Fake an Egg Scanners: How to Spot REAL and FAKE Eggs

Not every egg sitting in the middle of the Fake an Egg arena is an egg. Some are other players wearing a disguise. If you buy one and carry it home, you pay for nothing and walk a thief straight into your pen. Scanners solve that problem. You point one at an egg, and the game tells you whether it is genuine before any cash leaves your account.

Quick answer: Buy a scanner at the SCANNERS stall, equip it, walk up to an egg and press E at the Scan prompt. Green “REAL” means buy it. “FAKE” means walk away.

Each scanner is tied to an egg rarity. The shop description spells out the rule, and it works as a ceiling: a scanner checks eggs of its own rarity and every rarity below it. A Rare Scanner handles Common, Uncommon and Rare eggs, but it can’t read an Epic egg.

Epic ScannerEpicRebirth 5

Higher tiers sit behind Rebirth milestones, so the Epic Scanner needs Rebirth 5 before you can use it. A Rebirth only resets your cash, not your pets, so working toward that gate doesn’t cost you your collection. Stock is limited too. The shop shows a count next to each tier, such as “Stock: x4” or “Stock: x3,” so a popular scanner can run out.

Where to buy scanners

The SCANNERS stall sits in the central hub, right next to the PET FOOD stall and the WEATHER MACHINE, looking out over the field where eggs spawn. Head there from your base.

A bat runs the booth. Walk up and interact with it to open the menu. The header reads “Scan eggs to see if they are REAL or FAKE.”

Each tier gets its own row with a short description, its price and its remaining stock. Pick the tier that matches the eggs you plan to buy and confirm the purchase.

How to scan an egg in Fake an Egg

Select the scanner in your hotbar so your avatar is holding it. The Scan prompt only appears while it’s equipped.
Walk into the egg field and read the tag over the egg you want. It shows the egg’s name, rarity and price, which tells you whether your scanner covers it.

Every egg in the arena carries a tag with its name and price.
Once the “E Scan” prompt shows beside the egg, press E to scan it.
Read the floating text above the egg. A genuine egg shows “REAL” in green, while a disguised player shows “FAKE.”
If the egg reads REAL, press E at the “E Buy” prompt. Carry the egg back to your base.

Set the egg into a nest inside your pen to start its hatch timer. A real egg hatches into a pet when the timer ends, while a fake one gives you nothing.

You know the scan worked when the floating REAL or FAKE text appears over the egg. In the field, a Goldfish Egg and a Common Cow Egg both came back REAL, while a Gold Giraffe Egg came back FAKE.

Which scanner covers which egg

Prices climb steeply with rarity, and the expensive eggs are the ones where a wrong call hurts most. Here’s how real eggs from the field line up against the scanner you’d need.

EggRarityPriceLowest scanner
Spider EggCommon$30Common Scanner
Cow EggCommon$280Common Scanner
Horse EggUncommon$510Uncommon Scanner
GOLD Spooky Bat EggRare$6.6KRare Scanner
RAINBOW Gargoyle EggEpic$190.0KEpic Scanner
Triceratops EggLegendary$2.4MAbove Epic

Gold, Diamond and Rainbow versions of an egg cost far more than the plain version but keep the same rarity, so the same scanner tier applies. Eggs also wear a countdown on their tag, so a target won’t sit in the field forever.

What a FAKE egg costs you

FAKE eggs are players using the Disguise station, a tire ring with an “E Disguise” prompt. They pick an egg from the “Select Disguise” menu and stand in the field looking exactly like it.

When you buy a disguised player, they get paid the egg’s listed value. Each disguise names its payout in the menu.

DisguisePayout when bought
Elephant Egg$61.0K
Velociraptor Egg$900.0K
Triceratops Egg$2.4M
Mosasaurus Egg$11.0M

The money is only half of it. Once you place the fake in your pen, the disguised player is inside your base and can grab a hatched pet and run. A buyer who paid $2.4M for a fake Triceratops Egg also lost a Legendary Kitsune to the same player minutes later. Fake eggs show a Hatch button like any other, which is why the scan has to happen before the purchase.

If a thief does get in, a bat is your fallback. Hitting an intruder knocks them back before they can leave with a pet.

After a REAL egg hatches

A verified egg is only worth something once the pet is earning. When the hatch timer finishes, open your pet inventory and equip the new pet so it starts paying out.

New discoveries also unlock rewards in the Index. Open it, select the entry and press Claim, because rewards for discovering eggs don’t apply on their own.

Pet earnings collect at your base. Step onto the COLLECT ZONE pad to pick them up.

Equipped pets also fight. Around the map you’ll run into event areas and machines where your pets attack targets for cash, which is one more way to fund the next scanner.
