Flameruff’s Highland Form is the Fire/Rock variant of No. 002, a Gamma Stage DPS that trades the base version’s single-element line for extra coverage and a second weakness. It lives in only two places in Breezy Plains, and unlike some regional forms, you do not have to evolve one to own one.

Quick answer: Catch it in Russet Highlands or Zephyrus Landbridge in Breezy Plains, where it spawns in any weather at any hour, or evolve a Lv. 12 Highland Emberpup while standing in Russet Highlands.

Flameruff (Highland Form) locations in Breezy Plains

Both habitats sit in the Breezy Plains region, and both are late-40s content. Highland Emberpup shares the same two areas, so you can farm the pre-evolution and the evolved form on a single trip.

AreaLevel rangeSpawn points
Russet HighlandsLv. 45–506
Zephyrus LandbridgeLv. 47–574

Spawns are not gated behind a clock or a weather state. Sunny, storming, midday or midnight, the habitat zones stay active. The one behavioral quirk worth knowing is that Flameruff sleeps at night, which makes a quiet approach far easier after dark.

How to find the habitat zones on the map

Wandering Russet Highlands hoping to bump into one wastes time. The map already draws the exact patches where the form appears.

On the world map, enter Breezy Plains, then choose Russet Highlands; its in-game area overview shows Lv. 46–51.

Open the Aniilog entry for Flameruff Highland Form from the area panel. The details tab shows the Fire/Rock element line, which is how you confirm you are looking at the Highland record and not the base Flameruff.
Switch to the Habitats tab. The map fills in yellow squares marking every spawn zone for that specific form. Russet Highlands holds six of them.
Fast travel to the nearest transporter and run to a marked square. Russet Highlands has 29 transporters, so the walk from a warp point to any zone is short.

Catching Flameruff (Highland Form) in the wild

Wild capture is the faster route for most players, because it skips the evolution gate entirely. The base catch chance sits at 29%, and two setup moves swing that number in your favor.

  • Breaking it gives a ×1.5 multiplier on the catch attempt.
  • A backstab also gives ×1.5, which pairs naturally with its nighttime sleep state.
  • Sparkling odds are 1 in 20,000 at base.
  • Gender splits evenly between male and female.

Nature is rolled on capture at fixed odds, so rerolling means catching more copies rather than manipulating anything in the field.

Gentle30%
Aloof20%

Bring something that is not Fire or Rock. Flameruff reduces incoming Fire and Ice damage to 0.391x, so a Fire team will chew through its HP far slower than a Water attacker, which lands 2.56x.

How to evolve Highland Emberpup into Flameruff

If you would rather raise one, the pre-evolution is Emberpup (Highland Form), a Lumin Stage Fire/Rock DPS that spawns in the same two areas. It carries 67 HP, 90 Attack, 60 Defense, 40 Break, and 68 EP Regen, and it is noticeably smaller at 0.9 m and 12 kg.

Two conditions gate the evolution, and both must be true at the same moment.

  • The Highland Emberpup must reach Aniimo level 12.
  • You must be in Russet Highlands when you trigger it.

There is no stone cost on this step. Releasing the resulting Flameruff returns a Growth Flower, and reporting it in the Aniilog pays 100 Credits.

Evolving Flameruff (Highland Form) into Scorchhowl

The Nova Stage record for this line is Scorchhowl, a pure Fire DPS with 95 HP, 119 Attack, 80 Defense, 52 Break, and 90 EP Regen. It drops the Rock typing, so the Highland form’s extra coverage does not carry forward.

Three requirements apply. The destination itself has to be unlocked by defeating the Alpha Scorchhowl, your Flameruff has to hit Aniimo level 20, and the evolution costs Blaze Stone x1. Beating the Alpha only makes the branch available; it does not evolve anything on its own.

Scorchhowl lives in Beast Fang Ridge at Lv. 30–35, well below the Highland habitats, so the Alpha hunt takes you out of Breezy Plains’ northern areas.

Flameruff (Highland Form) stats, skills, and traits

Base total lands at 456, spread toward offense. It is a front-line attacker with thin durability and modest energy regeneration.

  • Fire Kick leaps with brief invincibility, then dives for area damage. A successful dodge deals 120% damage and raises your damage by 20% for 20 seconds.
  • Pebble Kick is the Rock version of that dodge-dive. On a successful dodge it deals 120% damage and applies Blockade for 8 seconds, which stops the target from swapping Aniimo.
  • Fire Bolt launches a fireball and applies two Fire Debuff stacks for 5 seconds. Fire Resistance drops 1% per stack, with a maximum of 20 stacks. Keep the button held to aim.
  • The trait Scorching Flames adds 25% damage against elementally countered targets.
  • Its mobility skill, Hustle, burns stamina for faster movement, which makes it a reasonable traversal pick.

Because Fire Bolt strips Fire Resistance, the form slots in cleanly beside Fire attackers, and Flamerion is the recommended partner. On the Homeland side it brings Fire Lv. 2, Earth Lv. 1, and Hauling Lv. 2. Ferocious Fang and Explosive Gloves are the suggested held items, with Attack as the potential to invest in.

How to confirm you got the Highland Form

Open the Aniilog after the capture or evolution and check the No. 002 entry. The Highland record shows a Fire and Rock element pair, the Gamma Stage label, and the line about mountain-dwelling Flameruffs with perfect camouflage and lava-coated claws. The base Flameruff sits on the same number but lists Fire only and a different entry about pack loyalty.

Measurements are another quick tell if the form icons look similar at a glance. The Highland Flameruff stands 1.2 m and weighs 18 kg, sitting between the 0.9 m Emberpup it came from and the 1.7 m Scorchhowl it can become. Once that entry is filled in, the form is logged, and the Zephyrus Landbridge route stays open if you want a second copy with a different nature.
