Dinosaur Life: How to Hunt as the Deinosuchus in Roblox

Ambush tactics, grab attacks, growth stats, and how spawn protection and Buy Back Growth work for the giant croc.

Ambush tactics, grab attacks, growth stats, and how spawn protection and Buy Back Growth work for the giant croc.

The Deinosuchus is the crocodilian playable in Dinosaur Life, a survival sim from NOYO Productions where every creature is controlled by another player. It is built around one idea: everything on land eventually needs to drink, and the water is your territory. A fully grown adult can pull a Carnotaurus, a T. rex, or a pterosaur off the bank and finish the fight before the victim ever gets a clean hit in.

Quick answer: Float in shallow water near a shoreline, wait for a land dinosaur to step up to the edge, then use the grab attack to drag it into deep water where it cannot fight back properly.

Why the Deinosuchus is strongest at the water’s edge

The croc’s whole kit is tuned for the boundary between land and water. In the water it swims quickly, stays mostly hidden below the surface, and can close on a target before it reacts. On land it is slower and more exposed, and long fights there drain its energy fast. The practical result is a narrow but very reliable hunting zone.

  • Shorelines and river mouths are where prey stops moving to drink.
  • Submerged approaches hide you until you are already in bite range.
  • Dragged prey loses most of its ability to counterattack in deep water.
  • Shallow ponds are safer hunting spots than open lakes, which belong to Mosasaurus.
  • Resting on land or in calm water restores energy and health between fights.

The Nesting Grounds is the most productive area to work, simply because it has the heaviest traffic of small and mid-size dinosaurs moving between the treeline and the lake.

How to ambush and grab prey from the shoreline

Enter the water near a bank where other players are gathering, and stay in the shallows rather than swimming out. Keep your body submerged so only a small part of you breaks the surface.

Pick a single target that is drinking or standing still at the edge. Smaller carnivores such as Carnotaurus, juvenile T. rex, and grounded pterosaurs are the cleanest kills.
Close the gap underwater and trigger the grab attack, which is the special move bound to the F key on PC and the large claw button on touch controls. A successful grab locks the target in your jaws.
Back straight into deeper water while still holding the prey. The dinosaur loses its footing and most of its offensive options, and your bite damage does the rest.
Feed on the carcass to top up hunger, then retreat to shallow water and rest before repeating. Carcasses can also be dragged, so you can move a kill somewhere safer if larger predators are circling.

The grab also works on pterosaurs flying low over the water, so keep an eye on the sky when the shoreline goes quiet.

Deinosuchus growth stats and what each stage gives you

The croc is a carnivore that starts at 0% growth and gains health and damage as it eats. Growth also runs on a timer that ticks down as you play, shown in the Growth menu alongside your current stats.

58%1,1685136
62%1,2005237
65%1,232
86%1,4556445

Below roughly 25% growth you are prey, not a predator. Baby crocs get picked off by Pteranodon on land and by anything larger in the water, so the early game is about hiding in the lake, eating from carcasses, and letting friendly players screen you. Past 50% you can start winning one-on-one shoreline fights outright, and at full growth an adult can beat a Spinosaurus or a T. rex in the water.

Underwater, watch the oxygen bubble indicator. You can stay submerged for a long stretch, but you still have to surface, and doing that in the middle of an open lake is how most crocs die.

Spawn protection: why some targets take no damage

Freshly spawned dinosaurs are temporarily immune to attacks. If you bite something and its health bar does not move, it is under spawn protection, and you are wasting energy while advertising your position to everything nearby.

There are two sensible responses. Against a small dinosaur, hold position a short distance away and wait for the protection to lapse, then grab it before it wanders off. Against a protected T. rex or another large carnivore, back into the water and find a different target — you cannot hurt it, but it can commit to a fight the moment its protection ends.

What actually kills a Deinosuchus

Mosasaurus in deep water

The Mosasaurus is the apex predator of the open lake and will kill a full-grown croc in deep water. It breaches, it patrols the middle of large bodies of water, and it wins the straight fight. Stay in the shallows and along the banks. A beached or badly damaged Mosasaurus near the shore is a different story and can be eaten.

Spinosaurus and T. rex on land

Both are beatable in water and dangerous on land. A land Spinosaurus in particular will run down a croc caught away from a river. If a fight starts on dry ground, disengage toward water instead of trading hits, and use short rests to recover energy when the enemy breaks off.

Raptor packs and terrain traps

Velociraptors hunt in groups and can swarm a mid-growth croc at a watering hole before it reaches deeper water. Terrain is also a real threat: the steaming crater pools around Smoketip Peak deal damage over time, and it is possible to get stuck in the pit and die there. Weather adds another layer, since thunderstorms and heavy rain roll in and cut visibility along the banks.

Buy Back Growth after you die

Death is not a full reset. When you are killed, the game offers Buy Back Growth, which restores your previous growth percentage for a coin fee instead of making you regrow from scratch. A typical prompt costs 1,200 coins to return to 28% growth, and the screen shows how much time the buy-back saves you.

Discounted offers appear as well, marked as 25% Cheaper or 30% Cheaper on the buy-back panel. You know it worked when you respawn with the listed growth percentage already applied and your health and attack values match that stage in the Growth menu.

Buy-backs are the main reason to keep a coin balance. Liking the experience and joining the group grants 500 coins plus a 10% coin multiplier, and Roblox Premium members earn 15% more coins, with multipliers stacking.

Codes pay out coins directly, which is the fastest way to bankroll growth restores early on. Open the main menu, press the CODES button, type the code into the “Enter code…” box exactly as written, and press Enter. Codes are case sensitive.

A code that has expired will not redeem, and older ones such as SPINO, PACHY, and LONG_NECK no longer work.

Small habits that keep an adult croc alive

  • Ignore Brachiosaurus. It is too large to grab and the fight is not worth the energy.
  • Break off and rest mid-fight rather than fighting to zero energy on land.
  • Team with another Deinosuchus when one is nearby; paired crocs clear shorelines quickly.
  • Use the emote wheel — Friendly Growl, Angry Growl, Threaten — to signal intent to other players.
  • Feed on carcasses left by other predators instead of starting fresh fights when hunger is low.

Played patiently, the croc is one of the most consistent predators in the game, because it never has to chase anything. Hold the water line, wait for the shoreline to get busy, and let the map bring dinner to you.
