Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced: How to Get the Grand Cayman Chest

The Grand Cayman chest only opens after Edward drinks himself unconscious at the tavern, not through normal exploration.

The Grand Cayman chest only opens after Edward drinks himself unconscious at the tavern, not through normal exploration.

The chest in Grand Cayman is one of the few in Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced that you cannot reach by climbing, swimming, or fighting your way in. It sits next to a drunken man near the viewpoint, and the only path to it runs through the local tavern. This is logged in the region as a Secret rather than a standard chest, which is why it slips past players who rely on exploration alone.

Quick answer: Buy and drink five ales at the Grand Cayman tavern (25 Reales each, 125 Reales total). Edward passes out and wakes up beside the chest, which you can then loot.

What you need before starting

Grand Cayman sits in the Cruz region, at map coordinates near 361, 300. Fast travel there using the synchronized viewpoint once it is unlocked. You do not need any special gear, only enough coin on hand to cover the drinks.

The clue: the arguing couple near the viewpoint

When you arrive in Grand Cayman, you will see and hear a drunken man beside a couple arguing close to the viewpoint. The wife scolds him for not remembering his night, and he insists he only had five cups and blames the tavern’s ale. As Edward walks past, he mutters that he would like to try whatever the man is drinking. That single line is the game’s entire hint. There is no marker pointing you to the chest, and no way to climb across to it directly.

How to trigger the Grand Cayman chest

Head to the tavern nearby. It is a short run along the wooden docks and walkways of the settlement from where you spawn at the viewpoint.
Approach the tavern counter and speak to the bartender. Use the on-screen prompt to buy a drink for 25 Reales. Edward downs it and the screen begins to blur.
Buy four more drinks, one at a time, for five total. Each round distorts the screen further until the fifth drink fades everything to black and Edward passes out.

After the blackout, Edward wakes up on the ground under a pile of palm leaves behind the drunken man, well away from the tavern. The locked chest is directly to his side.
Walk up to the chest and use the loot prompt to kick it open and claim the contents.

How to confirm it worked

Two things confirm success. When Edward passes out and wakes in the leaves, the game unlocks the bronze trophy Hungover. When you open the chest, a Secrets notification with a checkmark appears on the right side of the screen, marking the Grand Cayman Secret as collected. The reward is the Art Piece known as the Yoke-Form Vessel.

Note: If nothing happens at the counter, you have not finished all five drinks. The blackout only triggers on the fifth, so keep buying until the screen goes fully dark. Trying to reach the drunken man or the chest on foot will not work, since the passout sequence is the only way the game places you next to it.

This is one of two chests recorded in Grand Cayman. The other sits on the southwest side of the map, reached by jumping into the water and swimming through an opening, and it opens through ordinary looting. The tavern chest is the only one tied to the drinking interaction, so treat it as a separate objective when you clean up the region’s collectibles.
