Diablo 4 Season 15 Patch Notes: Update 3.2.1 Class and Loot Changes

How update 3.2.1 reshapes core stat scaling, class power, loot drops, and crafting costs for the Season of Hell’s Legacy.

Update 3.2.1 brings the Season of Hell’s Legacy to Diablo 4, the 30th anniversary season built around the power of the three Prime Evils and the Soul Splinter gems earned in Waking Nightmare dungeons. The season goes live September 15 at 10:00 a.m. PDT, and the same patch carries a wide class balance reshuffle alongside changes to loot drops, crafting costs, and endgame rewards.

Quick answer: Update 3.2.1 cuts Barbarian’s Strength scaling to 0.8, raises Druid, Necromancer, Paladin, and Sorcerer to 1.625, ends Barbarian’s spell atop the meta, and adds broad loot and crafting buffs.

Core stat scaling changes drive the balance shift

The single biggest lever in this patch is the core stat scalar, which controls how much damage each class gains from its primary attribute. Barbarian drops sharply, while four other classes rise by roughly 30 percent. This baseline change affects almost every build without touching individual skills.

ClassCore stat scalarDamage per 10 points
Barbarian1.1 → 0.8Strength 1.1% → 0.8%
Druid1.25 → 1.625Willpower 1.25% → 1.625%
Necromancer1.25 → 1.625Intelligence 1.25% → 1.625%
Paladin1.25 → 1.625Strength 1.25% → 1.625%
Sorcerer1.25 → 1.625Intelligence 1.25% → 1.625%

Spiritborn does not receive a core stat increase in this patch, and instead gets targeted buffs to skills, Paragon boards, and unique weapons. Warlock and Rogue keep their existing scaling and rely on skill and item tuning.

Barbarian steps down from the top

After several strong seasons, Barbarian takes an overall nerf. Beyond the Strength scaling cut, Disembowel and Crusher glyphs, several legendary Paragon nodes, and Two-Handed Sword Expertise all lose damage. Ramaladni’s Magnum Opus now drains 7% of Maximum Fury instead of a flat 10 Fury per second, and only while in combat, which helps resource uptime while traveling.

Necromancer gains the most support

Necromancer receives a long list of buffs aimed at builds outside Blood Wave and Bone Spirit. Corpse Explosion damage jumps from 110% to 180%, Bone Spear rises from 130% to 160%, and Soulrift gains damage plus a cooldown cut from 50 to 40 seconds. Army of the Dead now stacks up to five times when recast while active, and Rathma’s Waking Touch shifts toward broader Summoning support.

Paladin and Spiritborn get catch-up buffs

Paladin’s Judgement now scales with the rank of the skill that applied it, opening a new damage path for Judgement builds. Divine Lance, Zeal, and Shield Bash all gain damage, and several Oaths increase from 80% to 100%. Spiritborn loses two oversized interactions, the Tzic Rune bug and Aspect of Supremacy stacks, but is compensated with buffs to Core skills, Potency skills, Paragon boards, and unique weapons.

Warlock stays on top with trimmed peaks

Warlock keeps its lead while a few extreme scalars are cut. Power is spread out of Demonform through the Dynamism node, which now grants 85% increased Summon Skill damage outside Demonform but lowers damage per Dominance inside it. Several attacks gain new tags, so Bombardment becomes a Summon Skill, Dread Claws becomes a Greater Demon Skill, and Hellion Sting gains the Lesser Demon tag.

Loot and item changes

  • Legendary item drop rates increase in Torment I through Torment V; Torment VI and above are unchanged.
  • All Unique items can now drop at level 1 and in any difficulty.
  • Mythic Unique drop rates rise from Initiate and Greater Lair Bosses, Belial, and random sources.
  • Echo of Mephisto now has higher overall loot quality with a guaranteed Mythic drop.
  • Single Resistance affixes are now worth 7 times the value of All Resistance affixes.

The goal behind higher early Legendary rates is to reduce reliance on upgrading random Legendary items through the Horadric Cube to complete the Codex of Power. Mythic Uniques from Lair Bosses and Belial’s Hoard now pull from that boss’s specific pool, though generic loot still leaves a small chance for anything else.

Individual items shift as well. Banished Lord’s Talisman now makes consuming Overpower increase Critical Strike damage by 130-150% for 8 seconds, and it can no longer be used by Paladin, Spiritborn, or Warlock. Razorplate raises its Thorns proc chance from 10% to 30%, while Tibault’s Will drops Resource Regeneration from 50% to 25%.

Crafting cost reductions

Several crafting recipes cost far less material after this patch, which lowers the grind for gems and enchanting.

Craft Grand Gems300 Forgotten Souls50 Forgotten Souls
Enchant Ancestral Items25 Forgotten Souls10 Forgotten Souls
Random Magic Tribute200 Sigil Powder100 Sigil Powder
Infernal Horde Compass666 Sigil Powder500 Sigil Powder

Horadric Cube material drops are also retuned. Pure Primordial Dust becomes less weighted overall because baseline Legendary drops are higher, while Refined, Volatile, Pure, Enhanced, and Attuned Primordial Dust become more common as difficulty rises.

Experience and reward boosts across endgame

Higher Torment tiers now grant more bonus experience, and reward-heavy activities pay out more gold, gems, and materials.

Torment X bonus XP1200%1300%
Torment XI bonus XP1300%1500%
Torment XII bonus XP1400%1700%
Pit Tier 150 bonus XP1800%2700%
Whispers gold at Torment XII~35 million~100 million

War Plans experience now scales heavily with Torment, and completing any node at Torment X and above grants 4 Experience Orbs instead of 2. Whisper Caches drop more Experience Orbs, gem fragments, and salvage materials, and now include a Royal or Grand Gem depending on difficulty. Expert and Penitent difficulties unlock after finishing the Prologue rather than the full campaign.

Elite enemies in Torment X and above now drop far more Gem Fragments and have a higher chance to drop a random Royal Gem, so higher difficulty farming pays off more for gem crafting.

How to get update 3.2.1

Update 3.2.1 installs automatically through the Battle.net launcher and the console store patch process. When the download finishes and the game shows the current build, the Season of Hell’s Legacy will be selectable at character creation once the season opens at 10:00 a.m. PDT on September 15. You will know the patch applied when the seasonal season screen appears and Soul Splinters become available through Waking Nightmare content.

Because build power now leans heavily on the reworked core stat scaling and the new seasonal Soul Splinters, many characters will feel different even before gear changes. Barbarian mains lose raw scaling but gain it back through seasonal power, while Necromancer, Paladin, and the buffed casters have more room to experiment with skills that were previously left behind.
