Honkai Star Rail 4.4: Should You Pull Rin Tohsaka?

A clear pull verdict on the Fate collab's Quantum Erudition carry, plus who she needs on the team to shine.

A clear pull verdict on the Fate collab’s Quantum Erudition carry, plus who she needs on the team to shine.

Rin Tohsaka headlines the second wave of the Fate/stay night collaboration in Honkai: Star Rail Version 4.4, arriving as a 5-star Quantum character on the Path of Erudition. Her banner opened July 24, 2026, and because collab units historically do not rerun, this is effectively a limited window rather than a recurring one.

Quick answer: Pull Rin if you own Archer or lack a strong multi-target Quantum damage dealer. She is close to a priority pull for Archer owners and clears current endgame at E0 with no signature Light Cone. If you skipped Archer or already run a built Erudition carry, treat her as optional.

What Rin Tohsaka does in Honkai Star Rail 4.4

Rin is a Quantum Erudition sub-damage dealer built around a resource called Gem Energy. She feeds off the team’s Skill Point economy, converting Skill Point spending and recovery into Gem Energy, then dumping that energy into a heavy multi-hit AoE attack. She both raises the ceiling on Skill Points and spends them aggressively.

Her core mechanic, Gem Magecraft, gives her 20 Gem Energy on entering combat. Each time an ally consumes or recovers a Skill Point, Rin gains 1 Gem Energy and grants that ally a 70% Crit DMG buff for 2 turns. Once she holds 15 or more Gem Energy, or the team has 7 or more Skill Points, her Skill upgrades into Second Magic Experiment.

That enhanced Skill is where her damage lives. It hits all enemies for 90% of ATK, then spends 3 Gem Energy per extra bounce at a random target, repeating up to 33 times. If the team holds more than 2 Skill Points when she casts it, she drains the excess down to 2 and converts each consumed point into 2 Gem Energy. While she is on the field, the team’s Skill Point cap rises by 2.

Her Ultimate, An Gal Ta Ki Gal Šè, deals 600% of ATK to a primary target and 200% to everyone else, recovers 1 Skill Point, and applies a 20% damage-taken increase to all enemies for 3 turns. Her Technique pre-loads 10 Gem Energy, so her first enhanced window can arrive on turn one.

Why she is worth pulling

The strongest reason to pull is Archer. When both are fielded, Rin unlocks a Joint Follow-Up Attack called Freeform Tohsaka Style. After Archer uses his Skill, if there are 3 or fewer Skill Points remaining, the pair strikes all enemies for 300% of Rin’s ATK and 300% of Archer’s ATK, then recovers 4 Skill Points for the team. This keeps the Archer rotation from stalling and extends his relevance.

On top of that, Rin’s Elegant Conduct trace boosts her own ATK by 150% and Quantum RES PEN by 15% on entering combat, and if Archer is on the team, he receives the same buffs. That makes her both a damage dealer and an amplifier for Archer in one slot.

  • Her enhanced Skill can bounce up to 33 extra times, making her one of the best answers to Pure Fiction and Apocalyptic Shadow, where waves of weaker enemies dominate.
  • Raising the Skill Point cap by 2 and refunding a point on Ultimate means she runs alongside other Skill Point spenders without starving them.
  • She clears all current endgame at E0 with no signature, so you do not need to whale for a functional version.
  • As a Fate collab unit, she is unlikely to ever rerun, so this is the realistic only chance to get her.

When to skip Rin

A large slice of her value comes from Archer. She is technically playable without him as a hypercarry, but she loses the Joint Attack entirely and part of her identity. If you skipped Archer, you are effectively buying half of a two-piece combo.

If a built Erudition carry such as Himeko Nova, Herta, Argenti, or Rappa already clears your multi-target content, Rin is closer to a sidegrade than a gap-filler. Against lone bosses her multi-hit fantasy shrinks, so an account struggling with single-target Memory of Chaos floors is better served by a single-target specialist.

There is also a wallet consideration. Gilgamesh shares the same collab window, and pulling both on a thin bank risks losing both 50/50s and landing neither. If jades are tight, pick the one your roster actually needs and commit to it.

Note: If Archer is missing from your account, you can claim him or Gilgamesh from the Fate Contract: Renewal event. Picking Archer feeds Rin’s intended synergy; if you already own him, choosing Archer again grants an Eidolon instead.

How much to invest

Honkai: Star Rail guarantees a 5-star by 90 warps under a 50/50 system, and pity on collab banners is shared across collab banners but independent of Limited and Standard pity. Budget by the outcome you want rather than the luck you hope for.

TargetWho it suits
E0, no signatureMost players. A functional collab carry that clears current endgame.
E0 + Flickering StarsArcher owners who want her at full power. The cone amplifies her Skill Point payoff and DEF-ignore.
E1S1 and beyondDedicated Archer mains. Eidolons add roughly 12–15% each with no dramatic spike.

E1, Zelretch’s Apprentice, is her best early Eidolon. If a single enhanced Skill consumes 30 or more Gem Energy, she gains an equal amount of Shadow Gem to fuel the next enhanced Skill, effectively refunding that energy and sharply improving her hypercarry output. E2 raises Skill DMG for all allies to 130% of the original, and E4 lets her Crit DMG buff stack twice, doubling it from 70% to 140%. E6 is expensive but adds 20% All-Type RES PEN plus 24 Gem Energy and an extra turn on Ultimate.

Teams that make Rin work

The template is Rin plus Archer, a Skill Point or buff support, and a sustain. The joint-attack core wants a teammate that keeps Skill Points and buffs flowing, which is why Sparkle pairs so cleanly with the duo.

Outside the Archer team, Rin can run as a hypercarry, a setup that benefits heavily from Cerydra duplicating her enhanced Skill for a large burst turn once Gem Energy is stocked. Beyond those two setups her application narrows, since she cannot buff other damage dealers the way she buffs Archer.

The verdict comes down to fit. Rin Tohsaka is an excellent limited-window Quantum Erudition carry whose value is amplified, and partly gated, by Archer. For Archer owners and anyone missing an AoE Quantum damage dealer, she is near the top of the priority list and stays friendly to low-spend accounts thanks to her E0 performance. For players who skipped Archer or already own a built Erudition carry, she is a tempting luxury rather than a must. Pull for the fit and the fantasy, not for the fear of missing out.
