Ember Carapace is a crafting material you pull from the fire scorpions that roam Cinder’s Cradle, the volcanic region added at the top of the map in Enshrouded 1.0. It feeds a long list of level 45 armor pieces and a few spell charges, so once you reach the lava wastes you will want a steady pile of it.

Quick answer: Travel to the volcanic biome northeast of the Ancient Gate and kill the flame scorpions there. Each Flaming Scorpion drops 2 to 3 Ember Carapace on every kill.

Getting to the Cinder’s Cradle scorpions

The route runs north and northeast across the water zone and up past the Ancient Gate into the lava-covered terrain. The scorpions spawn on the open rocky ground, and a Mine and a Cave Passage sit nearby as landmarks.

Open the world map and set a course heading north past the water area near Starfish Shores. Keep going up and to the northeast, over the Ancient Gate, until the terrain turns to dark volcanic rock.

Enter the volcanic biome and search the rocky ground around the Mine and Cave Passage. The flame scorpions glow orange and attack with heat, applying the Ablaze status, so keep moving and watch your health during the fight.

Defeat the scorpions and loot their remains to collect the Ember Carapace they drop. A single clear of the area nets several pieces at once.

Frost Resistance on your gear helps here. Several level 45 armor pieces built from this very material carry Frost Resistance, so farming it also sets you up to craft kit for the region.

Which enemies drop Ember Carapace

Two scorpion types in the Wildlife family carry Ember Carapace. Both drop the same loot set, so if you are already in the south you do not have to reach Cinder’s Cradle to start collecting.

A carapace creature in Cinder’s Cradle drops these heat-tempered scales. Blades cannot cut into their surface, and flames cannot catch on it. Each stack holds up to 250, so even a full farming run uses very little of one slot.

What Ember Carapace is used to craft

Most of what you make with it sits at item level 45 across the three classes, plus a handful of ice and crowd-control spell charges. The gloves, boots, pants, helmets and hats below are crafted under a roof at the matching class survivor once your Flame is upgraded.

  • Ranger: Ashwind Strider Gloves, Ashwind Strider Pants, Sky Specter Helmet, Sky Specter Boots, Vorgoth’s Soulbound Gloves
  • Warrior: Crestflame Gloves, Crestflame Pants, Emberguard Gloves, Emberguard Pants
  • Mage: Flame Arcanist Gloves, Flame Arcanist Boots, Flame Arcanist Hat
  • Lifelock Helmet, Lifelock Boots and Lifelock Pants
  • Spells and ammo: Ice Bolt IV, Eternal Ice Bolt IV and Eternal Entangle

Since craftable armor sets now unlock automatically each time you upgrade the Flame, missing a recipe no longer locks you out of a tier. Gathering a healthy stock of Ember Carapace means you can roll out the level 45 pieces for whichever class you play the moment you reach that Flame level.
