VV: Ultimatum Hollow Progression: Menos to Arrancar and Resurrection

How to pick a Hollow type, farm traits, evolve to Vasto Lorde, and unlock Resurrection.

How to pick a Hollow type, farm traits, evolve to Vasto Lorde, and unlock Resurrection.

Hollows are one of three playable races in VV: ULTIMATUM, and they start weaker than the other classes before scaling hard into the endgame. Progression runs from a starter skeleton through the Menos tier, into Adjuchas or Vasto Lorde, then Arrancar, and finally Resurrection. Each step changes how many Hollow Traits you can hold, so the order you evolve in matters.

Quick answer: Pick the Gorilla Hollow, farm Hollow Traits as a Menos and Adjuchas (Iron Skin, Deadly Claws, Wings), push the red questline to Vasto Lorde for all 4 trait slots, evolve into an Arrancar, then meditate with your weapon equipped (default M) until you reach the Inner World and win the Resurrection fight.

Which Hollow type to pick in VV: Ultimatum

After the tutorial, you are given one of four Hollow types. The choice matters for one specific reason. During your Resurrection fight later, you are forced to battle your original Hollow type, so picking a form that is hard to fight against yourself makes the endgame harder.

Hollow typeEffectVerdict
GorillaNo buffs or debuffsRecommended; balanced playstyle
LizardIncreases speed, decreases defenseGood if you prefer mobility
TurtleIncreases defense, reduces speedAvoid; delayed attacks are hard to parry
CentipedeGreatly increases speed, lowers defense and damageAvoid; oppressive speed to fight

The Gorilla is the safest pick. You will not play your starter form for long, so the main goal is a clean Resurrection fight rather than a strong early build.

How to get Hollow Traits before you remove your mask

Hollow Traits are permanent and stay with your character even after Resurrection, so they are the most important thing to collect early. You earn them by defeating other Hollows and consuming their remains, which gives a chance at a trait. When prompted, press “No” to reject any trait you do not want for your build.

Important: Traits cannot be gained once you are an Arrancar. Lock in every trait you want before removing your mask, and do not settle for only 2 traits when later forms allow 3 or 4.

The strongest traits to chase are Iron Skin, Deadly Claws, and Wings. Their effects are below, along with other notable options.

TraitEffect
Iron Skin+4% Melee Defense, +35% Posture Regen
Deadly Claws+3% Hakuda Damage, +0.1 Max AP
Wings+3% Movement Speed, +5% Shunpo Stamina, +3% Shunpo Speed
Skinny+7.5% Movement Speed, -1.2% Melee Defense
Giant+5% Melee Defense, +2% Kido Defense, -5% Speed
Energized+2% Kido Damage; weapon damage scales off Kido
Horns+35% Cero width, +10% Cero length
Tailbone+20% Cero damage, Cero is 25% thinner

Trait effectiveness scales further with Hollow clan buffs, which are acquired through clan rerolls on a gacha system. Rarer clans carry heavier bonuses, with Cifer and Aaroniero sitting at the 1% rarity tier.

Traits cannot be gained once you are an Arrancar.

How and when to evolve: Menos, Adjuchas, and Vasto Lorde

Reaching the Menos tier happens automatically as you consume Hollows around the map; no special requirement is needed. From Menos you face a branching choice, and evolving too early limits how many traits you can keep.

Become a Menos by consuming Hollows. From here, pressing L immediately turns you into a Menoscar with a small stat boost and only 2 trait slots, but that path ends your progression. Skip it if you want a stronger character.
Take the Adjuchas path instead. This requires destroying a set number of objects and killing a set number of players, with the exact counts shown in-game. Adjuchas grants 3 trait slots and access to the Cero ability.
Push into Vasto Lorde by following the red storyline quests, killing players, and collecting 70 points. Quincy and Shinigami kills give 10 points each, while Arrancar kills give 0. Vasto Lorde unlocks the full 4 trait slots, which is the maximum you can carry into Resurrection.

You can become an Arrancar from Menos, Adjuchas, or Vasto Lorde, but only Vasto Lorde lets you keep all four traits. When you evolve, pressing L rips off the mask and lets you customize your Arrancar. The evolution resets your stats and traits at the Vastocar step, so plan your build before committing.

As soon as you become an Arrancar, you choose your weapon. The Spear is a strong default because its long range helps in most encounters.

How to unlock Resurrection in VV: Ultimatum

Resurrection is the final stage of Hollow progression, and it begins once you are an Arrancar. The route taken to Arrancar does not affect this part.

Equip your active weapon and meditate by pressing M. Meditation drives the Resurrection process forward.
Meditate when the inner world is “whispering” to you. This shows up as yellow text above your skill hotbar, and the whispers appear most during missions, invasions, and PvP. If you keep falling asleep during meditation, the session is not effective and you need more XP first.
At a certain point you are asked a question. Every available answer is correct, so respond without worrying about a wrong choice. Continued meditation then pulls you into the Inner World.
Win the Resurrection fight against your original Hollow type. There is no penalty for losing; you can retry as many times as needed by meditating again.

You know it worked when the meditation sequence transitions you into the Inner World and the Resurrection fight begins, and clearing that fight grants your Resurrection form to use and upgrade. This is why picking a fair starter type and locking in the right traits early pays off, since both directly decide how manageable that final fight is.
