Anime Expeditions: How to Get Sovereign (Djinn) and Build It

Every material, cost, and stat you need to turn Sovereign into a top-tier SS unit with the Unbound trait.

Every material, cost, and stat you need to turn Sovereign into a top-tier SS unit with the Unbound trait.

Sovereign is a Storm/Physical unit in Anime Expeditions that becomes something else entirely once you evolve it. The evolved form, Sovereign (Djinn), sits in the top tier of the current meta thanks to chain lightning, a freeze effect, and a placement cost low enough that you can drop it in the first wave of a run and start upgrading immediately.

Quick answer: Buy the Lightning Emblem for 10,000 Sand Dollars from the Summer Fish Fest Event Shop, then evolve Sovereign using 1 Lightning Emblem, 1 Spirit King’s Cloak, 25 Storm Jewels, 5 Storm Pearls, and 15,000 Gold.

Sovereign (Djinn) evolution materials and costs

The evolution is gated by a single event-locked item. Everything else is farmable, so the Lightning Emblem is the piece to secure first.

Sand Dollars come from Summer Portal runs. Tier 5 runs pay out the most per clear, so that is the fastest route to 10,000 if you are starting from zero. If you are short on Gold when you reach the Evolve menu, selling duplicate units you no longer field is the quickest fix — spare copies of things like Cursed Immortal cover the 15,000 requirement without touching anything you actually use.

How to evolve Sovereign into Sovereign (Djinn)

Run Tier 5 Summer Portals until you have 10,000 Sand Dollars, then open the event shop and buy the Lightning Emblem. Nothing else in the evolution chain is time-limited, so buy the Emblem before the event window matters.
Open the Stat Potential menu and reroll Sovereign’s stats before you evolve. Aim for high ratings across the board — SSS on damage with S or better elsewhere is a solid target. Doing this pre-evolution saves you from rerolling on a more expensive unit later.

Check your Gold balance. If you are under 15,000, sell duplicate units until you clear the threshold. The evolution will not start without the full amount alongside the Spirit King’s Cloak, 25 Storm Jewels, and 5 Storm Pearls.
Go to the Evolve menu, select Sovereign, and confirm. The unit’s name changes to Sovereign (Djinn) and its passive list updates to Djinn Combination, Lightning Djinn, Nine Tailed Fox Djinn, and Djinn’s Judgment. That passive list is your confirmation the evolution went through.

Feed EXP items to Sovereign (Djinn) until it hits Level 50. The stat numbers below assume Level 50, so anything lower will read noticeably weaker in the testing zone.

What Sovereign (Djinn)’s passives do

The unit swaps modes depending on what is on the field. Djinn Combination handles that switch, moving between Lightning Djinn and Nine Tailed Fox Djinn based on whether a boss is present.

  • Lightning Djinn — adds five chaining attacks, which is where the wave-clearing comes from.
  • Nine Tailed Fox Djinn — gives 50% more damage, applies Freeze, targets bosses, and leaves a permanent 15% slow after the Freeze expires.

That split is the reason it ranks so high. You get mob clearing and boss damage out of one slot instead of dedicating two.

The Unbound trait and what it changes

Unbound is the mythic trait to chase, and it is a 0.1% roll. It gives +350% damage, -5% SPA, and +10% range, with the catch that it is single placement. On a unit this cheap to deploy, that restriction costs you very little.

Reroll traits from the Trait Reroll menu using Trait Crystals. Crystals come from the Season 3 Battlepass and can be purchased in the lobby, so stockpile before you start rolling.

Here is how the numbers land at Level 50 with Unbound, before and after in-match upgrades.

StatLevel 50Max upgrade
DMG5,66429,794
SPA4.43.44
RNG21.733.1

Note: Unbound is not the only workable trait, but nothing else scales the damage this hard. If you are burning through crystals without hitting it, the unit still performs — you are just leaving a large multiplier on the table.

Equipment and placement cost

Equip the Lightning Dagger. It lines up with the unit’s Storm typing and is the straightforward pick for pushing damage further.

Placement runs 950 Yen, which is the detail that makes this unit worth the material spend. You can put it down on the opening wave and start feeding upgrades into it immediately instead of banking Yen for several waves first. That early ramp compounds — by the time expensive units become affordable, Sovereign (Djinn) is already several upgrades deep.

Testing the build before a real run

Drop the unit in the testing zone and upgrade it there first. You should see line-shaped AoE attacks and enemies freezing in place. If the freeze is not appearing, the unit is likely locked in Lightning Djinn mode because no boss is present — that is expected behavior, not a bug.

For a live test, Rose Kingdom – Act 1 on Infinite with Hard Mode gives you enough waves to watch both modes trigger and to confirm the upgrade curve holds up.

Sovereign (Djinn) currently shares the top tier with the likes of Vegetable (Prince), Prodigy (Rage), Dark Mage (Sovereign), and Shadow (Divine). The difference is the entry price — those units either need Secret pulls or heavy team scaffolding around them, while this one is a Mythic evolution gated mostly behind an event currency grind. If you have the Sand Dollars, it is one of the cheapest paths to a genuine endgame carry.
