Paris in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 is the setting for a getaway. Traffic, the campaign’s Paris mission, has Captain John Price riding with Valeria Garza and her crew as they move a locked case across the city. Rival gangs and riot police try to stop them for most of the drive. Most of the mission is spent in or on top of vehicles, and a full run takes about 18 minutes from the opening shot of the Eiffel Tower to the final cutscene.
Quick answer: Traffic ranks sixth in the Modern Warfare 4 campaign. You take the role of John Price in Paris, three days ahead of the main events, accompanying Valeria as you escort a package and evade the French Mafia and UCTF police.
Traffic mission details in Modern Warfare 4
The mission opens with a title card that reads “3 Days Ago / TRAFFIC / JOHN PRICE.” That card places it in the flashback part of the campaign, and the chapter header around it frames the Paris job as happening three days before the invasion.
| Detail | Traffic |
|---|---|
| Campaign position | Mission 6 |
| Comes after | Losing Ground |
| Comes before | Gone Dark |
| Location | Paris, France |
| Playable character | Captain John Price |
| Allies | Valeria, Luca, Gordo, Eduardo |
| Enemies | French Mafia, UCTF police |
| Co-op | No, single-player only |
Some early mission listings name Luca as the playable character. In the mission itself, the title card credits Price, and every playable section is seen through his eyes. Luca drives the decoy van and is never the one holding the gun.

Add to Google Preferences →Traffic story setup: Price, Valeria and the package
By this point Price is off the books. He has killed Shepherd, Ghost and Gaz have been told to hunt him, and Valeria Garza of Las Almas is now his ally. CIA officer Kate Laswell is still his contact. Traffic shows how strained those links have become.
The opening cutscene is set in an enclosed courtyard. Valeria’s crew loads cargo into a yellow Livraposte Express delivery van and a black sedan. Price then checks an encrypted chat on his phone. A message from an “UNKNOWN” sender, Laswell, says “Graves is dead.” Price replies “I know.” She follows up with “Where are you?” He doesn’t answer before the convoy rolls out.
The job is to get a locked case, referred to only as the package, out of Paris. Later missions show it holds a cylindrical device that Valeria sets off as an EMP in Mumbai. The convoy barely reaches the street before pursuing cars box it in and French Mafia gunmen open fire. Police radio traffic is labeled “UCTF Dispatch,” “UCTF Officer,” and “UCTF Pilot,” which identifies the second faction you deal with.
Every phase of the Paris mission
Traffic switches between playstyles every few minutes. It runs in a single line through central Paris and onto the motorway, with checkpoints between each phase.
Window shooting through the boulevards
Gordo drives while Price rides in the back. A prompt, “PRESS [RMB] TO LEAN OUT THE WINDOW,” turns the car into a moving firing position. With an M4 you pick off motorcycles and sedans as the chase moves along the Seine past the Quai de l’Hôtel de Ville.

Tunnel du Paix crash and firefight
Radio chatter calls out the Tunnel du Paix just before the convoy enters it. Inside, the pursuers cause a pileup that flips the sedan. Gordo dies and Eduardo is pinned down. Valeria takes Gordo’s radio, and you climb out on foot.

Price and Valeria then fight down the tunnel lanes through waves of French Mafia gunmen, using the stalled cars as cover, until they reach the damaged yellow van.

Armored truck drive through tunnels, a park and an arcade
At the van, Valeria splits the group. Luca and Eduardo take the van as a decoy, while Price takes a heavy armored police truck. Valeria rides up top in the roof hatch.

Driving uses the keyboard prompt “HOLD [W] TO DRIVE AND [S] TO BRAKE/REVERSE.” The truck rams cars out of the tunnel and onto the city streets. You don’t shoot while you drive; Valeria handles that from the hatch and calls out the route.

To avoid roadblocks, Valeria sends you through iron park gates and across paths, grass and plazas while motorbikes chase you. After that the truck smashes through an indoor shopping arcade to break the helicopter’s line of sight. It comes out on raised streets, where an enemy vehicle hits it and it rolls over a retaining wall into an alley.

Street combat toward the Arc de Triomphe
Price and Valeria crawl out of the wreck and fight on foot along a rain-slicked boulevard. Objective markers read “Keep up with Valeria.” and “Follow Valeria.” There are snipers on the ledges above, riot shield enemies in the street, and gunmen behind parked cars and café fronts. A blue police van works as a resupply point with ammo, armor plates, flash grenades and the FINN LMG. Valeria then leads a flank through an arched corridor and a courtyard. The push moves up Rue de Mont-Gabor toward an armored turret vehicle, with the Arc de Triomphe visible ahead.
Highway van defense with C4
Luca shows up in the bullet-riddled Livraposte van, and Price and Valeria jump into the cargo bay. On the wet motorway, with road signs for Nice, Cannes and Saint-Tropez, police cruisers, SUVs, vans and a helicopter follow. You fire out of the open rear doors with the M4 and FINN LMG and throw C4 from a duffel bag, setting each charge off with “PRESS [G] TO DETONATE C4.” Near the end, a “Pick up the C4” objective appears, and C4 thrown under the lead armored truck flips it.
Decoy vans and the knife to Valeria’s throat
Luca drives into an underpass where two more identical yellow vans pull in beside him. All three split up when they come out, which leaves the police helicopter with no way to know which one to follow. In the switch car afterwards, Price holds a tactical knife to Valeria’s throat and demands access to “the Archer.” The mission ends at a desert airstrip at sunset. Laswell, standing at the Paris crime scene, calls Price about his work with the cartel before he gets on a private jet.
Weapons and equipment used in Traffic
| Item | Type | Where it shows up |
|---|---|---|
| M4 ASSAULT RIFLE | Assault rifle | Car chase onward |
| AXION ASSAULT RIFLE | Assault rifle | Street combat pickup |
| KRAIT P68 PISTOL | Pistol | Street combat |
| FINN LMG | Light machine gun | Police van, highway |
| FLASH GRENADE | Tactical | Police van |
| C4 | Explosive | Highway van defense |
| Armor plates | Armor | Police van |
Armor is applied with the “[F] USE ARMOR” prompt. The FINN LMG is the most useful pickup here, since it carries over from the street fight into the motorway section, where you face a steady stream of vehicles.
Civilian casualty fail state in Traffic
Paris is full of bystanders, and Traffic punishes stray shots. If you hit a civilian, the mission ends at once with this screen.
TRY AGAIN
YOU KILLED A CIVILIAN. WATCH YOUR FIRE!
It can happen in two places in particular. One is the on-foot street fight, where civilians mix in with snipers and gunmen. The other is the highway chase, where crossfire can hit a civilian car. Either way the game sends you back to the most recent checkpoint, marked by the “CHECKPOINT REACHED” notice, so you replay only that section and not the whole mission.
Modern Warfare 4 campaign access and release date
The Modern Warfare 4 campaign has 16 missions, with difficulty options from Regular through Hardened, Veteran, Realism and YOLO. Early access opened on October 16, 2026, and the full release is set for October 23, 2026. Traffic falls between Losing Ground, a South Korean street battle that ends with a bridge collapse, and Gone Dark, where Price and Valeria take the package to Mumbai and Ghost catches up with him.
Traffic is where Price’s split loyalties take over the campaign’s story. He works with Laswell while protecting a cartel shipment and, by the end, threatens his own ally over the Archer. The mission is mostly set pieces, but it explains why the device ends up in Mumbai and why Price is willing to cross both Valeria and Laswell to get it there.
