Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 DMZ Operation Critical Extraction Story Mission Walkthrough

Operation Critical Extraction is a DMZ story mission in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 set at Mirae General Hospital in Hajin. It is an escort job. You locate a high-value target named General Kang, wheel him through a hospital full of North Korean soldiers, and get him onto a helicopter waiting on the roof. There is no boss. The whole mission is a running fight around a hospital bed.

Quick answer: Secure Kang in his upper-floor ward bed, push the bed down to the lobby, hold the elevators until they open, ride up to the roof, then push the bed into the exfil chopper and secure him.

Operation Critical Extraction briefing and loadout

From the FOB, use SELECT A MISSION and select OPERATION CRITICAL EXTRACTION. The mission map places it at MIRAE GENERAL HOSPITAL. Its briefing card assigns [THREAT ASSESSMENT: MEDIUM] and describes the target as a recovering HVT under enemy guard.

The card lists the following:

Recommended equipment: 2-Plate Armor Vest, Medkit
Main objectives: Locate the HVT; Eliminate any Resistance; Extract the HVT
Rewards row: the Mirae Electrical Room Key (its icon label is cut off as “MIRAE ELEC…”), a second item icon labelled “DEFIBRILLA…”, plus a 25000 cash icon

If you deploy without the recommended gear, a RECOMMENDED ITEMS warning names SMALL BACKPACK and MEDKIT and asks “Do you still want to deploy?” Take that prompt seriously, as with any DMZ deployment. The bed push is a long, sustained firefight.

Pack a medkit and spare armor plates. You will be stopping repeatedly to fight off waves while staying near the bed.

Objective order for Operation Critical Extraction

The HUD tracks progress under “MISSION: OPERATION CRITICAL EXTRACTION” and moves through six objectives in this order.

Where to find General Kang at Mirae General Hospital

Your infil point is in the South Korean Border Zone, with the objective marker placing the hospital roughly 770 m away. The roughly 30-minute RADIATION COUNTDOWN means you should keep moving. Guards patrol the road and hospital grounds, both marked THREAT: LOW.

Walk or drive to Mirae General Hospital, clearing the patrols on the approach. The first objective ticks over once you reach the building.

Enter through the ground floor and fight through the soldiers in the corridors. Command directs you toward the ICU, where Kang is on a stretcher.

Head to the upper patient wards, identified by PATIENT ROOM and NURSE STATION signs. Advance through the corridor, clearing it as you go.

Find the patient room with the mission star marker above it. Kang is asleep in the hospital bed. Interact with him to secure him. Your operator fits a neck brace, and the objective switches to Move Gen. Kang to Safety.

How to move General Kang through the hospital

Kang never leaves the bed. You push the bed, you do not carry him. Stand behind the bed rail and push. When soldiers appear, let go, fight, then grab the rail again. The route goes down before it goes up, using two separate elevator banks.

Ward hallway to the lobby

Follow the objective marker as you roll the bed through the ward hallway. Soldiers emerge from side doors and approach along the corridor, so be ready to pause repeatedly.

Roll the bed into the elevator at the end of the hallway. Use the panel prompt “USE ELEVATOR – DESCEND” to take it down to the ground floor lobby.

Roll the bed through the lobby, passing the EXIT signs on your way toward the cafeteria seating. Hostiles enter from reception and burst through the glass front doors; an armored truck is parked outside.

Keep pushing through the cafeteria to the next elevator bank, clearing soldiers as they come.

Holding the lobby elevators

When the bed reaches the elevators, call the lift. The Wait for the Elevators to Open objective progresses from 0 to 100% over about a minute, and you must defend during that time. Enemies advance through the cafeteria seating, while others fire from the atrium’s balcony railing above. Stay near the bed, take cover behind pillars, and collect dropped ammo and armor plates between waves.

Up to the roof

After the doors open, the objective updates to Move Gen. Kang to the Roof. Push the bed into the lift and activate the floor panel to go up. At the upper floor, wheel the bed out, follow the corridor, and reach the roof exit.

Loading Kang into the exfil chopper

An EXFIL HELICOPTER INBOUND banner appears when you reach the roof. Regular soldiers are positioned by the roof structures, the stairs, and the helipad. No boss or enemy helicopter appears. Eliminate the troops, using the bed for partial cover when needed.

After the chopper settles on the helipad and lowers its rear ramp, wheel the bed aboard and into the cabin. Then interact with Kang to secure him, completing Secure Gen. Kang in the Exfil Chopper.

You don’t need to call a separate exfil. The rooftop chopper is your ride out. EXFIL DEPARTING counts down, the helicopter lifts off with you aboard, and the screen shows MISSION COMPLETE / STORY MISSION followed by EXTRACTION SUCCESSFUL. You keep everything you’re carrying.

Operation Critical Extraction rewards

A CHALLENGE COMPLETED banner reading “COMPLETE 1 STORY MISSIONS.” pops up after takeoff. The EXTRACTION SUMMARY then lists a “1 Story Mission Payout” line worth 5,000 cash, which is banked. You also earn XP and DMZ level progress from the mission and your kills, which can trigger a LEVEL UP / NEW REWARDS banner.
