The Lootin’ Llama Sprite arrived in Fortnite Chapter 7 Season 3 with the v41.30 update, turning the game’s iconic loot piñata into a companion you can carry into every match. It sits at Legendary rarity, has no fixed spawn point, and rewards you with weapon upgrades while you play normally.

Quick answer: Open Sprite Chests and Rare Chests during a Battle Royale or Zero Build match, pick up the Lootin’ Llama Sprite when it drops, then extract it at an Extraction Site or with a Portable Extractor before you are eliminated. Once extracted, it stays in your collection permanently.

Every way to get the Lootin’ Llama Sprite

The Lootin’ Llama has no guaranteed location, so finding it comes down to opening the right containers and getting a bit of luck. It is not one of the rare Sprites, and its drop rate is high enough that many players find it within a single match. It appears far more often than tougher pulls like the Grim Sprite or Zero Point Sprite.

MethodHow it works
Sprite ChestsThe most reliable source, with a strong chance to drop the Sprite. Found across the island and inside underground vaults.
Rare and Epic ChestsBecause it is a Legendary Sprite, it can also appear in regular and Epic chests, though at lower odds.
Lucky Locator GizmoRewards a Sprite you do not already own, so it can hand you the Lootin’ Llama if your collection is nearly complete.
Sprite Locator GizmoReveals nearby Sprites so you can track them down faster.
Eliminating opponentsAny player carrying the Sprite drops it when defeated, so you can claim it from them.
Trading with teammatesSquadmates can trade Sprites, which is the quickest route if someone already has one.

If you are hunting solo and want every version, equip a Holofoil Sprite. This raises your chance of pulling the Lootin’ Llama and its special variants from chests. Golden Grove and Calamari Canyon are dense with chests, making them good places to run your search.

Extract it to keep it permanently

Picking up the Sprite is only half the job. If you are eliminated or leave the match before extracting, you lose it and any level it gained. Extraction is what locks it into your collection for good.

Grab the Lootin’ Llama Sprite as soon as it appears, and avoid unnecessary fights once you are carrying it.
Head to the nearest Extraction Site and start the extraction, or use a Portable Extractor to pull it out from anywhere on the map if a site is too far away.
Defend the process until it finishes. A Victory Royale also counts as an extraction. Once done, open your Sprites tab in the Lobby to confirm the Lootin’ Llama now shows as owned.

What the Lootin’ Llama Sprite does

With the Sprite equipped, opening an Ammo Box gives you a chance to receive a free weapon upgrade at the same time. Since you open ammo boxes constantly during a match, the ability works passively without any extra effort. It is a strong pick for saving Sprite Dust that you would otherwise spend on rarity upgrades.

The chance scales with the Sprite’s level, which you raise by opening containers, downing enemies, and extracting Sprites while it is equipped.

Lootin’ Llama Sprite levelChance to grant a weapon upgrade
Level 15%
Level 210%
Level 315%
Level 417%
Level 520%

Note: Leveling to Level 5 and extracting the Sprite marks it as Mastered, which counts toward Sprite Mastery Rewards.

All Lootin’ Llama Sprite variants

Beyond the standard version, the Lootin’ Llama comes in four special variants. They share the same weapon upgrade ability but use different visual styles. Equipping a Holofoil Sprite improves your odds of pulling these from chests.

  • Lootin’ Llama (base)
  • Gold
  • Gummy
  • Galaxy
  • Gem

Because the base Sprite drops so freely, most players clear it early and can focus the rest of their runs on chasing the rarer color variants. Keep opening Sprite Chests, lean on a Holofoil Sprite for the special versions, and extract each one you find to make it permanent.
