Crimson Desert gives you horses, dragons, mechs, and wall-climbing to get around the continent of Pywel — but the Kuku Rocket Pack might be the most satisfying traversal tool in the game. It’s essentially a jetpack that lets Oongka achieve vertical flight, reach floating islands, and bypass the towering cliffs of Pailune. The catch? You can permanently miss it if you push too far through the main story without completing a specific quest chain.
Quick answer: Reach Chapter 8, unlock Pailune as a hub city, complete the Sanctum of Penitence to get Blueprint I (Kuku Pack), then find Grimnir’s assistant on the south side of Pailune and examine his letter to unlock Blueprint II (Kuku Rocket Pack). Craft both items at the Kilnden Workshop.

Prerequisites — Chapter 8 and Pailune
You cannot begin the jetpack quest chain until you reach Chapter 8 of the main story. At that point, Pailune becomes a fully functional hub city populated with merchants, NPCs, and faction quests. Two specific quest lines need your attention before the rocket pack can be assembled.
The first is the Witch of Wisdom Faction Quest, which includes the Sanctum of Penitence dungeon. The second is the Fire Breathing Pack faction quest, which becomes available once Pailune is up and running. Both feed into the crafting pipeline for the jetpack, and skipping either one locks you out entirely.

Add to Google Preferences →Craft the Base Kuku Pack (Blueprint I)
The Kuku Rocket Pack is an upgrade, not a standalone item. You need the base Kuku Pack first, and that blueprint comes from completing the Sanctum of Penitence.

| Material | Quantity |
|---|---|
| Peddler’s Pack | 1 |
| Kuku Pot | 1 |
Unlock Blueprint II — The Kuku Rocket Pack
With the base Kuku Pack crafted, you can now pursue the upgraded rocket version. This requires a separate blueprint that many players overlook because it involves an easy-to-miss interaction in Pailune.

Craft the Kuku Rocket Pack
Return to the Kilnden Workshop and speak to Grimnir at the Mysterious Iron Pot. You’ll need the base Kuku Pack plus several additional components to complete the assembly.
| Material | Quantity | How to Obtain |
|---|---|---|
| Kuku Pack | 1 | Crafted at Kilnden Workshop (see above) |
| Iron Ore | 10 | Mine ore deposits or buy from equipment shops and street vendors |
| Copper Ore | 5 | Mine ore deposits or buy from equipment shops and street vendors |
| Cogwheel | 5 | Loot from Abyss enemies, regional treasure chests, or traveling merchants |
| Small Battery | 3 | Defeat Pirates in Demeniss or break environmental objects |
None of these materials is particularly rare. Iron Ore and Copper Ore are widely available from both mining nodes and shops. Cogwheels and Small Batteries take a bit more effort — Abyss enemies are the most reliable source for Cogwheels, while the Pirates in Demeniss tend to drop Small Batteries consistently.
Once you hand everything over to Grimnir, the Kuku Rocket Pack is yours.

Equipping and Flying the Kuku Rocket Pack
The jetpack is exclusive to Oongka. It serves as his equivalent of Kliff’s innate gliding ability, but with vertical thrust instead of horizontal glide. It cannot be used by Kliff or other characters.

Extending Flight Time With Abyss Artifacts
Since the Kuku Rocket Pack runs entirely on stamina, the only way to stay airborne longer is to expand your total stamina pool. Abyss Artifacts are the mechanism for this. Collecting them permanently increases your maximum stamina, which directly translates to longer flight duration. If you plan to use the jetpack for serious exploration — especially over water or between distant floating islands — prioritize gathering Abyss Artifacts before attempting long flights.
The Kuku Rocket Pack is one of Crimson Desert’s most rewarding unlocks, but its missable nature and multi-step crafting chain mean plenty of players will fly right past it — figuratively, not literally. Tackle the Sanctum of Penitence and Grimnir’s quest line as soon as Chapter 8 opens up, and you’ll have Oongka soaring over Pailune’s cliffs well before the story pushes you past the point of no return. Just watch your stamina before launching over open ocean.
