How to build Pyrois in Zenless Zone Zero (Version 3.0)

The best W-Engine, Drive Discs, stat priority, and team comps for the free Ether Attack agent.

The best W-Engine, Drive Discs, stat priority, and team comps for the free Ether Attack agent.

Pyrois is the S-Rank Ether Attack agent introduced in Zenless Zone Zero Version 3.0, and he arrives as a main DPS who is handed to every player for free. Both Pyrois and his signature W-Engine, Sol Exuvia, are unlocked through the Roscaelifer main story, which makes him one of the easiest hypercarries to gear up the moment you reach him.

Quick answer: Equip Sol Exuvia, run a 4-piece The Sky Ablaze Drive Disc set, level the Core Skill first, and pair Pyrois with one Stun agent and one Support so his Additional Ability stays active.

Pyrois agent overview

Pyrois belongs to the Phaethon faction and deals Ether damage as an on-field Attack agent. His kit runs on a resource called Solar Prominence. He enters combat with 30 points, regenerates 0.5 per second, gains more from landing attacks, and caps at 60.

That meter powers his Enhanced Basic Attack, Celestial Light, which becomes available once you hold the Basic Attack button with 30 or more Solar Prominence. Pyrois also stands out as the only agent who needs just 2,000 Decibels to fire an Ultimate, and he can choose between four different Ultimate branches each time.

Best W-Engines for Pyrois

Sol Exuvia is the clear best-in-slot, and since it comes free with Pyrois, you do not need to pull for it. It carries 713 Base ATK and a 30% ATK bonus, then layers on a 20% CRIT Rate increase through its passive. Using an Ultimate grants the Eclipse effect, which lets Pyrois ignore a portion of the enemy’s Ether RES for 45 seconds, and that effect is also granted the instant he enters combat.

If you want substitutes, a handful of options come close. Marcato Desire is the standout free-to-play pick because it provides 20% CRIT Rate and stacking ATK from Special and Chain Attacks. Higher-rarity stat sticks can also fill the slot if you already own them.

Best Drive Discs for Pyrois

The Sky Ablaze, also listed as Dawn Chronicles, is the top 4-piece set because it is built around Ether agents. The 2-piece bonus adds 10% Ether DMG, while the 4-piece grants 30% CRIT DMG and a 10% ATK boost for 30 seconds after an EX Special Attack or Ultimate. If you already have a strong Puffer Electro set, that 4-piece works too, since it scales Ultimate DMG and PEN, which suits a kit that leans on Ultimates.

If you prefer a split setup, pair two pieces of The Sky Ablaze with a flexible 2-piece option based on the stats you need. The difference between these 2-piece choices is small, so use whichever pieces have the better sub-stats.

Woodpecker ElectroCRIT Rate +8%
Puffer ElectroPEN Ratio +8%

Pyrois Drive Disc stat priority

Build Pyrois like a standard Attack agent, with CRIT Rate, CRIT DMG, ATK, and PEN as the priorities. His kit already supplies a lot of CRIT DMG through the faction bonus, the Total Annihilation Ultimate, and The Sky Ablaze, so make sure your CRIT Rate is high enough to land those multipliers consistently.

SlotMain stat
Disc 4CRIT Rate / CRIT DMG
Disc 5Ether DMG / ATK% (PEN in attack-buffer teams)
Disc 6ATK%

For sub-stats, prioritize CRIT Rate and CRIT DMG, then ATK%, then PEN. In teams that already run an attack buffer, a PEN main stat on Disc 5 edges ahead, because the extra DMG and ATK buffs can oversaturate Ether DMG and ATK%.

Pyrois skill priority

The Core Skill is the first thing to level, since it raises base stats and directly boosts his Ultimates. After that, focus on the Chain Attack and Ultimate, then the Basic Attack and EX Special, because those are his main damage sources. Dodge and Assist sit at the bottom, although the Assist is worth a few levels if you want more Daze from his Assist Follow-Up.

  • Core Skill (highest)
  • Chain Attack / Ultimate
  • Basic Attack
  • Special Attack
  • Dodge / Assist (lowest)

Pyrois’ four Ultimates and rotation

Pyrois is the only agent with four Ultimate branches, chosen after you press the Ultimate button. Each branch serves a different purpose, and knowing when to use them is the core of his damage.

BranchUltimateEffect
LowerTriumphant Return+40% DMG, +15% Energy Generation, and EX Special blocks grant Solar Prominence; lasts the whole fight
UpperTotal AnnihilationGrants 40% CRIT DMG against Stunned enemies for 21s
RightEternal ImprisonmentDeals the most damage and triggers Totalize; ends the Stun window with a fixed-damage finisher
LeftUnbound SwordstormBonus damage to enemies under Wind Anomaly or Contamination; situational

As combat begins, fire the Lower branch (Triumphant Return) to lock in the long-lasting buffs that run for the rest of the battle.
Build the enemy’s Daze with your Stun agent, then swap to Pyrois with full Solar Prominence and use his EX Special and Enhanced Basic Attack.
Once the enemy is Stunned, use the Upper branch (Total Annihilation) for the 40% CRIT DMG buff, then chain into Celestial Light and forward a Chain Attack to Pyrois to refill Decibels.
Just before the Stun window closes, fire the Right branch (Eternal Imprisonment) to land the Totalize finisher and squeeze out maximum damage.

Best Pyrois team comps

Pyrois’ Additional Ability, Glorious Legion, must stay active in every team. The condition is simple. Bring at least one Stun or Support agent, and Pyrois gains 40% CRIT DMG while his Chain Attacks restore Decibels. Build around the standard Attacker, Stunner, and Support shape.

Main DPSStunSupport
PyroisDialynSunna
PyroisNormaAstra Yao
PyroisJu FufuSunna
PyroisQingyiNicole
PyroisLycaonNicole

The Pyrois, Dialyn, and Sunna lineup is the strongest premium option. Dialyn is among the best Stunners in the game, extending Stun duration and raising the Stun multiplier while feeding extra Ultimates, and Sunna adds an ATK buff, healing, and rotational damage. For a free-to-play setup, Lycaon and Nicole cover Stun and DEF shred while pairing naturally with an Ether carry.

Pyrois Mindscapes worth chasing

Pyrois’ Mindscapes and W-Engine copies come from exploring the Roscaelifer map and raising your Inter-Knot level, with the first two Mindscapes currently obtainable and the rest reaching out into future patches. The first Mindscape (M1) is the most impactful early stop, giving 1,000 Decibels on entering combat and an extra 8% CRIT Rate, which smooths out his rotation and solves early energy droughts.

With Sol Exuvia handed out for free and a kit that works with a wide range of Stun and Support partners, Pyrois is one of the most accessible main DPS agents to gear in Version 3.0. Lock in the Core Skill, prioritize CRIT, and keep your Ultimate branches in the right order to get the full value out of every Stun window.
