The Ancient Spires is the Blacksmith quest that teaches you how fast travel works in Enshrouded. Oswald Anders points you toward the tall tower north of your first base, and reaching its summit lights the Flame, opens a travel point, and peels back the fog over the surrounding Springlands. The tower holds no enemies, only traps, locked doors, and hidden chests.
Quick answer: Craft and equip a Grappling Hook, cross Braelyn Bridge to the north, climb the Springlands Ancient Spire through its button, target, spike, and lava floors, then commune with the Flame at the top to complete the quest and unlock fast travel.
What you need before starting
Oswald Anders the Blacksmith gives you the quest at your home base once he is settled there. The Ancient Spires becomes available after you finish Clear The Elixir Well, and the Blacksmith notes that scaling the spire will reveal more of the Springlands.

Before you leave, build and equip a Grappling Hook. It is crafted at a Workbench and unlocks as you pick up Animal Fur, Shroud Spores, Shroud Wood, and String. The recipe costs 4 Metal Scraps, 7 String, and 10 Shroud Spores. You receive the recipe from the separate Grappling Hook quest, recommended around level 3.
You can slip past the broken bridge through the Shroud without a hook, but the spire’s interior has grapple gaps you cannot cross otherwise, so craft it first.

The spire sits north of your base, across Braelyn Bridge. Head to the broken wooden bridge near the ravine and use the provided grapple point under the crane structure to swing across the gap. A popup warns that the road is blocked and a Grappling Hook is required.
Once you reach the opposite side, head north along the dusty path. A barricade and several enemies block the route; grapple over it, then defeat them. Beyond the gate, you can pick up a note and chest if you choose. Continue north, climbing the slope to the tower’s base.

At the stairway’s summit are a respawn orb and a luminous teleport pad. Use the pad to enter the dungeon. Your objective changes to Find A Way To Enter The Ancient Spire, before you proceed to the puzzle floors within.
Interior puzzle floors
Each floor works the same way. Blue glyphs above a door tell you how many switches you must press to open it, and some switches sit out of reach and need a ranged hit. Break the pots as you go, since they hold materials and consumables.

Completing the quest at the summit
Walk up to the central flaming altar on the roof and select Commune with the Flame. This finishes the final objective, Unlock The Ancient Spire’s Knowledge.
You know it worked when the screen shows QUEST COMPLETED! The Ancient Spires, the surrounding Springlands fog clears to reveal new map locations, and you receive the quest reward of 150 XP. Communing also turns the spire into a permanent fast travel point you can jump to from the map whenever you are not Enshrouded, and gliding from the spire’s balcony carries you a long way across the biome.
Lighting the Flame here also feeds into later goals. The spire reveals Ancient Obelisks in the region, which in turn point you to Shroud Roots and Flame Shrines once you interact with them.
Spire loot and gear reference
The chests inside the Springlands spire hold gear worth grabbing on the way up. Here are the confirmed figures for the main items, plus the Grappling Hook you need to get there.
| Item | Type | Rarity | Key stats |
|---|---|---|---|
| Off-hand shield (Mage) | Uncommon | Item level 5, Parry Power 1, Mana Regeneration 2, Poison Resistance 5% | |
| Wand (Mage, Ice) | Common | Overcharge 12%, Attack Speed 0.6s, Mana Regeneration 4 | |
| Consumable | Common | Restores 200 Health | |
| Ammunition (Ranger) | Common | Item level 10, Cutting + Piercing, stacks to 500 | |
| Tool | Uncommon | Stamina Cost 40, crafted at the Workbench |
The Spectral Ward carries the Unity, Snake Eater, Wand Mastery, Eternal Spark, and Arcane Deflection perks, and lets you block and parry physical attacks even as a Mage. The Apprentice Wand fires ice projectiles and comes with Renewal and Mana Leech. Scrap Arrows are the reinforced upgrade over Wooden Arrows, and they are the ammunition you use to trigger the spire’s out-of-reach target switches.
If you want to cut stamina use for later spires, the Carpenter crafts the Improved Grappling Hook, which drops the cost to 30 Stamina and works at longer range. An Underwater Grappling Hook is also available from the Carpenter for submerged traversal. Neither is required to finish the Springlands run.
