A clear rundown of the modes, summoning, traits, and progression systems that define Expeditions Entertainment’s anime tower defense game.

Anime Expeditions is an anime tower defense game on Roblox built by Expeditions Entertainment, the studio behind Anime Defenders. You summon anime-inspired units through gacha banners, place them along fixed paths, and defend across story worlds while pushing into Expeditions and Raids at higher levels. It fully launched on July 17, 2026 and crossed more than 180 million visits within days.

Quick answer: Load the game, follow the Beginner’s Path quests to reach level 10 for your first summons, then unlock Expeditions at level 20 and Raids at level 25 while rerolling Traits and Stats and using duplicates for Ascension.

Anime Expeditions core facts

The game leans on a polished lobby, a clean user interface, and steady performance even when the map fills with units and effects. The hub is a large fantasy city with portals for Summon, Showcase, Upgrades, and a Tournament zone, plus menus for the Store, Units, Items, Quests, Areas, and Events.

Game modes and when they unlock

Content is split into distinct modes, each with its own reward track. Story worlds open first, then higher-level modes gate behind character level. Expeditions unlock at level 20, and Raids open at level 25.

ModeWhat it isUnlock / rewards
Story ModeWave-based maps across five story worlds with multiple actsGems, food, basic equipment
ExpeditionsRoguelike endgame runs with path choices and mercenary unitsLevel 20
RaidHigh-difficulty cooperative missionsLevel 25; exclusive units and rare materials
TournamentCompetitive mode with a countdown timerPrestige rewards and leaderboard status
AFK ChamberZone that earns rewards while you are awayGems and exclusive units

The five story worlds unlock in order: School Grounds, Flower Forest, Rose Kingdom, Fairy King Forest, and King’s Tomb. Each stage also carries optional Star Missions, such as winning under a Yen budget or without losing health, which reward extra materials for optimizing your placement and economy.

Summoning, banners, and pity

Summoning is the core of the unit system, and it opens once you reach level 10. Gems are the main summoning currency, and you can pull one at a time or use a 10x option. A Rates button shows exact drop chances before you spend.

Banner / systemPurpose
Beginner’s BannerStarter event packed with featured Mythic units for early rosters
Standard BannerFull unit pool for regular pulls
Mini BannerFeatures a single Mythic unit
Legendary PityGuarantees a Legendary at 20 pulls
Mythic PityGuarantees a Mythic at 50 pulls
Secret PitySafety net reported at 10,000 summons for the rarest units

The Beginner’s Banner features parody takes on popular anime characters, including Puppet, String Demon, Hollow, Lady Giant, Elf Mage, Flame Emperor, Salmon Sorcerer, and Cursed Student. Grabbing an early farm unit such as Stone Alchemist or Ramen Guy matters more than raw rarity, since economy units let you afford expensive mid-wave upgrades.

Units, stats, and rarities

Every unit carries a rarity and a set of core stats. The three stats to watch are DMG (damage per hit), SPA (seconds per attack, so lower is faster), and RNG (range). A combined DPS figure sums up overall output, and each stat is graded so you can read strengths quickly.

StatMeaning
DMGDamage dealt per hit
SPAAttack cooldown in seconds; lower is faster
RNGHow far a unit can target
DPSSustained damage per second

During a match you set each unit’s targeting Priority (such as First), Upgrade it through levels until it is Maxed, or Sell it to recover currency. Higher-rarity carries like Shadow, 8th Sword, Cursed Student, Elf Mage, and Puppet sit at the top of the roster once fully invested.

Traits and Stat Potential

Traits are random modifiers that change how a unit performs. Rerolling them with Trait Crystals is where deeper optimization begins. The top trait carries a 1,500-roll pity and grants a large flat damage boost, while other traits target crit, damage over time, or gold generation.

TraitKey effect
Top Tier (Pity)+350% damage, -5% SPA, +10% range
Single Placement+35% damage, +20% range; limited to one unit on field
Crit Trait+20% damage, +35% crit damage and chance
DOT Trait+50% DOT damage, -10% cost
InvestorIncreased gold generation

On top of Traits, a Stat Potential system lets you reroll individual stats like damage and range using Stat Expanders. Two players holding the same unit can end up with very different performance because of these rolls.

Ascension, evolution, and equipment

Duplicate units are not wasted here. Ascension consumes duplicates to raise a unit’s base stats, including damage and range, so even low-value pulls feed into a stronger core team. This keeps older units relevant and softens the power creep common in the genre.

Evolution runs on a separate track. Key evolution materials come from each unit’s dedicated Challenge, which is usually short, while shared upgrade items can be bought with gold or earned through missions. Carries such as Cursed Student and Flame Emperor evolve using Sprites and unit-exclusive gear to unlock passives. Units also have equipment slots for gear and relic items, plus cosmetic skin and accessory slots.

Tip: Use in-game settings like Auto Wave Start, Auto Skip, Fast Summon, and Auto Upgrade to speed up farming so you can focus on placement instead of manual clicking.

Expeditions, the roguelike endgame

Expeditions is the mode that gives the game its name and its main endgame hook. Instead of defending a single base, you team up and travel across a randomized run, choosing path nodes, deciding what to upgrade, and hiring mercenary units along the way.

Rewards from a run feed into your Expedition Base back in the hub, where you buy upgrades, craft gear, and unlock further progression. Because paths and unit combinations change each time, no two runs play out the same way.

Put together, Anime Expeditions pairs a polished lobby and smooth performance with layered progression through Ascension, Traits, Stat Potential, and evolution. The Showcase area lets you test a unit’s animations, range, and attack speed in the lobby before committing resources, and the roguelike Expeditions mode gives long-term players a reason to keep building. If you are starting fresh, clear the Beginner’s Path, secure a farm unit, and let Ascension turn every duplicate into a stronger team.
