The Dark Spiritstone is a level 33 creature of Normal rank found in the open world. It does not attack on sight, so it will leave you alone until you choose to engage it. On the Elyos side it lives in Verteron, and all 9 of its marked spots are in Altamia Canyon, which makes the canyon the one place to go when you need it.

Teleport to the Canyon Campsite statue, then walk about 150 m to reach the spawns. You will mostly come here for quests. The Episode quest Barrier Traces needs only 1 kill and rewards 5,769,136 XP, Kina (Bound) x22,000 and a Drifter Cloak x1. The Duty Safe Hiking asks for 20 kills and pays Abyss Points x1,000 and Kina (Bound) x50,000. Festival Preparations: Altamia Canyon II is a repeatable Duty that needs 15 kills, so it is worth picking up whenever you return to the canyon.
