Where each Hedgehog spawns, what to feed them, and how many days it takes to unlock all four as companions.

Hedgehogs are the only new critter companion in the Honeyglow Woods Adventure Pack for Disney Dreamlight Valley, and there are four color variants scattered across the biome. Taming them is quick by critter standards because they never run from you, but each one lives in its own corner of the woods and keeps its own schedule. Getting all four means knowing where to stand, when to show up, and what to hold.

Quick answer: Approach a Hedgehog, wait a couple of seconds for it to relax, then feed it its favorite food (Pufflebud Pods or Golden Honey). Do this once per day for three days and that Hedgehog becomes a companion.

You need the Honeyglow Woods Adventure Pack

These Hedgehogs only exist inside Honeyglow Woods, so the Adventure Pack has to be installed before you can find or befriend them. That is the same setup used for other DLC-exclusive critters like Sweet Bees, Geese, and Skunks, where the main versions are locked behind the paid content.

Note: Different variants may show up in the Premium Shop during future updates, but that is not confirmed, and any shop version would not match the ones roaming the woods. The reliable way to get the classic set is through the pack itself.

Where each Hedgehog spawns and when

Honeyglow Woods is split into four sub-biomes, and each one is home to a single Hedgehog variant. They stay in their own region, so you will never catch, say, the Orange Hedgehog wandering into Drowsybloom Acre. Match the variant to its area and its active hours before you go looking.

Green HedgehogGloommeadowEvery day, 12AM – 12PM
Yellow HedgehogBraveheart GroveEvery day, 12PM – 12AM

The Classic Hedgehog is the easiest to find since it never leaves and never sleeps. The Orange Hedgehog is the hardest because it only turns up in the afternoon and evening on three specific days. Schedules follow your local time zone, so plan the Green and Yellow variants around their morning and afternoon windows.

How to approach a Hedgehog

There is no red light, green light minigame here and no chasing. Unlike raccoons, alligators, or foxes from the base game, Hedgehogs let you walk right up to them.

Walk toward the Hedgehog. It may act a little shy at first and back off slightly.
Stand near it for a few seconds without moving. It will settle down and the feed prompt will appear.
Feed it. That is one step closer to unlocking it as a companion for future quests.

Favorite foods and where to get them

Every Hedgehog shares the same taste. Their favorite foods are Golden Honey and Pufflebud Pods, and feeding either one builds your bond fastest. They also like any fruit, but fruit does not count as an official favorite and rewards less.

  • Golden Honey comes from Beekeeping. Place flowers around a Busy Bees’ House so the bees pollinate them, and Golden Honey builds up over time for you to collect.
  • Pufflebud Pods are sold at the Seed Stall in Drowsybloom Acre. Farm them while you wait for honey to generate.

Golden Honey is the strongest choice for speed, but it is slow to produce, so many players lean on Pufflebud Pods as the steady option. If you have neither on hand, fruit still works to keep making progress.

Feeding rewards for each visit

Each feed drops a random item, and the reward pool depends on whether you fed a favorite or just a liked food.

Food typePossible reward
Favorite (Golden Honey or Pufflebud Pods)Dream Shards, Memory Shard, or a Motif Bag
Liked (any fruit)Dream Shard, Memory Shard, or 2x Carrot Seeds

Unlocking a Hedgehog as a companion

You need to feed each variant a favorite food three times to unlock it. Because a critter only accepts one feeding per day, that means three real sessions across three days per Hedgehog. There is no way to speed this up by feeding several times in one day.

Once the third feed lands, the Hedgehog becomes an available companion you can equip, and taming it also unlocks unique poses for Photomode. If you cannot feed a Hedgehog on a given day, the two most common reasons are that you already fed it earlier that day, or the variant is not currently active in its biome, which matters most for the Green, Yellow, and Orange versions with limited hours.

What Hedgehog companions do

Hedgehogs carry the foraging collection bonus. With one equipped at your side, it will occasionally turn up extra forageable goods such as Apples, Blueberries, or Bananas while you gather. That makes them a practical pick for stocking up on ingredients, on top of being one of the cuter additions the pack brings to the Valley.
