Anime Vanguards 2nd Anniversary Update: Features and Release Status

The confirmed feature list, the Transcendent Sung Jin-woo reveal, and why no launch date is locked in yet.

The 2nd Anniversary update for Anime Vanguards is shaping up to be the largest single patch the Roblox tower defense game has attempted, and the developers have said as much. Instead of a normal unit drop with a dungeon attached, the plan covers reworked systems, a new lobby, a fresh unit tier, and an entirely new game mode. It is also the reason the last several patches have been deliberately small.

Quick answer: No release date is confirmed. The anniversary update is still in asset production, and the announced scope includes a Story Mode rework, a mastery system, 14 familiars, and Transcendent Sung Jin-woo.

Release status: No confirmed date for the anniversary update

There is no official launch date or time for the 2nd Anniversary update. A developer progress report explained the delay in plain terms, pointing to the volume of new assets being produced for the patch alongside real-life circumstances on the team. Until a date is posted, any countdown floating around the community is guesswork.

Recent history is the only useful reference point. Anime Vanguards launched on September 8th, 2024, but the 1st Anniversary update did not arrive on that calendar date either, landing instead on October 31st, 2025. The patch cadence since then has generally been three to five weeks apart.

Confirmed features in the 2nd Anniversary update

The developers published a goals list for the update, and it reads less like a content patch and more like a structural overhaul. These are the items stated outright:

  • Memoria customization
  • A Story Mode rework
  • An overall damage rebalance across the roster
  • A new lobby
  • A mastery system
  • 14 familiars
  • A trading card game mode

The damage rebalance is the line worth watching, since it touches units you already own rather than only the new ones. The developers have also said there are surprises in the update that have not been disclosed, so the published list is a floor rather than a ceiling.

Transcendent Sung Jin-woo and the new unit tier

The headline unit is Transcendent Sung Jin-woo, built around a new rarity that sits above the current tiers. Sneak peek footage shows full animation sequences and cutscenes attached to the unit, which is a step up from how units have typically been presented in the game. An evolution path and the shadow army are part of the design.

A second teaser focuses on the armor detailing and the dragon Kaisel, and the concept art shared alongside it shows Sung Jin-woo in full crystalline dark purple armor holding daggers. Bellion has a concept sheet as well, with large shadow wings, twin greatswords, and heavy energy effects. Igris and the Shadow Dragon mount are also covered in the art that has surfaced.

The model quality is a deliberate reset. Beru’s new sculpt has been shown side by side with the version from update 4.5, and the gap is obvious. Older renders such as Agito and Mahoraga make the same point about how the game’s visual fidelity has moved.

Familiars: Why some units are being skipped

Fourteen familiars are on the anniversary list, but the rollout will not be universal. Certain units, Shiro among them, are not getting a Vanguard Familiar because of licensing and creator issues rather than any technical or balance reason. If a unit in your roster never receives one, that is the likely explanation.

Vanguard Familiar passives have been subject to change between patches, so treat any preview numbers as provisional until the update is live.

Why the mini updates and Battle Pass exist right now

The smaller patches shipping on a roughly two-week cycle are not the main effort. They lean on recycled maps and lighter content specifically so the bulk of the team’s time can go into anniversary preparation. That is also why some recent updates have felt thinner than the numbered releases that came before them.

The Battle Pass and event passes serve the same purpose. They keep revenue flowing while a long development cycle runs in the background, which is how a free Roblox experience funds an update of this size. Season 14 runs 50 tiers and ends with Star Crusader (Platinum), shiny on the premium track.

Engagement is the other half of the picture. A pre-update concurrent player count of 8,370 sets the bar the anniversary patch is being built to clear, which is part of why the team has chosen scope over speed.

What to play until the anniversary update arrives

Update 14.5, 25th Hour, is the current release and it is substantial on its own. The Lunar Bridge dungeon runs 11 floors with a demon boss on every floor, and Demon Familiars drop from those bosses for units in the Demon Controller category. Alongside it are the Codex, an in-game reference you can search and rotate models in, and Gauntlets, the 8-player bracket mode with replays.

Odyssey is the other mode worth time while you wait, with its card draft between runs and the Odyssey Outrage event currently in rotation. You can jump into the game through the Anime Vanguards experience page on Roblox.

Until the developers post a date, the practical approach is to bank Trait Rerolls and Memoria Shards from the current dungeon, Gauntlet payouts, and the Battle Pass. A roster-wide damage rebalance is coming, so hoarding upgrade materials is a safer play than sinking everything into one unit that may land in a different place after the anniversary patch.
