The best friend glow is a daily buff in Disney Dreamlight Valley that turns any level 10 villager into a walking power boost. When it is active, that villager grants every profession bonus at once and lets you sprint without draining energy. It arrived with the Pixel Perfect update on July 29, 2026, and it only works with characters you have already maxed out to Friendship Level 10.
Quick answer: Reach Friendship Level 10 with a villager, then fill their best friend bar that day by chatting, gifting favorites, serving them at the restaurant, and hanging out. Once the bar is full, the glow activates automatically while you hang out with them.
Requirement: Friendship Level 10 and the gold heart bar
The glow is tied to the highest friendship tier. A villager becomes eligible the moment they reach Friendship Level 10, and you can confirm this by interacting with them. Their normal Friendship Star changes into a glowing gold heart bar over their head, which is the sign that the best friend system is now available for that character.
Any villager already sitting at level 10 before the update went live was ready for this feature the moment it turned on. If a character has not reached level 10 yet, keep raising their friendship through daily talks, gifts, and shared activities until the gold heart bar appears.

Filling the bar works the same way as normal friendship progress. You earn points by spending time with the villager and doing the things you already do around the valley. The bar resets every day at 5:00 AM local time, so each morning you get a fresh chance to charge it back up.
| Action | What to do |
|---|---|
| Chat | Talk to the villager once each day. |
| Gift | Give them one of their favorite gifts of the day. |
| Restaurant | Serve them a meal at the restaurant. |
| Hang out | Ask them to hang out and keep them with you around the valley. |
Once the bar reaches full, that villager is ready to become your best friend for the day and the glow kicks in while you are hanging out together.
What the best friend glow gives you
The glow is a powered-up state that only counts while you have the active villager hanging out with you. It stacks three benefits together, which is what makes it worth setting up each day.
- Best Friends Sprint. You can keep sprinting for as long as the glow lasts, without eating meals to refill energy. Getting across the valley becomes much faster.
- Max-level profession bonuses for all roles. The villager grants bonuses for every profession, not just their assigned role. If Merlin is set as a mining specialist, an active glow lets him find extra rewards across mining, digging, fishing, foraging, gardening, Timebending, and catching Snippets. He returns to his normal role once the glow ends.
- A heart icon above your best friend. A special bar sits over their head so you can track how much of the glow is left before it runs out.

How long the glow lasts
The glow does not run on a timer. Instead it lasts for a limited number of gameplay activities, so its length depends entirely on how you spend it. It will not decay while you stand still, and it stays with you until you have used it up.
Using Best Friends Sprint draws from the same pool, so heavy sprinting eats into the glow faster. Watch the bar over your best friend’s head to judge how many more actions you can squeeze out of it.
Note: Each villager’s glow can only be triggered once per day. Plan the mining, gardening, fishing, or Timebending session you most want the bonus for, since you cannot re-activate the same villager until the next reset.
Fast travel to a best friend
Reaching Friendship Level 10 also unlocks direct fast travel from the Map. Select an eligible villager and choose Travel to appear right at their location. If they are inside a building, you land just outside it, which makes it quick to reach them before you start charging the glow.
Item Assist and gathering help
Separate from the glow, best friends can gather materials for you through Item Assist, which unlocks earlier at Friendship Level 7. Pick one item tied to the villager’s role and they spend the day collecting more of it. Item Assist can pull in rare items such as Shiny Gems, but it cannot grab event-exclusive or quest-exclusive items. Return the next day to collect what they brought back.
Between the daily glow, the all-role bonuses, and Item Assist running in the background, a maxed-out villager becomes one of the fastest ways to stock up on resources. Keep a rotation of level 10 friends going and you will always have a fresh glow ready for whatever task you tackle that day.
