The Golden Bucket sits at the top of the item pool in Drain the Lake as one of three Legendary-rarity Buckets, and it earns that spot with two passive effects that keep working the whole time it is equipped. It boosts your Token income and, more importantly, it can hand you Diamonds while you play. Diamonds are the currency you need to buy new Buckets, so a Bucket that generates them turns into a slow but steady engine for the rest of your account.
Quick answer: Buy the Golden Bucket for 2,000 Diamonds at the Buckets station. There is no other unlock condition.

What the Golden Bucket does
Like every Legendary Bucket, the Golden Bucket carries two passive effects. Both stay active for as long as the Bucket is equipped, and neither needs any input from you beyond your normal runs.
| Passive | Effect |
|---|---|
| Token boost | Increases Tokens earned from all sources by 15%. |
| Diamond drop | Pouring the Bucket into the drain may occasionally grant Diamonds. |
The Diamond drop is the reason to prioritize this Bucket. Diamonds are the most valuable currency in the game and the only way to purchase new Buckets, and any content added later is likely to lean on them too. Because farming Diamonds normally takes real effort, a passive that occasionally produces them is a reliable long-term source you do not get from any other item.

The requirement is a flat price. Head to the Buckets station and spend 2,000 Diamonds to add the Golden Bucket to your collection. There is no achievement gate, no level lock, and no hidden step. The only thing standing between you and the Bucket is the Diamond balance.
You will know the purchase worked once the Golden Bucket appears in your owned Buckets and can be equipped from the station. From that point, both passives apply the moment it is in use.
Fastest way to reach 2,000 Diamonds
Diamonds come from two places. You open Chests during runs, and you claim Badges. Chests appear at random across the different levels, so they trickle in as you play. Badges pay out once each, which makes them the more predictable target if you want to build toward the Bucket on purpose.
There are 18 Badges in total, and together they award 1,540 Diamonds. That covers 75% of the 2,000 you need on its own. Individual Badges can grant up to 150 Diamonds each, though some take a while to finish depending on which one you go after.
Three of those Badges ask you to open 10, 100, and 1,000 Chests. Since every Chest you crack also drops Diamonds, you will almost certainly cross the 2,000 mark from Chest openings alone well before you finish the 1,000-Chest Badge. In practice, chasing Badges and opening Chests along the way tends to fund the Bucket without you needing to grind either source in isolation.
Tip: Lead with the Badges you can complete quickly. They are one-time payouts, so knocking out the easy ones early gives you a large chunk of the 2,000 without waiting on the long Chest-count Badges.
Once the Golden Bucket is equipped, it quietly compounds your progress. The 15% Token bump speeds up everything you earn, and the occasional Diamond drops feed straight back into buying whatever Buckets come next, which is exactly what makes spending your first 2,000 Diamonds here worthwhile.
