One additional locked Strongbox, in the Abandoned Village of the Ogouchi Buffer Zone, does not use a numeric or directional code at all. It opens with the Red Key received during the “Path to the Sealed Lair” objective, which unlocks the door leading to that chest.
How to enter a Strongbox code
Locked Strongboxes come in two forms. Some use a numeric dial with five digits, while others use a sequence of directional inputs that must be pressed within a short time limit.
The lock panel closes and the Strongbox lid opens automatically once the correct code or sequence is entered, dropping its contents for pickup on the spot.
Where Strongbox codes come from
Not every Strongbox in the world needs a code. Only a select group of them are locked, and their codes are earned by defeating the Elite Enemy guarding that area or by progressing through the main story. There is no separate code-entry menu outside the chest itself, and no code carries over between different Strongboxes since each one is set to its own unique combination.
New locked Strongboxes tend to surface as more zones open up, so it’s worth checking back on this list whenever a fresh area becomes reachable.
