Mario Kart World now runs on Ver. 1.7.0, a free update for the Nintendo Switch 2 game that expands Knockout Tour with two fresh routes. The headline additions are Drill Rally and Boomerang Rally, both built from courses already in the game rather than brand-new tracks. Alongside them come stickers for Photo Mode, a stack of handling and balance tweaks, and a wide sweep of bug fixes.
Quick answer: Drill Rally and Boomerang Rally become selectable in Knockout Tour after you clear at least one rally in that mode. Install Ver. 1.7.0 first, then play through a single rally to unlock the choice.

Drill Rally and Boomerang Rally in Knockout Tour
Knockout Tour drops 24 racers into one long dash across the map, cutting the field at five checkpoints until only the fastest survive. The two new rallies are new stitchings of existing courses that you race toward and around, not new circuits. Drill Rally runs between Wario Shipyard and Bowser’s Castle. Boomerang Rally links Salty Salty Speedway and Whistlestop Summit.
| Route | Start and end points |
|---|---|
| Drill Rally | Wario Shipyard to Bowser’s Castle |
| Boomerang Rally | Salty Salty Speedway to Whistlestop Summit |
Both routes stay locked until you finish one Knockout Tour rally, so a single completed run is the gate. Nintendo has confirmed more Knockout Tour routes are on the way, with six additional rallies planned across future updates.

Photo Mode, reached from the pause menu, now lets you drop stickers you have collected onto your shots. You can layer them with frames to build custom pictures, and placement works with touch controls or Joy-Con 2 mouse controls.
Handling and balance changes in Ver. 1.7.0
Several tuning changes shift how characters and vehicles perform, which is likely to move the racing meta. The update raises acceleration for low-acceleration setups and increases gliding speed for high-speed characters plus some others.
- You can hop right away after being hit by Kamek’s magic or a Bullet Bill.
- The conditions for a Jump Boost by shaking the controller while driving on water have been adjusted.
- Landing on rivals now gives a longer dash time afterward.
- You can cancel a slipstream by braking before it starts.
- The rate at which players pull items from item boxes in races and Knockout Tour has been adjusted.
- You can now see the Super Horn a rival is holding.
- A ramp has been added to the race that runs from Airship Fortress to Bowser’s Castle.
- Thai language support has been added, selectable under System Settings > System > Language.

Bug fixes in Ver. 1.7.0
The fixed-issue list is long, with most entries addressing falls off course, gliding speed, and specific track spots. One item worth noting for competitive players is a Time Trials fix. Ghosts affected by an incorrect finish-line timing bug may be removed from View Rankings without notice.
- Corrected an incorrect time reading after crossing the finish line in Time Trials.
- Fixed slower gliding speed when starting a glide right after crashing.
- Fixed a crash when hitting a Goomba or Para-Biddybud the player had already sent flying.
- Fixed being unable to board a helicopter in Online Play and Wireless Play.
- Fixed shorter Bob-omb throws behind the player on the Standard Bike and W-Twin Chopper.
- Fixed a number of Bullet Bill issues.
- Fixed a Spiny Shell breaking a gold block or broadcast van on impact.
- Fixed clipping through walls in Bowser’s Castle.
- Fixed getting stuck on an electronic sign in Dandelion Depths.
- Fixed falling off course after using a Feather following a Jump Boost in Dandelion Depths.
- Fixed falling off after jumping on a parasol in the race heading to Salty Salty Speedway.
- Fixed falling off in the shortcut on the route from Koopa Troopa Beach to Dino Dino Jungle.
- Fixed losing two coins at once in the race heading east from Peach Stadium.
- Fixed falling from the rail during a Jump Boost while rail riding from Cheep Cheep Falls to Dandelion Depths.
- Fixed getting stuck on a shop pole at Shy Guy Bazaar.
- Fixed Dry Bones falling through the ground near Dry Bones Burnout.
- Fixed falling off the edge in the race from Wario Shipyard to DK Pass or Cheep Cheep Falls.
- Fixed being sent far ahead after falling off course on various tracks.

How to install the update
Ver. 1.7.0 rolled out on June 30, 2026, so the download should already be available on any connected Switch 2. With more Knockout Tour routes confirmed for later updates, this is the first of several planned expansions to the mode.
