AION 2 Meta Classes Ranked, From Gladiator to Spiritmaster (2026 Tier List)

How all eight core classes stack up across PvP and PvE ahead of the September 2026 launch.

How all eight core classes stack up across PvP and PvE ahead of the September 2026 launch.

Picking a class in AION 2 is the first real decision you make, and it sticks. Classes are locked at character creation, so the rhythm you commit to on day one is the one you live with. Some classes carry fights on raw damage, others exist to keep a group breathing, and a couple are only as good as the team around them. Here is how the eight core classes shake out when you weigh burst, survivability, and how much a party actually needs them.

Quick answer: Gladiator and Assassin are the strongest all-around picks right now, Cleric is the must-have support, and Templar and Spiritmaster sit at the bottom because they lean too hard on the rest of your group to shine.

S-tier: Gladiator and Assassin

Gladiator is the closest thing AION 2 has to a class with no bad matchup. It hits hard up close, clears packs with strong area attacks, and stays alive thanks to life-leech built into its combos. There is no glaring weakness to plan around, which is exactly why it tops the list for both solo and group play.

Assassin earns the other S slot on pure kill pressure. Its single-target burst deletes priority targets, and stealth plus gap-closers let it pick when a fight starts. That makes it the go-to for 1v1 PvP and boss damage. The trade-off is punishment. Mistime an engage or waste a burst window and you fold fast, so it rewards clean play more than any other class.

A-tier: Cleric

Cleric is the healer every group wants. Its team-saving cooldowns, cleansing, and resurrection make it a constant in serious PvE, and those same tools swing PvP fights that should have been losses. Damage is low, so you are not carrying kills yourself, but the demand for a reliable healer keeps Cleric a tier above the rest of the support roster.

B-tier: Ranger, Chanter, and Sorcerer

These three are strong in the right hands, but each carries a real caveat.

  • Ranger deals steady ranged damage while kiting with traps, but it is squishy and lives or dies on positioning. Get caught, and you disappear.
  • Chanter is a hybrid support with excellent group buffs and backup healing. It shines in organized PvE, but weak solo pressure holds it back in PvP.
  • Sorcerer brings huge ranged burst and area control, but its thin defenses make it a favorite target for gap-closers. It needs peeling and space to pay off.

C-tier: Templar and Spiritmaster

Templar is the main tank and does that job well, with heavy defense, shields, and aggro control. It falls to the bottom of the meta ranking because solo damage is poor and its value depends almost entirely on having a coordinated group to protect. If you want a defined frontline role, it is still the pick, just not a strong solo one.

Spiritmaster leans on summoned spirits for damage and control, plus fear effects that disrupt fights. The utility is unique, but the damage is less reliable than the other DPS classes, and its output swings depending on setup and content. That inconsistency keeps it in C-tier despite the toolkit.

How this ranking was decided

Placements weigh combined PvP and PvE performance, how forgiving a class is to play, and how much a group actually needs it. High-consistency classes with few weaknesses sit at the top; classes that demand a strong team or perfect execution to compete drop lower. This reflects the current pre-global-launch meta, and balance will shift after release, so treat the bottom tiers as “harder to carry with,” not unplayable.

AION 2 is scheduled to launch in September 2026, and you can wishlist it on Steam ahead of that window. No exact release day and time has been confirmed yet. If you are still torn, the safest bets to learn on are Cleric and the frontline classes, while Assassin and Sorcerer ask the most from you before they start paying off.
