Chick-Chan is the level 15 plague boss that caps the Fate of the Prophets side quest in Windrose, waiting at the warlord's death site in the Cursed Swamps. The fight is a long attrition duel against a mud-and-plant abomination with a massive health pool, six destructible blisters, and a final death explosion that can wipe an unprepared player.

Before you engage
Chick-Chan is gated behind the three Stargazer observatory puzzles in the Cursed Swamps, so you cannot reach the death site until you have read all three Observatory Steles. The recommended level is 14–15, and the surrounding Tainted Forest area accelerates Wood Plague buildup. If that meter fills completely, your character dies instantly, which makes plague resistance more important than raw damage.
| Requirement | Detail |
|---|---|
| Character level | 14–15 minimum |
| Quest progress | All three Observatory Steles read |
| Gear tier | Level 15 weapons recommended |
| Consumables | Stack of healing potions |
| Plague defense | Sun Ring to slow Wood Plague buildup |
| Weapon mix | Ranged option (gun/bow) plus melee |
Bring a ranged weapon, even if you prefer melee. The blisters are easier to pop from distance, and a gun is the safest way to land the killing blow without eating the death explosion.

Finding the warlord's death site
After reading the third Stele, the quest marker points to a zone near the center of the island inside the Tainted Forest. There is no loot or interactable object at the marker itself. Chick-Chan, a named Plague Crusher, will be roaming the swamp around the area. Engaging it is the entire objective.
Chick-Chan attack patterns
Chick-Chan mixes ranged and melee pressure, which is why standing still is punished harder than in most fights at this level. Three attacks matter most.
| Attack | Tell | Counter |
|---|---|---|
| Ground slam | Boss winds up and plants its body | Sprint sideways; staying still causes a long stun |
| Thrown rocks | Pulls debris from its body | Dodge-roll perpendicular to the throw line |
| Melee swing | Close-range lunge | Disengage after landing hits; do not greed combos |
| Death AoE | Triggers when HP hits zero | Kill from range or at high HP to survive the blast |
How to break Chick-Chan's shields
The boss carries six shields tied to the glowing blisters scattered across its body. Shields reduce incoming damage until each corresponding blister is destroyed. Ranged attacks are the fastest way to burst blisters because you can target them safely while kiting.
Step 1: Open the fight at range and identify the closest glowing blister. Fire directly at it rather than the body, since hits on unshielded areas are heavily reduced.
Step 2: Destroy blisters one at a time while circling the arena. Use the open space to avoid ground slams between shots, and reposition whenever Chick-Chan winds up a rock throw.
Step 3: Once all six blisters are broken, the boss enters a posture break and is stunned. Close in and dump your heaviest melee damage during this window. It is the cleanest DPS opportunity in the fight.
Step 4: When the stun ends, disengage back to mid-range. Blisters can regenerate pressure between phases, so return to popping any remaining weak points before committing to melee again.

Surviving the death explosion
Chick-Chan releases a large area-of-effect blast the moment it dies. At low health, this explosion is often enough to kill the player outright, which is a common way to lose an otherwise clean run.
Wood Plague management
The Tainted Forest environment increases Wood Plague accumulation throughout the fight. Equipping a Sun Ring slows the buildup, which is important because the encounter runs long due to Chick-Chan's health pool. If the plague meter fills, the character dies instantly regardless of remaining HP, so treat plague resistance as a hard requirement rather than a preference.

Confirming the quest is complete
When Chick-Chan dies, and the AoE resolves, the Fate of the Prophets quest closes out automatically. The reward is 10 Tumbaga Ingots delivered on completion, a rare crafting material used for advanced gear upgrades and higher-tier weapons. Combined with the three Ancient Chests inside the Stargazer Towers, which each contain 3 Tumbaga Ingots, the full quest chain yields 19 ingots total if every chest is looted along the way.
If the quest does not advance after the kill, check that you read all three Observatory Steles before engaging. The boss can be found and fought before completing the observatories in some cases, but the quest will only resolve once the prerequisite story entries are in your log.
