Blox Fruits Update 30: How to Complete Upper Skylands for 3 Stars

All three Upper Skylands secrets, from the temple beam puzzle to the Lightning God, and how each star is claimed.

All three Upper Skylands secrets, from the temple beam puzzle to the Lightning God, and how each star is claimed.

Upper Skylands is one of the trickier islands to clear in the Update 30 secrets hunt, mostly because two of its three objectives only exist while a server event is running. The temple puzzle can be done any time you land there. The Sky Warlord and the Lightning God cannot — they need the storm and the bell to show up first, and both are on an hourly timer that picks a random Sea 1 island.

Quick answer: Solve the temple beam puzzle and hand the Intel to Sky Quest Giver 2 for star one, break the dark clouds and kill Sky Warlord (Awakened) [Lv. 500] during the storm event for star two, then ring the golden bell with the matching weapon type and kill Lightning God (Awakened) [Lv. 575] during the bell event, finishing with the Commander NPC for star three.

What you need before starting Upper Skylands

Upper Skylands sits above the regular Skylands and is reached through a portal there, so you need to be able to get up to the cloud islands first. Bring enough damage for two awakened bosses at level 500 and level 575, and make sure you have both a sword and a fighting style available — the bell in the third secret asks for specific attack types and you cannot swap that requirement.

Each secret you finish awards a star, and stars grant secret levels that push you past the normal 2,800 grinding cap toward the new 3,000 ceiling. Clearing all three on an island also unlocks it as a destination for the teleporter in Middle Town.

Event timing: why the boss secrets are not always available

Island boss events fire every hour at the XX:00 mark and land on one random Sea 1 island. That means Upper Skylands will not host an event every hour, and you may need to sit through several rotations or hop servers before the right one lands there.

Two server messages tell you which secret is live. The storm one reads: “The wind has died. The clouds have stopped moving. A storm brews in upper skylands…” The bell one reads: “The storm has gone quiet. The sky is gathering itself. The bell shimmers in upper skylands…” If neither notification has appeared, the boss is not spawnable and nothing on the island will react to you.

Star 1: Solve the temple light beam puzzle

Find Sky Quest Giver 2 on the second island of Upper Skylands and open his dialogue. Take the temple quest — the option has shown up worded as both “The old temple” and “The Ancient Temple” — which points you at the large pyramid temple nearby.
Head to the temple and drop down the vertical shaft at the entrance. There is a stone barrier blocking the way in at the bottom of the steps; break it with any attack to open the inner chamber.

In the gold room you will see six pillars arranged in a ring, each firing a beam of light. Hit or click each pillar to rotate it until every beam links to the next one and the circle closes. A short cinematic plays once the ring is complete.
Grab the Intel and leave. The objective text switches to telling you to get out from under the stone and run, and a storm kicks in during the trip back with lightning striking the ground around you. Follow the marker back up to the quest giver.

After the puzzle solves, the objective switches to escaping with the Intel toward the yellow marker.
Talk to Sky Quest Giver 2 and pick “Hand over the Intel” rather than “I’ll hold onto it”. The storm clears and the first star registers.

Star 2: Break the clouds and beat Sky Warlord

Wait for the storm notification, then travel to the temple with the red banners. The boss is standing there but will not take damage yet.
Look up. A cluster of dark clouds floats above the temple and acts as a shield. Attack the clouds until they break — this is the part most people miss, since the boss simply ignores hits until the cover is gone.

Kill Sky Warlord (Awakened) [Lv. 500] now that it is vulnerable, then take your roll on the reward spinner that appears.
Speak to the NPC standing near the temple to bank the second star. Skipping this conversation leaves the secret unfinished even though the boss is dead.

Star 3: Ring the golden bell and beat Lightning God

Wait for the bell notification, then climb to the giant golden bell at the top of the island. It only reacts while the event is active.

Hit the bell with basic attacks and watch the icon that appears on it. A sword icon means you strike with a sword equipped, and a fist icon means you strike with your fighting style. Keep matching the prompts until the summon triggers.
A cinematic plays and Lightning God (Awakened) [Lv. 575] drops in, with God’s Guard enemies around the area. Take the boss down and spin the reward wheel.

Find the Commander NPC and talk to him. The island flashes “UPPER SKYLANDS COMPLETED” and the third star locks in.

Why an Upper Skylands secret is not completing

If a star has not appeared, it is almost always one of a handful of things. The list below covers the ones that actually block completion.

  • You killed the boss but never spoke to the NPC afterwards — the star only registers on the dialogue.
  • Sky Warlord is taking no damage because the dark clouds above the temple are still intact.
  • The bell is not summoning anything because you are hitting it with the wrong attack type for the icon shown.
  • No event is running on the island — the hourly XX:00 spawn went to a different Sea 1 island.
  • You chose “I’ll hold onto it” instead of “Hand over the Intel” at the end of the temple puzzle.

The most efficient way to run the island is to clear the temple puzzle the moment you arrive, since it has no timer attached, then park yourself in Upper Skylands and watch the hourly notifications. Once both boss events have rotated through, the island is done and it becomes a teleporter destination back in Middle Town.
