Quick answer: Yuzan mostly throws crescent blades from range. Blue ones cost about 90 HP and red ones about 270 HP on WAYFARER. Dodge the blades, parry her close strikes, and escape the teal orbs.
Yuzan at a glance
Her name bar reads “Yuzan, No. 3 Musician Puppet“. She is a pipa-playing puppet, and her music launches blades and orbs across a wide arena. The damage figures below apply to Soul at 1,402 max HP with 3 healing gourds on WAYFARER.
| Detail | Value |
|---|---|
| Health | 52,100 HP |
| Weapon | Pipa (blue and red blades, white orbs) |
| Arena | Wide dirt yard with a crane statue in the middle |
| Start | Intro scene, then the fight |
| Respawn | Beneath the Well bell |
| Blue blade | About 90 HP |
| Red blade | About 270 HP |
| Close strike | About 72 HP |
| Reward | Heartrend Pipa |

About five and a half minutes of fighting on WAYFARER took her from 52,100 to 43,830 HP, around one-sixth of the bar. Death sends you back to the Beneath the Well bell.

During Chapter 1’s HEARTLESS REMNANTS main quest, Yuzan is in the caves beneath the well at the Village of Lu. Pass the Beneath the Well bell, then enter the muddy basin beneath the scaffolding to start her intro. Follow the complete path to Yuzan for directions down.
Yuzan’s attacks
Most of Yuzan’s damage arrives from across the arena, and she backsteps and sidesteps often to reopen the gap whenever you close in.
Red blade volley
A red orb encloses her before she sends curved red blades toward Soul, typically from 7 to 11 metres away. Each blade that hits deals about 270 HP, the fight’s biggest single-hit damage, and nearly one-fifth of a 1,402 HP bar. They connect roughly 2.4 to 2.5 seconds after the orb forms.

Use Dodge shortly before impact; waiting until the blade arrives means the input comes too late.
Blue blade
She uses this attack more than any other: blue energy swirls around her, followed by a blue crescent blade thrown across the arena. She may launch two or three consecutively. Each hit deals about 90 HP, with impact coming around 1 to 3 seconds after the swirl begins. Dodge every blade on its own.

Blue then red pair
A blue blade skims low along the ground, and a red crescent follows close behind it.

The blue blade costs about 90 HP. Dodge twice, and don’t stop after the first dodge, because the red follow-up is the hit that hurts.

White orb volley
From far out, about 11 to 16 metres, she sends glowing white orbs and a blade streaming toward Soul in three hits. They land about 1.1, 1.6, and 2.0 seconds after she starts. Individual hits range from 18 to 95 HP. Dodge in time with the three beats, or close the distance.

Blue burst dive
A blue flare appears above glowing red flowers, followed by her diving toward you inside a shimmering sphere.

Though each hit deals only 18 to 59 HP, the attack lands late, about 5 seconds after it begins. Let the initial flash pass, then dodge at the last moment.

Blue-flash strike
A bright blue flare comes first, followed by strikes at about 0.9 and 1.6 seconds, each worth up to 90 HP. This attack can be parried, and a clean parry throws sparks.

Close pipa strikes
When you stand next to her, she swings the pipa in short chains of strikes for about 72 HP per hit. Parry these. Parries against the chains hold up almost every time.

Dark orb grab
She strikes and pulls Soul toward the arena’s center as small teal orbs collect nearby.

A large, dark teal sphere then forms around Soul. If it engulfs Soul, the attempt ends instantly, regardless of your remaining health.

Stay in motion and move out of danger the moment teal orbs appear. Healing or absorbing the hit will not save you from this grab.
Tips for fighting Yuzan
- Approach this as a ranged battle. Hold your dodges for her projectiles, and parry only when she is close beside you.
- Red blades deal triple the damage of blue ones, so begin dodging slightly ahead of their impact.
- Leave the teal orbs at once. The grab can’t be tanked.
- Heal right after a dodge carries you clear of a volley.
- Her bar is long, so play for clean dodges instead of racing her.
WAYFARER cuts the damage she deals, making it a less punishing option if PATHBREAKER is too difficult. The difficulty settings compare how each mode works.
Yuzan reward: Heartrend Pipa
Yuzan drops the HEARTREND PIPA, an Artifice Phantom Edge with Damage 276 and Guard Break 234. Its card describes it as:
“A replica pipa with a clear, mournful tone that rends the heart. Its music can release Sonic Blades sharp enough to cut through anything.”
Tapping the Phantom Edge key repeatedly fires 2 Blue Sonic Blades followed by 1 Red Sonic Blade, and a full combo uses 1 Sha-Chi pip. The reward card then asks “Equip the new Phantom Edge now?”

The crane statue in the middle of the arena also becomes the Puppet Testing Grounds bell.
