Journals in Palworld are glowing blue tablets set on small pedestals across the world. Walk up to one, interact, and the entry is saved to your log for good. They hold the game’s real backstory, a shipwrecked castaway’s survival record, and the personal history of each tower boss. There are 49 collectible entries in total spread across the Palpagos Islands, Sakurajima, and Feybreak.
Quick answer: Collect 40 of the 49 journal entries to earn the Trail of the Castaway achievement, which leaves nine to spare. Coordinates are listed as X, Y map values below, grouped by author.

How journals work and how to read them
Collection is saved per character, not per world, so you gather your own set on each save. A pedestal you have already emptied looks almost identical to a cleared Lifmunk Effigy stand, so watch the pin type before walking back to one you already have. Many journals sit near fast travel statues, which makes them easy to sweep up as you unlock new travel points.
To confirm a pickup worked, press ESC and open the Journals menu. Collected entries are revealed and readable in Day order, while anything you have not found yet stays locked. If an entry does not show up after you interact with a tablet, you are likely looking at an already-collected pedestal or an empty effigy stand instead.

Entries you cannot collect
Two Castaway entries, Day 70 and Day ??, exist in the game files but have no world spawn. They cannot be picked up and do not count against the Trail of the Castaway achievement, so there is no pedestal to hunt for either one.
With 49 collectible entries in the world and a 40-entry requirement, you can skip up to nine and still earn the achievement. If you plan to read every diary for the full story of the five tower bosses and the castaway, aim to clear all 49 across the mainland, Sakurajima, and Feybreak.
