Borderlands 4: How to Complete The Rescue (FL4K and the Last Resort)

Every objective in the final Story Pack 2 mission, from the three digigauntlets to the Lieutenant Harmony choice.

“The Rescue” is the closing mission of Borderlands 4‘s Story Pack 2, FL4K and the Last Resort. It sends you to a Tediore fortress built into a volcano on Providence Island, with Mr. Chew as your guide, to pull FL4K out of a containment field. It is flagged as a Hard mission, and it ends with a choice that a lot of players get wrong by accident.

Quick answer: Instruct Mr. Chew in The Upper Crust, drive to the FOB Staging Grounds, survive the Tediore waves to collect three Brand Manager Digigauntlets and place them in the gate console, then inside Tediore FOB Bravo Lima 4.2 hack the Ordonite Replicator, plant unstable Ordonite in the dropships, beat Lieutenant Harmony, and press the console button to release FL4K.

The Rescue mission requirements and rewards

The mission has an ownership gate that matters in co-op. Everyone in the session needs the content, or the objectives will not advance for the group.

Story Pack 2 launched on September 10, 2026 alongside Loveless the Hacker and Bounty Pack 5. If you have not started the campaign yet, the opening mission “The Skag and the Robot” becomes available after the fourth main story mission, “A Lot to Process,” and can be picked up at the Bones of Sanctuary in the Heart of the Mountain.

Starting The Rescue: Instruct Mr. Chew and reach the Volcano Fortress

Open the Providence Island map and fast travel to The Blind. This is the closest station to Mr. Chew and saves you a long run across the resort grounds.
Head into The Upper Crust and find Mr. Chew. Interact with him to complete the “Instruct Mr. Chew” objective, which starts the assault and updates the tracker to “Go to Volcano Fortress.”
Fast travel to Pyroclast Field, spawn a hover vehicle, and drive toward the FOB Staging Grounds. Mr. Chew meets you at the fortress gates.

Talk to Mr. Chew at the gates to trigger the siege. The objective changes to “Kill Tediore with Mr. Chew and friends,” and the pack of beasts fights alongside you for the whole sequence.
Hold the staging grounds through the waves. Tediore infantry, exoskeleton mechs, and hostile local fauna all push in, and the soldiers can cloak or throw down cover, so clear the mech operators first.

After each wave, speak to Mr. Chew and pick up the dropped Brand Manager Digigauntlet. You need three of these hands in total, and the objectives cycle through “Confer with Mr. Chew” and “Take hands from Mr. Chew” between fights.
Carry the gauntlets to the console beside the fortress door and complete the “Place the hands” objective. All three slots must be filled before the gate unlocks and you can enter the volcano base.

Inside Tediore FOB Bravo Lima 4.2: Ziplines and the Ordonite bomb

Enter the Volcano Base to load into Tediore FOB Bravo Lima 4.2. The interior is a series of platforms suspended over lava, and the objective becomes “Rescue FL4K” with “Kill Tediore” running underneath it.

Push forward until you reach FL4K, who is held in a containment field. Lieutenant Harmony blocks the release at this point, so the fight cannot start yet and the mission redirects you upward.

Use the Ziprunner grapple ziplines to move around the upper base and collect Ordonite along the route. The ziplines are the only practical way across these gaps, so look for the anchor points rather than trying to jump.
Complete the “Create Ordonite Bomb” chain. Hack the Ordonite Replicator, grab the unstable Ordonite it produces, and place it in the dropships. Destroying the dropships is what clears the way for the boss encounter.

Lieutenant Harmony boss fight: Kill or spare

Harmony fights you in a mech suit, and her arena reuses the lava platform layout, so watch your footing while she repositions. Once her health is gone, she is downed rather than dead, and the mission hands you the choice.

The two prompts are “Kill LT Harmony” and “Spare LT Harmony,” and the inputs are easy to mix up in the heat of the fight.

ChoiceWhat you doOutcome
SparePick up her hand before shooting herShe stands up and teleports away
KillShoot or punch her anywhere on the body or headShe dies on the spot

The loot is identical either way. Neither option locks you out of the Legendary or Pearlescent drops tied to the encounter, so the decision only changes how her story ends. It is also permanent for that playthrough, with no way to reverse it afterward.

Note: The spare option only appears the first time. On repeat runs of the fight, killing her is the only outcome available.

Releasing FL4K and confirming the mission completed

With Harmony handled, the tracker switches to “Push button to release FL4K.” Interact with the console, then follow the “Break shit!” objective to wreck the containment controls so the field drops.

You know it worked when the “Talk to FL4K” prompt appears and the closing cinematic plays, showing FL4K reunited with the beasts. Mission completion and the Sniper Rifle and Vault Hunter Head rewards are handed out at the end of that cutscene, not at the boss kill, so do not leave the area early.

Farming Lieutenant Harmony after The Rescue

Harmony is repeatable. Travel back to Tediore FOB Bravo Lima 4.2 and use the Moxxi’s Encore station sitting right next to the fast travel point to reset the fight as many times as you want. That is the route for grinding her drop table, which feeds into the pack’s 18 Legendary items, two Pearlescents, and the Legendary class mod for each Vault Hunter.

The mission is long by Story Pack standards, mostly because the gate sequence and the Ordonite bomb both gate progress behind full combat waves. If you are running it in a group, sort out the ownership requirement before anyone loads in, since that is the one thing a walkthrough cannot fix mid-mission.
