Chiz is an S-rank Cosmos main DPS in Neverness to Everness, built around a self-contained resource loop called the Grain economy. She generates Grain through her staff combos and Brown Sugar Boba attacks, then converts those stacks into burst Cosmos damage through her Redirect Skill and Ultimate. Her ceiling is high, but she rewards players who time her rotations rather than mash buttons.

How the Grain economy works
Chiz's entire kit revolves around two combat resources: Grain and Grain Loan. Grain is generated by her basic attack chain, her Brown Sugar Boba throws, plunge attacks, and her Critical Riposte. Once Grain is available, she enters the Surplus state, which unlocks the bonus damage on her Redirect Skill stages.
When Chiz runs out of Grain, she shifts into the Debt state and starts pulling Grain Loans. Loans still let her deal damage through her skills, but they need to be repaid later, usually automatically when her Ultimate's Grain Market window ends. Her Ultimate, Zero-Sum Game, converts any outstanding Grain Loans back into Grain and sends everything into the Grain Market for 7 seconds.
Inside the Grain Market, prices fluctuate every half second within a -50% to +50% range. Pressing the Redirect Skill triggers a Grain Settlement at the current price, while holding it locks in a single settlement at the price showing on activation. The first Grain Settlement during the Ultimate is guaranteed to crit.
Skill breakdown
| Skill | Function |
|---|---|
| Exiled Swordplay (Basic) | Up to 5 staff hits dealing Cosmos DMG. Each hit grants Grain. |
| Blighted Vale / Barren | Throws Brown Sugar Boba for 2 instances of Cosmos DMG plus Grain and Fons. 2.5s cooldown. Holding during the basic chain spawns a branch attack. |
| Bountiful Grain | Airborne plunge attack. AoE Cosmos DMG scaling with fall height up to 200%, plus Grain. |
| Minsky Moment | Critical Riposte after a Critical Dodge. Cosmos DMG, reduces Break, grants Grain. |
| Pink Paws Priority Principle (Skill) | Stores up to 3 charges. Press chains No Grain โ Half Grain โ Full Grain. In Surplus, deals bonus Cosmos DMG scaling off current Grain. Cannot crit on the bonus damage. |
| Zero-Sum Game (Ultimate) | AoE Cosmos DMG, opens the Grain Market for 7s. Converts Grain Loans back to Grain. First Grain Settlement is a guaranteed crit. |
| Temporary Entry (Support) | Quick swap-in attack dealing 1 instance of Cosmos DMG. |
Skill priority should follow her Redirect Skill first, then her Ultimate, then her Basic Attack chain. The Support skill scales last because it acts mostly as a positional swap tool.

Best Arc for Chiz
Chiz wants Arcs that scale her Cosmos damage and reward the Fons and Crit Dodge mechanics already present in her kit. Two stand out as best-in-slot and a strong alternative.
| Arc | Tier | Effect |
|---|---|---|
| Contemplative Cat | S | +2.5% Cosmos DMG per 100,000 Fons held, up to 10 stacks (25% max). Pairs perfectly with her Fons-generating Boba throws. |
| Fluff of Finesse | S | +8% damage for 10s after a Critical Dodge, stacking up to 3 times. Refreshes on retrigger. |
| Cosmos Daze, Wild Reverie | A | Solid alternative for raw Cosmos scaling if you don't have the S-tier options. |
Contemplative Cat is the cleanest choice because Chiz naturally piles up Fons through Blighted Vale kills. Fluff of Finesse rewards aggressive Critical Dodge play, which also feeds Minsky Moment and more Grain.
Best Console set
Lost Radiance is the recommended Console set. The 2-piece bonus stacks flat Cosmos DMG, and the 4-piece amplifies her burst window after Zero-Sum Game.
| Set | Bonus |
|---|---|
| Lost Radiance (2-pc, Epic) | +10% Cosmos DMG. |
| Lost Radiance (4-pc, Legendary) | Ignores 25% of enemy DEF for 20s after the wearer casts their Ultimate. Does not stack. |
Stat priority: Cosmos DMG% > Crit Rate / Crit DMG > ATK%. Aim for a roughly 1:2 Crit Rate to Crit DMG ratio, since her Ultimate's first Settlement is a guaranteed crit and most of her damage windows live inside crit-able instances rather than the Surplus bonus damage.
Best team comps
Charge team: Chiz, Hathor, Zero, Jiuyuan
This is her strongest setup. Two Cosmos units (Chiz and Hathor) plus Jiuyuan trigger the Charge Esper Cycle, which grants 10 Ultimate energy on activation. That extra energy directly offsets the downside of Chiz's Hoarding passive, since the team mostly fuels Ultimates through reactions rather than Charge generation.
Hathor handles quick Sub-DPS rotations and helps activate Charge. Zero accelerates Esper Cycle reactions and provides minor healing. Jiuyuan adds crowd control and Anima damage to round out the rotation.
Blossom team: Chiz, Mint, Zero, Jiuyuan
If you don't have Hathor, this comp leans on Blossom reactions instead. Mint extends Lebenblume uptime to 6 simultaneous flowers, increasing AoE coverage. Damage is spread across the team rather than concentrated on Chiz, which makes it more forgiving but lower ceiling.
Alternative: Chiz, Haniel, Adler, Mint
A buffer-heavy backup option. Haniel layers offensive buffs while Adler provides shields, letting Chiz stay on-field longer to manage her Grain rotation without worrying about survivability.
Awakening priorities
| Node | Effect |
|---|---|
| A1 โ Sun, Sunโฆ speak to me! | Increases Grain and Grain Loan storage limit. |
| A2 โ Fireworks in Silence | +10% of current Grain as interest per second while in Surplus. |
| A3 โ If There Were No Rainy Days | +50% chance of Grain Price increases in the Grain Market. |
| A4 โ To Riceball, Bandage, Fons | +20% Grain acquisition efficiency. |
| A5 โ Blank Diary Pages | Grants Grain equal to 100% of storage on entering combat. |
| A6 โ Thirty-Three Days | Increases Grain's bonus Cosmos DMG. |
| R1 โ Friends and Family (3-Awakening) | +50% Grain acquisition efficiency while in Debt. |
| R2 โ Homecoming (6-Awakening) | -10% Cosmos Resistance on the target when Chiz deals damage. |
A1 is the highest-impact early node because it raises both her Grain ceiling and her Grain Loan ceiling, which directly scales her burst output. A5 is the next big breakpoint, since starting fights with full Grain skips the ramp-up entirely.
Rotation tips
Step 1: Open with the basic attack chain into a held Blighted Vale to stack Grain quickly while building Ultimate energy. Aim for Critical Dodges on telegraphed enemy attacks to trigger Minsky Moment for extra Grain and Break reduction.
Step 2: Once you hit Surplus with a healthy Grain pool, press Redirect Skill three times to chain No Grain โ Half Grain โ Full Grain. Hold instead if you want to dump all Grain at once and reset the loop faster.
Step 3: Cast Zero-Sum Game when you have outstanding Grain Loans or a stockpile of Grain. The first Settlement is a guaranteed crit, so press Redirect Skill on a high Grain Price tick to maximize damage. Hold Redirect Skill to lock in a strong price if the chart is trending favorably.
Step 4: When the Grain Market expires, Chiz auto-repays her Grain Loans. Swap out to a teammate to let them rebuild their Ultimate energy under the Charge or Blossom reaction, then cycle Chiz back in once she has full charges again.
Should you build her?
Chiz is not the absolute top of the Neverness to Everness DPS ladder, but she is a high-skill carry who can run early-game and mid-game content with relatively low investment. Her Grain economy is satisfying once it clicks, and her damage ceiling rewards players who learn to read the Grain Price chart during her Ultimate. If rhythm-based resource management appeals to you, she is worth the build time.
