The Sage’s Buried Secret sends Edward Kenway and James Kidd deep into a Mayan temple, and the only way forward is a set of statue puzzles built around lowering colored figureheads into matching floor slots. There is no combat to fall back on here. You solve each room by climbing onto the right block at the right time, and by rotating a floor wheel so the colors line up.
Quick answer: Lower each colored statue onto the floor tile of the same color. In the wheel rooms, spin the lever until the matching tile sits under a statue, then climb the statue to press it down. In the final room, use the counterweight beside a statue to lift it off a wrong-colored slot before rotating the wheel again.

How the statue puzzles work
Every puzzle in this mission follows one rule. Each raised statue must drop into the floor slot that shares its color. Standing on a statue with Edward’s weight pushes it down, and each statue that lands in the correct slot removes one layer of the locked wall ahead.
Two extra mechanics appear as you go. A rotating floor wheel, color-coded blue, red, and green, spins the slots around so you can bring the right tile under the right statue. A stone counterweight next to a statue lifts it back up when it has landed on the wrong color, which lets you free it and try again.

Follow Kidd through the ruins until you reach a chamber with two ornate statues raised above their slots. As Kidd crosses the wooden bridge, it collapses under her feet.

Puzzle 2: Rotate the floor wheel
This room introduces the spinning floor. A wheel with a central lever sits on the ground, and the floor is split into blue, red, and green sections. Your goal is still to lower the raised statue onto its matching tile.

The following room is broken, so drop into the large hole with Kidd and swim through the flooded tunnels. Stay close to her to find the air pockets, and watch the blue air meter so you keep topping it up before it runs out. Surface in the cavern and platform your way up to the temple.
Puzzle 3: Free the wrong-colored statues and set all three
At the top of the temple, the final puzzle starts in a tangled state. Two statues already sit on the wrong colored slots, and the green statue is raised but can only reach the blue part of the disk from its current spot. You need the counterweight next to a statue to lift it clear before the wheel can help.

Setting all three statues triggers a cutscene between Kidd and Kenway, which ends the mission.
Color and slot quick reference
| Puzzle | What to do |
|---|---|
| Puzzle 1 | Stand on the red statue, then the blue statue, to remove both wall layers. |
| Puzzle 2 | Turn the wheel one turn counterclockwise so the red tile sits under the red statue, then press it down. |
| Puzzle 3 | Counterweight the blue statue up, set it on blue. Free the red statue, then match red and green to their own slots. |
If a statue will not lower, it is sitting over a tile that does not match its color. Rotate the wheel until the colors agree, or use the counterweight to lift a statue that has landed on the wrong slot. Once every color matches and all doors are open, the quest completes and hands off to the next mission, Overrun and Outnumbered.
