VV: ULTIMATUM Shikai Unlock Walkthrough for Shinigami

Reach Level 25, ride Spirit Whispers into the Inner World, solve the bells, then beat the Shikai NPC.

Reach Level 25, ride Spirit Whispers into the Inner World, solve the bells, then beat the Shikai NPC.

Shikai is the first real power spike on the Shinigami path in VV: ULTIMATUM, and earning it follows a fixed chain that opens the Inner World stage by stage. Each phase has a clear trigger, so once you know the full order, the grind stays focused and you avoid wasting meditation attempts before you meet the requirements.

Quick answer: Reach Level 25, press L to meditate until the green aura appears, meditate the instant a Spirit Whisper shows above your HP bar to bank Shikai EXP, solve the bells puzzle in the white void, hit Level 35 to clear the Inner World fog, then defeat the three-phase Shikai NPC to receive your Shikai weapon.

Shikai requirements in VV: ULTIMATUM

Two conditions gate the entire process. You must be playing the Shinigami race, and you need to clear specific level thresholds before each stage will trigger. The Meditation mechanic opens at Level 25, and the Inner World fog only lifts once you reach Level 35.

Build levels through quests, Soul Society, and the Soul Pager

Quest NPCs sit across Soul Society Outskirts, The Marsh, Arctic Plains, and Hueco Mundo. If one is hard to spot, hold C to activate Sense and highlight nearby characters. Main Story Quests in these areas push your level and feed every later milestone.

After finishing several Main Story Quests in Fort Adam and Soul Society Outskirts, the Soul Society zone opens. Press U to take the faction portal there, then head to the Hub. Kou, the Missions NPC standing outside, sells a Soul Pager. Buy it to start requesting Missions or to join active ones. Promotion Tasks from the same Soul Pager raise your Rank and unlock harder, higher-EXP missions.

How to get Mission Tickets

Every Soul Society Mission costs a Mission Ticket to enter. Three reliable sources keep them in stock.

SourceHow it drops
Main Story and Daily QuestsThe issuing NPC hands over tickets on completion
Open-world NPCsHollows, Dragonflies, Bats, and similar enemies have a drop chance
ChestsFound while exploring or finishing Missions, with a random chance to contain tickets

Tip: Soul Pages collected from defeated enemies can be turned in for large universal EXP, and The Dangai gives a +35% EXP bonus, both useful for closing the gap to Level 25.

Meditation and Spirit Whispers at Level 25

Once you are Level 25 or higher, press L to meditate. The first time you do this at that level, a green aura emits from your character. That aura is your confirmation that the Shikai process has started.
Watch for Spirit Whispers, the short one-liners that flash above your HP bar. Each one is a timed window. Press L to meditate the moment a Whisper appears, because meditating during it earns Shikai EXP. Letting Whispers pass without responding only slows you down.
Keep meditating during Whispers until you are pulled into the Inner World. If meditating during a Whisper just puts your character to sleep, your Shikai EXP threshold is not high enough yet. Return to quests and missions, then try again on the next Whisper.

Solve the bells puzzle in the white void

The first successful Whisper meditation drops you into a white void. Follow the floating blue orbs, which lead you to white bells. Interacting with a bell triggers either an NPC fight or a riddle. A wrong riddle answer sends you straight back to the main world, but any bell you have already solved turns blue and stays saved, so you continue from where you stopped without redoing it.

RiddleCorrect answer
I cannot talk, but I always reply when spoken to. What am I?2 — An Echo
What gets broken without being held?1 — A Promise
What is always in front of you, but can’t be seen?1 — The Future

Once every bell is solved, you return to the main world and your progress saves automatically.

Clear the Inner World fog at Level 35

Meditating after the bells puzzle returns you to the Inner World, but on this first return it is fully covered in fog. A main story quest activates here and sends you back to the main world with a requirement to reach Level 35. Hit Level 35, finish that quest, then meditate again. The Inner World will be clear when you arrive.

Beat the three-phase Shikai NPC

Inside the cleared Inner World, search for the Shikai NPC. It has no fixed spawn point, so explore until you find it. Interact with it to check your Shikai EXP. If the amount is too low, head back to the main world, grind more quests, and return.

The first encounter is simple. Defeat the NPC once to complete it. After that, gather more Shikai EXP and challenge it again to start the full three-phase fight.

PhaseWhat the boss does
Base FormUses all of your own skills and passives, mirroring your moveset closely
Second FormRevives keeping everything from phase one and adds new unique moves, the most varied stretch
Final FormOnce Second Form HP drops below three bars, it recovers four more HP bars and switches weapons; defeat and execute it to end the fight

Because the boss copies your stats, over-leveling can make the fight harder rather than easier. Bring healing items, learn each phase’s tells before going aggressive, and practice parrying and dodging in normal combat first. Winning returns you to the main world with your Shikai weapon unlocked. Hold E during combat to swap your primary weapon for it.

Unlock Shikai abilities

The Shikai weapon arrives without its full ability set turned on. Meditate again to return to the Inner World and find the Shikai NPC one more time. With enough Shikai EXP, speaking to it triggers a dialogue that sends you back into the white void, this time filled with silhouettes of various Shikai weapons.

Locate the silhouette that matches your Shikai weapon and interact with it to finish the unlock. An Ability tab then appears inside your Character, Inventory, and Quest Log menus. That tab is your confirmation the unlock worked. Ability Tokens earned through continued play can be spent there to reroll your Shikai Ability whenever you want a different one.

Each stage gives a visible signal you can check against. The green aura confirms the process began at Level 25, solved bells turn blue, the fog lifts after Level 35, the boss execution hands over the weapon, and the new Ability tab marks full Shikai completion. You can run the whole sequence yourself in VV: ULTIMATUM on Roblox.
