Borderlands 4: How to Complete The Furious Earth on Providence Island

Every geyser location, the Volcanus mini-boss fight, and how the Pyroclastic Punishment challenge completes.

The Furious Earth is a world event on Providence Island, the jungle region added with Story Pack 2: FL4K and the Last Resort. It runs across the volcanic Pyroclast Field and spills into the neighbouring Vinechoked Canopy, and it asks for one thing repeatedly: shut down the scalding geysers erupting across the island.

Quick answer: Clear all six scalding geysers. At each one, kill the waves of fire and ice creatures that spawn, then kill the mini-boss Volcanus. When the sixth geyser is cleared, the event ends and the Pyroclastic Punishment challenge completes.

Requirements before the event can appear

Providence Island is paid content. You need Story Pack 2: FL4K and the Last Resort, which arrived alongside the Version 1.10 update and is sold separately on the official Borderlands 4 site and the usual storefronts. Without it, none of this content exists in your game.

To get to the island itself, open your Kairos map and track the DLC mission FL4K and the Last Resort in the Terminus Range. Head to the terminal at the base there, accept the mission, then use the travel pod marked Providence Island. You arrive in a pod inside the Vinechoked Canopy jungle. From there, the Pyroclast Field sits to the volcanic side of the island, and the FOB Staging Grounds fast travel point is the closest practical launch spot for the event.

The volcano on Providence is active and throws Ordonite-infused lava across the island, including molten rocks that spawn mini-bosses where they land. The Furious Earth is built on top of that behaviour, which is why the fights repeat at every geyser.

How clearing a geyser works

Each geyser is a small arena fight with a fixed pattern. Approach the vent, and the objective switches to “Clear geyser.” Waves of elemental wildlife pour in, mostly fire and ice pangolins plus fengolin raptors, and once they are dealt with, Volcanus spawns. Volcanus is the gate. The geyser does not count as cleared until it goes down, no matter how many of the smaller enemies you kill.

Volcanus is a fire mini-boss and appears at every geyser, so bring something that does not rely on burn damage. Elemental variety helps more here than raw single-element output, since the same fight mixes fire and ice enemies.

Clearing all six geysers

Fast travel to FOB Staging Grounds in the Pyroclast Field and open the map. The active event is marked, and the nearest uncleared geyser carries its own objective marker. Track it before you set off so the waypoint stays on your HUD through the smoke and ash.
Move to the first geyser on foot and start the fight. Badass pangolins take the front line here, so clear them out before pushing into the vent, then finish Volcanus when it spawns.

Head to the second geyser, a short run from the first. The “Clear geyser” objective reappears in your tracker, and this wave mixes in fengolin raptors that close distance fast. Killing Volcanus here also ticks the first visible step of the Pyroclastic Punishment challenge.

Call in a Cyclone for the third geyser onward. The distances between vents get long, and the hover vehicle handles the broken lava terrain far better than sprinting. Dismount just outside the vent so the fight starts on your terms.

Repeat the same routine at the fourth and fifth geysers. Nothing changes mechanically, but the enemies scale with the region, and level 53 badass pangolins are common by this point. Ride between the two rather than walking.

Drive through the Vinechoked Canopy to reach the last geyser. This one sits above the ground route, so use the vehicle to cover the distance and your grappling lash to pull yourself up to the vent. Kill the final Volcanus to end the event.

How to confirm the event completed

Two things confirm it. The Furious Earth stops showing as an active objective and appears as completed when you open the Providence Island map, and the Pyroclastic Punishment challenge, “Slay beasts from the volcano,” registers as finished. If the challenge is still short, a geyser has been left standing somewhere on the route.

The most common reason the event stalls is leaving before Volcanus dies. Trash waves can be cleared without the objective resolving, so check that the “Clear geyser” line disappears from your tracker before you mount up and move to the next marker.

Note: world events on Kairos despawn if you ignore them, and it is worth treating this one the same way. Once the marker is up, work through the geysers in a single run rather than detouring into other Providence activities.

Beyond that, the run is deterministic. Six vents, six Volcanus fights, a hover vehicle to cut the travel time, and the grapple for the final climb. The only real variable is how quickly you can put down a fire mini-boss six times in a row.
