A Monk and a Saint is the middle chapter of the Night Terrors questline in The Blood of Dawnwalker, and it ends with Coen holding the Broken Sword of St. Mihai. The quest hides its real obstacle behind a vague objective marker, since the courtyard graves cannot be opened until Coen has learned which sigil belongs to Mihai.
Quick answer: Write the five correct answers on Albertus’s wall in the Middens, learn Mihai’s scale sigil from the fresco on the far-left scaffold inside Svartrau Cathedral, open the second grave from the right in the courtyard, then break the highlighted wall in the crypt and defeat Mihai to receive the Broken Sword of St. Mihai.
Requirements, rewards, and time cost
The quest begins on its own inside the Night Terrors chain, and Albertus’s whereabouts come from an earlier conversation in that questline. There is no fail state, so nothing here is missable, but the crypt fight at the end is a hard stop if Coen is underlevelled.

Albertus then confirms that Mihai’s sword lies in the crypt beneath Svartrau Cathedral. Before leaving, sweep the room for loot, including the book “Saint Mihai: The God’s Warrior”, a Rotten Book, and the Herbal Remedies I manual sitting in the discarded pile.

Learn Mihai’s sigil inside Svartrau Cathedral
The cathedral sits in the eastern part of Svartrau City and is easy to spot by its tower. Coen cannot open any grave until he knows what Mihai’s symbol looks like, and there are two ways to learn it depending on when you arrive.
At night: climb the tower and check the frescoes
During the day: the Caretaker’s key and the library
Open Saint Mihai’s grave in the courtyard
Return to the courtyard on the north side of the cathedral, where Focus Mode highlights five graves. Blood Guards patrol this area at night, and clearing them can drop a Beastmaster’s Ring and Darksteel Bracers.
Facing the cathedral, the correct memorial stone is the second from the right, marked with the scale sigil from the fresco. Inspect the symbol and Coen shifts the stone himself, exposing the underground entrance. If the interaction does not appear, you have not yet studied the fresco or the library clue.
Note: an optional route through the courtyard well leads to a corpse that also reveals the memorial stone. Investigating the well and the corpse each costs 1 Time Segment, and you have to push a boulder aside to get back out.
Explore the crypt and break the sealed wall
Restock and repair before you drop in, because the crypt ends in a boss fight with no exit prompt. Take the first door on the left and follow the passage to the dead end, looting the Wilboar Hauberk and a Flute along the way.

Scanning the left wall in Focus Mode picks out the source of the scratching noise as a yellow-highlighted section of weak stone. Interacting digs it open for 1 Time Segment and triggers the cutscene. Mihai has been sealed inside the wall the whole time.
Beat Mihai, Patron of the Cathedral
Mihai mistakes Coen for Tobias, the man who betrayed him, and attacks immediately. He fights with a sword and has a deep health pool, so the fight is long rather than tricky.

Three things define the encounter. His lunges are fast and unblockable, so dodge rather than parry them. He floods the room with thick fog that ruins visibility, and he teleports out of it, often behind you, so reposition instead of standing still after he vanishes.
When he falls, two timed dialogue choices appear. Neither changes the outcome. Mihai recognises Coen as a fellow dawnwalker, explains that Tobias denounced him as a pagan warlock, and reveals that the khoboldin shattered his blade before directing you to the uriashi blacksmith.
Loot the boss room and compel Mihai’s soul
Take the Broken Sword of St. Mihai first, then use Focus Mode to find the two quest items glowing yellow in the same room, the Broken Chains and the Worn Sheath. Both act as catalysts for compelling Mihai’s soul, which fills in what actually happened to him. Compelling him requires daytime, so if you cleared the crypt at night you will need to come back.
How to confirm the quest is finished
The completion banner marks both A Monk and a Saint and Night Terrors as done, and Forge It Anew appears in the quest log straight away. Check your inventory for the Broken Sword of St. Mihai and the 1 Skill Point added to your character sheet alongside the 1,000 XP.
The sword itself is close to useless in its broken state. Forge It Anew is where it becomes worthwhile, since collecting Sword Shards and taking them to the uriashi blacksmith turns it into the Imbued Sword of St. Mihai and unlocks the Arbiter’s Blade trophy.
