Air Sprite in Fortnite: How to Catch It and Use Sprite Shrines

What the Air Sprite does, where to spot it, and how to trade it for Epic loot.

What the Air Sprite does, where to spot it, and how to trade it for Epic loot.

The Air Sprite is one of the elemental sprites roaming the Fortnite Island, and it behaves differently from the sprites you equip in your loadout. Instead of granting a passive perk, this one is a wild creature you chase down, carry, and hand over at a shrine for a reward. It first arrived with the sprite mechanic in Chapter 6: Season 1.

Quick answer: Find the Air Sprite using the orange air-shaped icon on the map, walk up and pick it up while it tries to flee, then drop it into an Air Sprite Shrine to free it and collect Epic-tier loot plus an air Boon.

Where to find the Air Sprite

Air Sprites appear at fixed spots around the map and are flagged by an orange, air-like icon. Drop near one of these markers and look around the immediate area, including upward, since the creature and its matching shrine sit close together. Water Sprites use a blue water-style icon nearby, so the orange marker is how you tell the air variant apart at a glance.

You can also find sprites tucked inside certain containers as you loot, not only out in the open world.

How to catch and carry the Air Sprite

Approach the sprite directly. The Air Sprite will try to flee the moment you get close or attack it, so move toward it steadily rather than scaring it across the area.
Interact to pick it up. Once grabbed, the Air Sprite counts as an Epic rarity item that you carry with you.
Keep moving with it equipped. When the carried sprite is not your active held item, it sits in the slot where your Back Bling would normally go. If you drop it, it reverts to a wild creature on the ground.

Air Sprite Shrine rewards

The whole point of carrying the Air Sprite is the shrine. Carrying one lets you access shrines, and depositing the sprite into a Sprite Shrine releases the creature and pays out Epic tier loot. That reward includes a Boon tied to the sprite’s element, so an Air Sprite gives you an air Boon along with the gear.

You will know it worked when the sprite is freed at the shrine and the Epic loot and matching Boon drop for you to collect.

Giving the Air Sprite to Bushranger

During Chapter 6: Season 1, a carried sprite could be handed to Bushranger in Nightshift Forest. Doing so shifted the time of day to daytime and granted a Solunar Key. This was a season-specific use tied to that location and chapter.

Treat the Air Sprite as a short side objective rather than a loadout pick. Spot the orange icon, close the gap before it bolts, and carry it straight to the nearest shrine to bank the Epic loot and the air Boon.
