Limit Breaker Journey is the single-player mode added with the Super Limit-Breaking NEO expansion for Dragon Ball: Sparking Zero. You pick one fighter, travel across a world map full of randomized battles and events, and level that fighter up run after run until you can clear the final boss. It plays like a roguelite fused with the game’s arena combat, and it expects you to lose a few times before you win.
Quick answer: Start on Easy with a strong character, spend stamina on close, low-SP destinations early, pour SP into balanced stats, and save both Senzu Beans for the Round 5 boss and the Round 10 final boss to clear the run.
How to access Limit Breaker Journey
The mode is tied to the paid Super Limit-Breaking NEO DLC, which released on July 30, 2026 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC, with Nintendo Switch and Switch 2 versions arriving later. Once you own and install the expansion, Limit Breaker Journey unlocks automatically. It also becomes the default menu option the first time you boot the game after installing, so you will land on it immediately.
If you do not have the expansion yet, it is available through the official Super Limit-Breaking NEO DLC page.

Starting shop items and what they cost
Before the run begins, you can spend Zeni in the shop on items that tilt the odds in your favor. Some are expensive, so prioritize. Stamina is central to this mode, so a stamina boost is worth grabbing, extra EXP speeds up leveling, and the Dragon Ball Detector helps if you are farming Dragon Balls.
| Item | Price (Zeni) | Effect |
|---|---|---|
| EXP Boost 1 | 10,000 | Slightly increases EXP earned. |
| Stamina Recovery Boost | 12,000 | Increases stamina recovered. |
| Vengeance Seeker | 20,000 | Lets you retry a lost battle one time. |
| Cartographer | 10,000 | Adds one more destination. |
| Final Battle Debuff | 10,000 | Lowers the opponent’s SP in the Final Battle by 5. |
| Final Battle Buff | 10,000 | Raises the opponent’s SP in the Final Battle by 5. |
| Dragon Ball Detector | 15,000 | Increases the chance of obtaining a Dragon Ball. |
| Power Level Boost 1 | 15,000 | Increases your SP by 5 during battles. |
| High Difficulty Mastery | 5,000 | Raises the opponent’s SP above yours, with a small EXP bonus. |
| Reroll | 10,000 | Rerolls destination options, usable up to three times. |
Reading the world map and managing stamina
After a short intro that pairs your fighter with a mentor, the run opens on the world map. This screen is the heart of the mode, and reading it well is what carries you to Round 10 and the end boss. Each destination hosts a different event, and you decide where to go next.

Destinations include opponents with varying SP levels, conversation markers that usually unlock Battle Arts, random events, ambushes, Powerful Foes, and special battles with unique conditions marked by an exclamation point. Battles under special conditions often buff the enemy, so weigh the reward before committing.

Every move you make drains stamina, and how far you travel matters. Stamina directly affects how much health you carry into a fight, so aim for close destinations with low-SP enemies at the start. Once you are stronger, risk harder opponents at greater distances for bigger EXP rewards.
Leveling with SP points and Battle Arts
Winning a battle awards SP points that level up your fighter. The amount scales with the opponent’s level, which is also what determines how hard the fight is. You spend these points across six stats, ranging from health and attack power to faster Ki charging, and how you distribute them defines your build.

You can lean into a glass cannon with heavy attack power or a defensive fighter built to survive long fights. Early on, at Level 1, balancing the stats is the safer choice since the CPU hits hard. As your SP increases, you can also equip more Battle Arts at once.
Battle Arts are special enhancements earned through unique encounters, and they are among the most useful things you can pick up. They can strengthen Ki attacks, improve your performance during Sparking Mode, or grant other combat advantages. You can only equip a limited number, so treat slot choices as part of your build.
Note: Battle Arts usually come from conversation markers, but they can also appear as random events that hand out stamina, EXP, and SP instead. Visit those markers when you can, but do not assume a Battle Art is guaranteed every time.
Round 5 hidden levels and the Round 10 final boss
At Round 5 you get a warning that more powerful opponents are appearing, and the map hides enemy SP levels behind question marks. You can still read enemy strength through the color of those marks. Blue is the easiest, while dark red signals a very powerful foe.
The final boss appears on the map once you reach Round 10, and it is the toughest fight in the mode. You can still pick the lightest color option for the easier version of the encounter. Clearing it finishes the run, unlocks new levels and options, and lets you start again with the same fighter or a fresh one.
Save your Senzu Beans for the boss fights
You carry two Senzu Beans that restore stamina during a run. Hold onto them for as long as you can rather than spending them the moment you take damage. The best moments to use them are right before the Round 5 boss and the Round 10 final boss, since those are the hardest fights. With that plan, you can push as far as you want beforehand.

Losing runs and carrying your fighter into other modes
Losing a battle ends the run, and the mode is built around that happening. When it does, pick the same character again and keep your progress from earlier runs, which makes each attempt easier than the last. Treat a loss as a checkpoint rather than a reset.

Your trained fighter is not locked to the mode either. Turn on “Battle with Limit Breaker Journey Character” in the Rule settings and you can bring that leveled-up build into offline matches and online play, testing everything you invested against real opponents. That crossover is the real payoff, since a favorite character keeps every stat point and Battle Art you earned along the way.
