A beat-by-beat breakdown of the chamber door scene in Story Pack 2 and the objective that follows it.

The reunion between FL4K and Mr. Chew is the first real turning point in Borderlands 4‘s Story Pack 2, FL4K and the Last Resort. It plays out as a single unbroken sequence that starts with a door panel, ends with a dropship, and hands control back to you with a very different mission than the one you walked in with.

Quick answer: Interact with the panel to open the chamber door. Mr. Chew is freed, Lieutenant Harmony appears as a hologram, grid beams digitize FL4K into a nearby container, and a dropship carries it off. You regain control with the objective Confer with Mr. Chew, which completes once you interact with the skag.

How the FL4K and Mr. Chew cutscene is triggered

Nothing here is optional or missable. You approach the control panel outside the sealed chamber and interact with it, and the door begins to open. FL4K speaks directly to the Vault Hunter as the sequence starts, and the game takes over from there.

Mr. Chew leaps out of the chamber to greet FL4K, and the game cuts to a character intro title card reading FL4K AND MR. CHEW INSEPARABLE! — the same style of splash used for major character introductions elsewhere in the series.

Lieutenant Harmony’s ambush and FL4K’s capture

The reunion lasts about ten seconds. Lieutenant Harmony appears as a hologram, shouting orders, and digital grid beams sweep the area. The beams lock onto FL4K, digitize the Beastmaster, and force them into a container standing nearby.

The container seals, then lifts off the ground as a dropship hauls it into the sky and banks away toward the mountains in the distance. The Vault Hunter cannot intervene, and the scene does not branch — the outcome is fixed no matter which character you are playing.

Once the dropship is clear, the Vault Hunter — Rafa, in this playthrough — teleports back into normal form next to Mr. Chew. The two of them are left watching the ship leave, which is the last frame before gameplay resumes.

Confer with Mr. Chew: What to do after the cutscene

Gameplay picks up right where the cutscene left off, with the tracker pointing at the skag standing a few steps away. Walk up to Mr. Chew and use the interact prompt. There is no fight, no timer, and nothing else to clear first.

You know it worked when the objective text clears and the mission advances. Weapon drops are scattered around the area at this point, so it is worth sweeping the floor for loot before you move on — the gear stays put while you talk to the skag.

Note: if the objective refuses to tick over, it is almost always because you are picking up loot instead of standing close enough to trigger Mr. Chew’s own interact prompt. The skag is the interactable, not the container or the door panel behind you.

Where this scene sits in FL4K and the Last Resort

Story Pack 2 opens with FL4K explaining that Tediore has taken their skag companion, and it drops the Vault Hunter on an overgrown resort built on a volcanic island where the corporation has begun a covert invasion. The rescue is meant to be the payoff. Instead, freeing Mr. Chew hands Tediore a better prize, and the Beastmaster who was leading the Hunt becomes the thing you are hunting for.

FL4K is a focal-point NPC here rather than a playable Vault Hunter, which is why the scene is built around the player watching them get taken. The expansion’s new playable character is Loveless the Hacker, released alongside the pack.

The scene is short, but it resets the entire premise of the expansion in under a minute. You came to the island to bring back a skag, and you leave the chamber with the skag intact and the Beastmaster gone — which is exactly what the mission tracker is telling you when it asks you to talk to Mr. Chew.
