Kunos Simulazioni's open-world Eifel mode arrives in early access with Release 0.10, starting with the Nordschleife and its surrounding villages.

Kunos Simulazioni’s open-world Eifel mode arrives in early access with Release 0.10, starting with the Nordschleife and its surrounding villages.

Assetto Corsa EVO is about to leave the circuit. Kunos Simulazioni and 505 Games have dated Free Roam, the open-world mode that has been promised since before the game entered early access. It ships as part of Release 0.10, an early access update for the Steam version. The new trailer leans on the tagline “Where Simulation Meets Freedom” and ends with a single date card.

Quick answer: Free Roam launches in Assetto Corsa EVO with Release 0.10 on December 9, 2026, on Steam. No exact release time has been announced.

What Free Roam is in Assetto Corsa EVO

Free Roam recreates Germany’s Eifel region at a 1:1 scale, encompassing the area around the Nürburgring and its 20.8 km Nordschleife. Kunos is creating a real-world map, not an imaginary one. Its roads are designed to have the same lengths and widths as those on the ground, while the bends, hairpins, intersections, bridges and changes in altitude follow the real terrain. The complete Eifel recreation is expected to span about 1,600 square kilometers.

Release 0.10 does not deliver all of that at once. The first playable area covers the Nordschleife, the villages around it and the roads that link them. Kunos plans to add more of the Eifel through several further updates after December. You can also leave the asphalt and drive off-road.

December 9 marks the first phase of Free Roam, not a finished open world. The map is designed to grow in later early access releases.

Free Roam features confirmed for Release 0.10

The initial build has more systems than a bare driving sandbox. Kunos has confirmed these for launch:

  • A world map that marks points of interest, fuel stations and tyre replacement centres
  • Refueling and tyre changes at those locations
  • Point-to-point Time Attack events with online leaderboards
  • Changeable weather and a full day and night cycle
  • Variable AI traffic based on local traffic patterns
  • Solo play and online multiplayer, with dedicated modes for groups

Multiplayer will be available at launch, but Kunos has not yet explained how sessions work. More details are expected closer to December. Time Attack runs and other world events are optional, so you can simply drive around the region if you prefer.

Earlier plans also described renting cars, fitting aftermarket parts and dealing with local businesses inside the world. None of those are confirmed for Release 0.10.

What the Free Roam release date trailer shows

The trailer runs about a minute and a half and is labeled as in-game footage for almost its entire length. It opens in a branded showroom with tight shots of a yellow Lamborghini Temerario: badges, wheels, headlights and the engine start button.

From there the camera moves onto public roads. A cockpit view shows the digital dashboard, with speed, gear, revs, boost and tyre status. Chase shots follow the car at speed through dense forest, which is the kind of road Free Roam is built around.

A red Lamborghini Countach then joins the yellow car, and the two run side by side on the country road. It is a small hint that cars can share the open roads, though the trailer does not say whether that scene shows multiplayer or AI.

After the title card, an overhead shot sweeps across rural junctions and then cuts to an aerial view of the track. That shift from public road to circuit is the core idea of the mode. The Nordschleife is no longer a separate track. It sits inside a map you can drive in and out of.

The final scene is the most telling. The Temerario rolls through a European village and stops at a zebra crossing while pedestrians walk past. Animated people on sidewalks and crossings show that the towns are more than scenery. The release date card, “Release 0.10 coming December 9,” appears over this shot.

Assetto Corsa EVO Free Roam timeline

Free Roam has been part of the pitch since early access began, and it has slipped more than once. The table lists the key dates in order.

DateMilestone
January 16, 2025Early access launch on Steam
Summer 2025Original Free Roam target, missed
Late 2025Delayed to early 2026
January 2026Eifel teaser trailer
October 7, 2026Full keynote reveal
October 16–18, 2026Playable at SimRacing Expo, Frankfurt
December 9, 2026Release 0.10 with Free Roam

The early 2026 target also passed without a release. A work-in-progress build is on the show floor at SimRacing Expo in Frankfurt this weekend, across several stations. It follows a main-stage introduction from Kunos co-founder Marco Massarutto on October 16. That public demo is the first time anyone outside the studio has driven the mode.

Getting Free Roam on Steam

Assetto Corsa EVO is available now in early access on Steam, and Release 0.10 will arrive as an update to that version. Owners do not need a separate purchase or launcher for Free Roam. No other platform has been announced for the mode.

Once the update is live, the version number in your Steam library should change to 0.10, and Free Roam should appear as a new mode in the game. Kunos has not shared a release time for December 9, so the exact hour will likely be confirmed closer to the date.
