Rose grows stronger in Castlevania: Belmont’s Curse by collecting two kinds of heart fragments scattered across hidden corners of the map. Brave Heart Fragments feed her maximum health, and Wise Heart Fragments feed her maximum mana. Both work the same way: gather four of a type to complete one full heart, and the game marks your progress with a banner each time you pick one up.
Quick answer: Four Brave Heart Fragments make a Brave Heart and raise Rose’s health; four Wise Heart Fragments make a Wise Heart and raise her mana. Fragments hide behind spikes, breakable walls, thorny growths, and as arena rewards.
How Brave Heart and Wise Heart Fragments work
Each fragment type collects in sets of four. A red banner counts Brave Heart progress and reads like “1/4 Brave Heart’s Fragments!”, stepping up to “2/4” and onward as you find more. When you grab the first one, a full-screen box explains the rule outright: “You’ve been blessed with a Brave Heart Fragment! Collect 4 Brave Heart Fragments to permanently increase Rose’s Health.” Close that box with Circle.
Once you hold four, the game announces “Brave Heart Completed!” and the counter resets to 1/4 so you can start the next set. Wise Heart Fragments follow the identical pattern with a teal banner, tracking the same x/4 count toward “Wise Heart Completed!”. Where Brave Hearts raise health, Wise Hearts raise maximum mana.
| Fragment | Raises | Count | Banner |
|---|---|---|---|
| Brave Heart | Maximum health | 4 fragments | Brave Heart Completed! |
| Wise Heart | Maximum mana | 4 fragments | Wise Heart Completed! |

Find the first Brave Heart Fragment inside Prison Tower, floating over an interior walkway. To reach it, grapple across the spikes with the Arcane Whip. Collecting it brings up the full-screen message, then the “1/4 Brave Heart’s Fragments!” banner.

The second fragment of that first set waits in Obituary of the Innocents, up on the upper platform between the statues, where the counter reads “2/4 Brave Heart’s Fragments!” After you complete a set, the next one begins again at 1/4. One such starting fragment hangs above a thorn-covered growth in the Library Foyer that you break to reach it.
In the Ancient Sewers, defeat all the arena waves to make a fragment appear on the upper-left platform; its counter shows 3/4. The “Brave Heart Completed!” banner may appear as soon as the last arena enemy is defeated, as happens in the Undercity.

Where to find Wise Heart Fragments
In the Street of the Tomb Masons, find the first Wise Heart Fragment in an upper alcove. Move the pushable block and attack the thorny growth blocking the way. The fragment looks like a glowing blue statue and requires INTERACT [R1]. After you pick it up, a teal banner appears, and a box explains that four Wise Heart Fragments form a Wise Heart, increasing mana.

Continue that set in the Cloister: a hooded shrine on the upper walkway yields the 2/4 fragment. Next, collect the 3/4 fragment from a glowing pedestal on an upper ledge in the Roman Baths. Once a set is complete, the count starts over at 1/4. Later sets begin in locations such as the Chamber of Whispers, Throat of Hell, West Tower Base, Rhetoric Shelves, Fine Arts Shelves, Apse, Chapel of Patience, and Clock Tower.
“Wise Heart Completed!” appears as a teal banner at the top right when a set is full. In the Torture Level, using INTERACT [R1] on a glowing altar triggers the banner. The same completion message turns up again at places like the Upper Gallery and the Hall of the Fallen Angels, where a gold banner above it reads “Upgrade your maximum health and mana 4/5 times each.”
Breaking thorny growths to reach fragments
Thorny, root-like growths block access to fragments in several alcoves, and attacks will break them. In the Street of the Tomb Masons, destroy the growth to uncover the fragment behind it. In the Library Foyer, hit the growth in an upper passage to reveal the fragment concealed there.
ATK UP is a separate pickup
Don’t confuse heart fragments with the attack boost. “ATK UP!” flashes as red text over Rose when she collects a book inside a hidden area. One sits in a lower hidden room in the Sewer Reservoir, beneath a breakable platform, with more found in Prison Tower and Obituary of the Innocents. These are their own reward and do not count toward either heart.
Whenever the completion banner flashes, you know the upgrade registered and the counter rolls back to 1/4 for the next set. Keep probing spikes, breakable walls, and thorn-choked alcoves, and clearing arena waves, and both of Rose’s bars will keep climbing as you explore.
