Gilgamesh is a 5-star Lightning character on the Path of Destruction, and his whole kit runs on other people. Every time an ally acts he banks a point of “Interest,” which speeds up his turns and eventually locks him into spamming his hard-hitting Skill. That means your team choice matters more for him than for almost any other damage dealer in the game.
Quick answer: Run Gilgamesh + Saber + Mortenax Blade + Huohuo. Saber unlocks his Joint Follow-Up Attack, Mortenax Blade shreds defenses and acts as a sub-DPS, and Huohuo keeps the energy-hungry lineup topped up.

Why Saber is the core of his best team
Gilgamesh is designed to be glued to Saber. When Gilgamesh or Saber attacks, a shared tally ticks up by one. Once any unit’s attack pushes that tally to 8, the pair fire a Joint Follow-Up Attack together, dealing Lightning damage equal to 400% of Gilgamesh’s ATK and Wind damage equal to 600% of Saber’s ATK to all enemies.
That follow-up does three things at once. Gilgamesh gains 3 Interest, Saber regenerates a flat 120 Energy, and Saber’s next Ultimate deals 200% of its original damage. Drop Saber from the lineup and you lose the joint attack entirely, which cuts a large slice of the team’s total output.
Note: this is why the premium comp is his ceiling. Gilgamesh provides Saber the Energy, damage amplification, and personal damage she was missing, without lowering his own contribution.
Best Gilgamesh team (Saber duo)
| Slot | Unit | Role |
|---|---|---|
| DPS | Saber | Main damage; shares the Joint Follow-Up Attack |
| Dual DPS / Support | Gilgamesh | Sub-DPS, buffs Saber, gains turns off ally actions |
| Sub-DPS / Support | Mortenax Blade | DEF shred, Interest stacks, enemy debuffs |
| Sustain | Huohuo | Team-wide energy, ATK buff, healing |
Mortenax Blade is one of Gilgamesh’s best allies here. He piles on damage amplification, feeds Interest, and applies debuffs while dealing his own damage. His DEF shred also pairs well with the Genius of Brilliant Stars relic set on Gilgamesh when enemies are Quantum Weak.
Huohuo is the standout sustain because this comp burns through energy fast. Her Ultimate restores energy to the whole team and layers an ATK buff on top, which keeps both Saber and Gilgamesh firing their Ultimates on schedule.
Support and sustain swaps
If you are missing a piece, the flexible slots are the support and the healer. Keep Saber and Gilgamesh fixed, then fill the rest from what you own.
| Slot | Best option | Alternatives |
|---|---|---|
| Support | Mortenax Blade | Tribbie, Sparkle, Cyrene, Cipher, Sunday, Robin, Silver Wolf, Ruan Mei, Tingyun, Remembrance Trailblazer |
| Sustain | Huohuo | Dan Heng Permansor Terrae, Hyacine, Aventurine, Lingsha, Gallagher |
Gilgamesh hypercarry team (no Saber)
Don’t have Saber? Gilgamesh still works as a solo carry. The trick is to load up on units that attack often, because every ally action adds Interest and accelerates his rotation.
Ashveil is the sub-DPS of choice in this build. He attacks frequently through his follow-up attacks and Bait mechanic, and those extra actions chain directly into Gilgamesh’s turns. Pair the two with Mortenax Blade and a healer, and Gilgamesh, Ashveil, and Blade can land big hits in quick succession.
| Slot | Best option | Alternatives |
|---|---|---|
| DPS | Gilgamesh | — |
| Sub-DPS | Ashveil | Sunday, Remembrance Trailblazer |
| Support | Mortenax Blade | Tribbie, Sparkle |
| Sustain | Hyacine | Huohuo, Dan Heng Permansor Terrae |
Hyacine fits well as the healer here because her Memosprite adds damage while her healing keeps the team alive. A common alternative version pairs Gilgamesh with Mortenax Blade, Tribbie, and Huohuo, using two buffers who also deal damage while Huohuo covers energy and healing.

Free-to-play Gilgamesh team
Gilgamesh himself is free to claim during patch 4.4, so a budget lineup keeps him useful without limited pulls. Remembrance Trailblazer, Welt, and Huohuo are all obtainable without banner luck.
| Slot | Unit | Role |
|---|---|---|
| DPS | Gilgamesh | Main damage dealer |
| Support | Remembrance Trailblazer | Damage buffs and action advance for Gilgamesh |
| Sub-DPS | Welt | Extra damage plus debuffs that amplify enemy damage taken |
| Sustain | Huohuo | Healing, ATK buff, and Ultimate energy |
One caveat with Remembrance Trailblazer. He supplies amplification and turns for the Gilgamesh-Saber duo, but he doesn’t push enough amp toward Gilgamesh himself, which nudges the team toward broader supports like Tribbie, Mortenax Blade, or Welt. In an all-budget shell, that trade-off is fine.
What each teammate feeds Gilgamesh
Every recommended ally exists to solve one of Gilgamesh’s two problems: he needs allies to act often, and he needs energy. When you weigh a substitution, check what the unit gives him on those two fronts.
- Saber — the only source of the Joint Follow-Up Attack and the reason to build the premium comp at all.
- Mortenax Blade — DEF shred, Interest stacks, and debuffs, useful with or without Saber. His reliable taunt can even enable a sustainless setup.
- Ashveil — frequent attacker whose follow-ups chain into Gilgamesh’s extra turns, ideal for the no-Saber build.
- Huohuo — team-wide energy restoration, which matters because Gilgamesh has one of the highest energy demands in the game.
- Remembrance Trailblazer — action advance and buffs; strongest as a budget filler rather than a premium pick.
You’ll know a team is working when Gilgamesh reaches 10 Interest quickly and locks into “Interest Piqued!,” at which point he stops using Basic ATK and only casts his Skill. Fast-acting allies, action advances, and follow-up units all push him there sooner, so if he feels slow to ramp, add more frequent attackers before touching his gear.
