding down from the tower is the fastest way to reach it. The quest attached to it is “Growing Stronger Together,” with the objective “Find The Farmer.”

Two tools make the interior far easier. You need the Grappling Hook for a double-swing section, and a Glider for the final drop back to the door. Top off your stamina before the grapple part, since each swing drains a large chunk of the bar.

Carry Water or another stamina-restoring item. The two consecutive grapple jumps are the most failure-prone part of the run, and a full stamina bar removes most of the risk.

First switch: past the lava and electric orbs

Enter the main entrance and run to the intersection in the hall. Take the left path, dropping down toward the lower area that overlooks a pool of lava.

Jump across the stone platforms over the lava, then climb the wire mesh on the far wall. Shimmy across and move into the corridor on the right.

Time your dash through the rolling electric orbs. For the first set the orbs fire together, so wait for a gap and run straight through. The next set fires with a slight delay, so pause between shots and move one orb at a time. Reach the dead-end wall and press the first switch with E.

Second switch: across the double grapple gap

Return to the lava chamber and scale the wire mesh to reach the walkway halfway up. Enter the room beside it on the right and locate the tall climbing surface at the far end.

Climb to the upper room with the large flaming sphere, which overlooks the central door chamber. Let your stamina refill fully here before the next move.

Look up at the ceiling to spot two grapple anchors over the opening. Press the grapple button to swing from the first, then press it again to catch the second and reach the far side. Land on the ledge and press the second switch with E. If you fall, you respawn in the previous room and can try again.

Third switch: over the spike floor on the roof

From the second switch, head out through the exit near the rubble. Turn right to find a short staircase leading to a long wire mesh. Climb it to reach the open roof of the vault.

Step out onto the balcony and follow it around to the right, staying on the outer walkway until you reach an iron door. Open it to expose the spike trap room.

Watch the floor spikes rise and fall a few times to learn the pattern, since a hit here can kill you. Run and jump between the safe gaps to reach the far wall, then press the third switch with E.

Open the door and awaken Emily Fray

Activating all three switches unlocks the central door. Step onto the balcony overlooking the central cavern, then press Space to glide over the lava gap toward the lights above the unlocked door. If some lights appear dark, adjust your camera slightly to reveal the full glowing set and confirm the door is open.

Enter the inner chamber, walk up to the glowing pod, and interact with E to awaken the survivor. A “SOUL DISCOVERED! EMILY FRAY” message confirms it worked, and the quest updates to “Summon The Farmer.” You also unlock the recipe “Berry Bush Seedling (+8 more) at Seedbed.”

Once awakened, Emily can be placed at your base with the Summoning Staff. She adds farming tools such as Farm Soil and Seedbeds, letting you grow crops and expand your cooking and food options back home.
