The Whisperer is the Arcana tied to the Ferryman, and earning it hands Rose the Freezing Path spell. You do not fight for this card directly. Instead you recover a coin that a thieving demon stole from the Ferryman, then carry it back to him so he can bless you with the card. Reaching that coin means collecting three Eye relics and breaking a sealed door in the Catacombs of Paris.
Quick answer: Equip the Thrilling, Oozing, and Trembling Eye relics to open the Gate of Flesh, beat Mammon in his lair, take the Ferryman’s Obol from the gold hoard, then hand it to the Ferryman at Ferryman’s Wharf to receive The Whisperer.
The quest starts with the Ferryman himself. At one point, talking to him at a wharf opens with “My coins! Have you seen my coins?” He goes on: “Yes! The fares the dead give me for passage from this world. Someone has stolen them!” and “The souls of Paris cannot cross into the underworld without their tolls of passage!” The Ferryman’s Obol in Mammon’s hoard is that stolen fare.

Three Eye relics you need first
The Gate of Flesh that guards Mammon’s Lair stays shut until all three Eye relics are equipped at once. Each relic sits in a different zone, so gather them before heading to the gate.

| Relic | Zone | Area |
|---|---|---|
| Paris Streets | Hospital (upper shelf) | |
| Catacombs of Paris | Circle of Greed altar | |
| Holy Innocents’ Cemetery | Pillaged Tombs |
Thrilling Eye in Paris Streets
Open your map to Paris Streets and head for the Hospital interior. Cross the rooftops near the Street of the Tomb Masons, drop inside, and clear the skeletons blocking the climb. The relic sits in a container on the upper floor of the Hospital.

At the top, use the eye altar to obtain the Trembling Eye, completing the set.

With all three relics in hand, return to the Catacombs of Paris and reach the Gate of Flesh from the Circle of Greed. The gate only responds once every Eye relic is slotted at the same time.

Return the Obol at Ferryman’s Wharf
The closest Ferryman’s Wharf is only a brief return journey from the lair. Exit through Circle of Greed, then take Antechamber of Sin, Realm of Old Night, and Collapsed Path of Orpheus in sequence. A blue-lit doorway at that path’s far end leads to the foggy pier, where the Ferryman sits in his boat.

Press R1 (E on PC) to speak with him. Rose tells him the coins were found in the catacombs, and when she names Mammon as the thief, the Ferryman accepts the obol. A golden orb then follows you; interact with it to take the card.
Any wharf works for the handover, not just the one by the Collapsed Path of Orpheus, so hand over the coin at whichever one is closest.
Confirm the card and equip Freezing Path
The orb awards you The Whisperer, whose spell is Freezing Path. On its card screen, the prompts are HOLD TO EQUIP and CONTINUE. To add it to your rotation, enter EQUIPMENT, select ARCANAS, and equip The Whisperer. After adding the card to your collection and equipping it, you have confirmation of the reward.

For 3 seconds, Freezing Path grants Rose intangibility and increased movement speed; enemies she runs through are frozen.
The Whisperer stats, Works of Mercy, and Gifts
The Whisperer is card number 10 in the deck and belongs to the Ferryman. Its Freezing Path spell has an attack power of 30 and costs 35 mana per cast.
| Field | Value |
|---|---|
| Character | Ferryman |
| Card number | 10 |
| Clues | 1 |
| Spell | |
| Attack power | 30 |
| Mana cost | 35 |
Finishing a Work of Mercy grants a blessing and unlocks a Gift that upgrades the spell. The Whisperer has two blessings and two Gifts.
- Work of Mercy: Defeat 25 enemies by freeing them from freeze.
- Work of Mercy: in 3 seconds, move through 5 enemies.
- Gift: a wave of frost bursts around Rose at the end of the spell, freezing enemies within 5 meters.
- Gift: passing through an enemy adds 10% speed, up to 5 times, triggering once per enemy.
If you are tracking your deck, The Whisperer sits among the mid-numbered cards alongside The Shadow (number 8, Death) and The Miser (number 9, Mammon), the boss you beat on the way to this very card. The table below lines them up so you can see where each falls.
| Arcana | Number | Character | Spell |
|---|---|---|---|
| 8 | Death | Soul Harvest | |
| 9 | Mammon | Wheel of Chaos | |
| 10 | Ferryman | Freezing Path | |
| 11 | Isaac | Chronomantic Dive |
The Ferryman does not disappear after the exchange. He turns up again in Notre-Dame, in the Temperance of Mary room, where he blesses Rose with the virtue of Temperance once she has proven it.
