Anime Expeditions: How to Get the Sovereign Secret Unit in Update 2

Four Djinn's Treasures craft Sovereign's Portal, and hosting a clean Coral Kingdom clear locks in the Sinbad-based Secret unit.

Sovereign is the Secret-rarity unit added in Anime Expeditions Update 2, built around Sinbad from Magi: Adventure of Sinbad. It does not appear on any summon banner. The only way to add it to your collection is to build and beat Sovereign’s Portal, a crafted challenge that ends in a boss fight on the Coral Kingdom map.

Quick answer: Farm four Djinn’s Treasures from the Tier 5 Summer Portal, craft Sovereign’s Portal at the Crafting station, then host that portal and clear all 20 waves on Hard Mode. The host receives Sovereign at a 100% rate on completion.

What you need before crafting Sovereign’s Portal

Everything traces back to a single material. Djinn’s Treasure only drops from the highest tier of the Summer Portal chain, and you need four copies of it before the Crafting station will let you assemble anything.

Charged Dust also drops at Tier 5 and works the same way for a different Secret Portal, so check the item name before you spend anything at the Crafting station.

How to farm Djinn’s Treasure from the Tier 5 Summer Portal

Buy a Tier 1 Summer Portal from the Tidal Siege Event shop for 1,000 Gems. This is the cheapest way into the portal chain and the only purchase you need to make.
Run the Tier 1 portal and clear it. Finishing a portal rewards the next tier up, and there is a small chance of skipping ahead to a Tier 3, 4, or 5 portal instead.
Keep clearing whatever portal you hold until a Tier 5 Summer Portal lands in your inventory. There is no shortcut here — the chain is the grind.
Augment the Tier 5 portal before you run it. Augmenting raises the drop rate on rewards, including Djinn’s Treasure, at the cost of a harder run. Only augment as far as your squad can reliably clear.
Clear the Tier 5 portal and check the victory screen for Djinn’s Treasure. Repeat until you have four. The pity counter means a dry streak eventually resolves itself at 25 runs.

Tidal Siege also feeds this loop. Its waves hand out Sand Dollars alongside materials that support the Secret Portal path, so it is worth running when you need currency rather than portal tiers.

Crafting Sovereign’s Portal at the Crafting station

Return to the lobby and open your inventory to confirm all four Djinn’s Treasures are present. The craft will not appear as available if you are even one short.
Walk up to the Crafting station and select Sovereign’s Portal from the recipe list. The panel lists the required items on the right, so verify the count reads four before you commit.

Confirm the craft. The four treasures are consumed and one Sovereign’s Portal is added to your inventory as a usable item.

Running the Sovereign’s Portal challenge

Activate Sovereign’s Portal from your inventory. The lobby loads the challenge on the Coral Kingdom map at Hard Mode difficulty, running the full 20 waves.

Invite friends if you want the extra damage. Bringing a party makes the boss wave far more manageable, and it does not reduce what the host receives at the end.
Press Start Game once the lobby meets its player requirement. The confirmation dialog appears with the Start Game button highlighted, and accepting it drops the party straight into Wave 1.

Build your defense across the early waves. Placements that carried you through Tier 5 portals will hold here, since the enemy pacing is similar until the final stretch.

Tip: if the screen becomes hard to read once several units are stacked on one lane, open the settings menu and toggle unit visual effects off. It is a cosmetic change only and has no effect on damage or rewards.

Prepare for Wave 20, which spawns the Fishman Boss with roughly 2.11 million HP. This is the only real damage check in the run, so bank upgrades for it rather than spending everything early.

Before the boss arrives, open the Unit Manager and set targeting priority on your main damage dealers so they lock onto the boss instead of trash mobs. You can also push last-second upgrades from the same screen.

Sovereign drop rates: Host vs party members

The reward split is the single most important thing to understand before you invite anyone. Whoever owns and activates the portal is the one guaranteed to walk away with the unit.

Player roleChance to receive Sovereign
Host (activated the portal)100% on a successful clear
Other players in the party2%

Joining a friend’s portal is therefore a lottery ticket, not a plan. If you want Sovereign yourself, spend the four Djinn’s Treasures on your own portal and host the run. Clearing a friend’s portal as a party member also awards a Secret Unit Augment, which can raise difficulty, reward chances, and pity progress on future attempts.

How to confirm you unlocked Sovereign

Defeating the Fishman Boss triggers an animated cutscene introducing Sinbad, followed by the results screen labeled Sovereign’s Portal – Secret. The unit appears in that rewards list, and it will be sitting in your collection at Level 1 when you return to the lobby.

StatLevel 1 value
TypingStorm / Physical
Damage240
SPA4.8s
Range12.2

If the results screen appears without the unit, the usual cause is role rather than a bug. Party members roll the 2% chance and will see a normal clear reward instead. A failed run also consumes nothing but time — the portal is spent on activation, so a loss means crafting another one.

Evolving Sovereign into Sovereign (Djinn)

The base unit is fairly plain. The version worth building toward is Sovereign (Djinn), which swaps between a Lightning Djinn mode that fires five chains per attack and a Nine Tailed Fox Djinn mode that activates when a boss enters range, adding 50% damage, Freeze on hit, and a permanent 15% slow after the Freeze expires.

Head into the Evolve portal, select Sovereign, and submit the following.

Sprite (Purple)25Challenges, or craft from Grey Sprites
Sprite (Green)25Challenges, or craft from Grey Sprites
Sprite (Rainbow)3Challenges, or craft from Grey Sprites

Sand Dollars accumulate from event quests and login rewards across the Summer Siege update, so start banking them while you are still grinding portal tiers.

One naming trap worth flagging: Sovereign (Djinn) is a different unit from Dark Mage (Sovereign), an older Mythic with an ice-and-lightning Magic Cycle. Build guides written for Dark Mage do not carry over.
